Advice on how to get professors to respond to PhD proposal?

My husband is looking to get his PhD in Ireland (we’re in the US), and we’ve been learning about the differences between PhD programs in Ireland vs. the US, and how in Ireland you find a professor to work with before you even apply to the Uni.

My husband has started to reach out to a couple professors at Dublin City University with his proposed PhD project and asking them if they’re currently supervising PhD students (sorry if I’m getting any of the terminology wrong), but he hasn’t gotten any responses. We have read somewhere that this is common, but…is it? Does anyone have any advice on how to increase his chances of getting a response?

Whats DCUs Joints Honours (Law) like?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a 6th year considering applying to DCU and I’m really interested in DC292, otherwise Joint Honours (Law). I was hoping to hear from anyone who’s doing it (or has done it) to get a better idea of what it’s actually like.

A few things I’m wondering about:

- What’s the workload like?

- What kind of work do you do (e.g. essays, exams, presentations, group work)?

- How practical is the course? Is it mostly theory or do you get chances to apply what you learn?

- How does it compare to single honours law, if anyone knows?

I’m also trying to figure out which discipline would be best to pair with law, as I consider myself a creative person and would not like to get stuck with something that is boring. I’m open to anything but especially interested in options that would be fun and practical or that balance well workload-wise.

Also, I don't know much about DCUs student life and I want to know if:

- There is a good balance between study and social life?

- Are there many clubs/societies worth joining?

- What’s the overall vibe like?

Any advice or personal experiences would be really appreciated.
