Food recommendations

Hello I will be travelling to Dundee in the near future and want to hear what the food is like?

A quick Google search tells me what is there but I'm after local opinions.

I'm not fussy at all so all recommendations are welcome.

Should also say I'm looking for recommendations close to the centre.

TIA

Theft help

I've recently been a victim of a locker break in at the nethergate Puregym and the thief has made off with two bags containing some really high value electronics including a laptop.

So far a police report has been made and the gym staff have been notified, but consensus online tells me that the police don't seem to have the best track record.

Any advice for dealing with this situation? As a student who relies on said laptop for uni work, I can't really rely on just waiting, praying and hoping. Something like a neighbourhood watch maybe? Or some way to get into contact with pawn shops in case the thief tries to sell off my things.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Lochee multis.

Got offered a 2 bed flat at the top floor of one of the lochee multis. Ive heard some unsavoury things, addicts and what not, but ive grown up around that sort of stuff and dont exactly mind living in a rough area. Anyone thats lived in or around them able to tell me what to expect? I intend on keeping to myself. Im being evicted, so my options are very limited.

Too good to go Dundee

I’ve had the Too Good To Go app on my phone for a while. I’ve used it a few times for Greggs, Baynes etc.
How many other people on here use it? Has anyone ever used it for places like Taza etc?

Things to do solo?

I recently just got out of a long term relationship and now I struggle to find things to do by myself in Dundee.

I moved here from Arbroath 3 years ago to be with her and she was pretty much my only friend in this city. Now she’s no longer in my life, I’ve no idea how to spend my days when I’m not working. I end up just staying in doors playing games.

Are there any decent places to go by yourself in Dundee? Either to meet new people or just enjoy your own company?

I live city centre so I can get to anywhere easily

Hiking destinations via train?

I don’t have a car but would absolutely love to hike some of Scotland. Is this possible through trains? Are there any feasible days trips from Dundee?

Did JD Gyms bring back the wipes dispenser?

Hello! I left JD Gyms a while back because they didn't have any wipes available for the equipment for months and months, despite complaints. They were meant to come back, but never did before I left. It just felt very unhygienic, and it's annoying to have to bring your own.

Did they finally bring them back? Despite this, it's the most convenient gym for me, so I'm considering going back.

Dundee in 1984, look at those blue Volvo buses!

Found this great photo of Samuel's Corner from back in the day. The city feels so different now, but I still catch myself looking for that clock whenever I’m walking past. What’s the one thing in this photo you wish was still around today?

Looking for job-related course suggestions in Dundee

Hi everyone,

I’m a student in Dundee and looking for a job-related course that could help me find work in the future. Can anyone suggest any good agencies, colleges, or training centres in Dundee that offer useful courses and also help with jobs?

I’m especially looking for places that provide:

CV/interview support

Help finding part-time or full-time jobs

Placement or job support after completing the course

Since I’m a student, I’d prefer something budget-friendly or affordable 😊

Also, which courses are currently in demand around Dundee and better for getting jobs? Any advice or personal experience would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

What’s happening in Dundee?

Just curious if the council have got any actual plans to improve and support literally anyone outside of the town centre. I’ve been reading about how the council have had an awful backlog for repairs in council housing etc, it just doesn’t add up or I’m missing something. They’ve stripped up that walk way/road in town which had flower planters and was painted colourfully :/ why?

The investment into the waterfront has brought lots of visitors, but is that money really going back into the residents of Dundee? What’s been happening here?

What do people want to see and have in the communities outside of the town? What do people really think? What good changes have been made over the past few years?

I’d love to learn and know more about what’s happening! I’m not great with the internet, so I’d love to hear from actual people!

Councils have been sending out polling cards stating you need photo ID. This is wrong. It's Westminster general elections only.

Go and vote. You don't need a polling card either as long as you're registered to vote.

Hi everyone,

I’m 22 (M) student and have just finished university (graduating next month!). I’m currently looking for pretty much any kind of work and wanted to ask if anyone knows of places hiring in Dundee or any places that can help me with finding employment.

I’ve been applying consistently for the last 6 months and while I did recently get a zero-hour contract job, I still haven’t been given my first training shift. I’m worried it could still be quite a while before I properly start, and even then I’m not sure how many hours I’ll actually get. Money is getting tight and I’m honestly at the point where I’m really worried I’ll have to move back and live with my parents because I can’t afford to stay here.

I have experience working in hospitality including serving coffee, alcohol, and waiting tables, but I’m very open to trying something new as well. I learn quickly and I’m very flexible with hours now that university is over.

I’ve mainly been searching online, but honestly it’s been mentally exhausting. A lot of listings seem to require qualifications, a driving licence, or experience I don’t have, and the jobs I do meet the criteria for rarely get back to me. I’ve also been applying directly through company websites, but it’s mostly been the same radio silence.
Every couple of weeks I’ve been going into local shops, bars, and cafés to hand in my CV in person as well, but even when places say they’re “looking to hire loads of new staff”, it still just seems to lead nowhere.

If anyone has any advice, recommendations, or knows of anywhere hiring, I’d really appreciate it. I’d thought about posting on this subreddit before, but at the time it felt a bit silly. At this point though, I’m open to any sort of help I can get.

Thank you for reading!

Moving House

I'm just looking for a bit of advice. My wife and I are thinking about moving over the bridge to Dundee, as we already spend most of our time there anyway.

We’re looking for recommendations on good, quiet areas to live in, as well as any areas that might be best avoided. Ideally, we’d like somewhere safe, well-kept, and family-friendly where we could settle down and raise a family in the future.

We’d prefer to avoid areas with high levels of crime or antisocial behaviour.

Any advice or personal experiences would be really appreciated

Thanks in advance!
