Champagne Tiger Drag Brunch - bar seating ok?

Curious if it sucks to sit at the bar if all the performing is behind you? Anyone done it, is it awkward? Maybe made worse if our group is 5?

Thanks!

Capital Grill was a bit disappointing this time

I'm not one of those who automatically turns my nose up at chain restaurants. In fact, say what you will, but I've always enjoyed dining at places like Capital Grill and Del Frisco's. In fact, I prefer them to my one and only encounter at A5, which I found to be overpriced and failing to live up to its reputation. Capital Grill has been on the rotation of restaurants I visit when attending shows at DCPA. FWIW my usual pre-DCPA restaurants are Edge, Corinne, Capital Grill, Ocean Prime, Rioja, D'Corazon & Water Grill. Oh, and occasionally Sams.

I hadn't been to Capital Grill for around one year. This visit is making me wonder if they are starting to lose their way - perhaps succumbing to pressure to cut costs. First world problems for sure, but the first thing I noticed when they delivered the bread was, no butter knives. Not just missing from our table - no butter knives on anyone's table. Really? Having to use the large knife to spread butter and then balance it on the small bread plate was plain awkward and not what I expect at a higher-end restaurant. Is this becoming common? If so, I haven't noticed it before.

The second thing that disappointed was the shrinking portion of French onion soup. It now comes in a rather plain white, small soup cup, like you'd expect to see at a dinner. I might overlook it if they had also adjusted the price, but that's not today's world. Actually, I wouldn't overlook it. French onion soup is supposed to be a feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds.

As I said, first-world problems, but I hate to see a restaurant I've enjoyed in the past start to decline - especially when I'm spending $360 for the two of us. It always starts with the little things.

Need help with place downtown

Hey everyone, I’m heading to Denver this weekend (downtown) with my wife and could use some recommendations for a good dinner spot. Looking for something a bit on the nicer side (date night vibes), but not super upscale where the menu is tiny or overly limited.

My wife really likes having a solid amount of options to choose from, so places with a bigger menu or a good variety would be ideal. Open to pretty much any type of food—just want somewhere with great atmosphere and quality.

Appreciate any suggestions!

Did shrinkflation finally get Peter's Chinese?

Went last night since maybe not having them for 6-8 months. I know I've had it two or three times since the employee ownership.

Portions seemed way down. Way less meat. Way more vegetable. No more long tray with clear top, the entree now comes in a quart box that seems to hold less than the trays did. Dinner also seemed a dollar or two more expensive, but what isn't from 6 months ago?

And even the food itself seemed to have gone a step down. Fried rice wasn't truly fried whereas it had been before. The egg drop soup literally had one or two bites of egg in the whole thing. Only one of my three sauces seemed to actually get properly reduced in the wok. The mongolian beef was literally a quart box with mostly vegetables. The vegetables for both entrees weren't even lightly cooked. Mine were a bunch of pithy pepper pieces! Yum.

Absolutely felt robbed when after the meal me nor the wife didn't have the usual easy meal or more of leftover entree AND we were still kinda hungry!!!

Don't think I'm dropping nearly $60 for mediocre takeout for 2 anymore. Back to great wall or new china for me and the family. First the pandemic kills little dragon's quality now inflation kills Peter's??? GRRRRRRRR

Update re: Opening a new burger kitchen in Berkeley

We are Flip and Howl Burger Kitchen at Little Wolf on 44th and Lowell. I just want to thank everyone for chiming in and helping me with the menu and concept. We understand and appreciate that not everyone has the same idea of the best burger. We did however listen to what you had to say and took it to heart. My name is Chris and I am the "chef" here. If we had an exchange I would love to meet you in person and talk about our ideas. We have an opening menu but I would love to dial it in with the community. Again, thank you so much for the support and suggestions.

Question about Kizaki counter

My wife and I are looking to book Kizaki and to book the counter. We are flexible on dates. But on Opentable, for "counter" you can only book this as an individual. However I have seen on reddit that couples HAVE sat at the bar together. I am confused. Any advice? We would prefer the bar experience and are curious how others did this.

Magna Kainan

Lived above the restaurant for about a year and finally decided to give it a try!

Skewers were flavorful and juicy.

Lumpia was flavorful & crunchy definitely was a highlight.

Chicken was very salty and not flavorful at the same time... kinda disappointing & sides were plain.

Everything was fresh though & staff were super kind, atmosphere was fun and chill so it was nice experience!

Overall, was a cute moment but over priced tbh and then they add a 20% fee which is "not a tip" lmao so kinda not worth it to me.

Could be cute for happy hour, but personally wouldn't run to go back 🫠

7/10 🤏🏽

Anybody else get overcharged by the F1 bar?

Went last night and my charge for the sim racing plus food is on my card along with a random $56.16 charge from them. I caught it last night before I even left the bar and they assured me it was just a pre authorization for the initial tab and then it charges the full amount when you close out. Even though the start to my order (what prompted the tab to open) was 2 drinks totaling $16. I have the receipts for my night and there is no combination of items that ends up even close to $56.

Well the charge dropped off last night like I was told it would. Just the $56.16 dropped off.

Then I woke up this morning to it being charged to my card AGAIN. It’s still pending but if it came back I don’t think it’s going to drop off again.

This is insanely frustrating. I’m struggling to make ends meet and saved up enough to have a fun night out. I wasn’t able to buy food until late last night when the charge “dropped off” around 11:30pm as it made my account go negative and now I’m starting off my day with -$40 in my bank account.

First time in Denver

I’m from Arizona and I travel a lot for food. Lots of places that claim to have the best meats. Texas, Columbus, NY, DC, Virginia, the list goes on.

My baseline is always Steak Frites. It’s both extremely hard and very easy to mess up a steak and fries.

After landing I checked this sub. I found that people here really choose a side and have no give when they make up their mind.

On spot that was recommended regularly though the posts was Lucina.

Stopped by, 7pm. Got seated quick quickly and was recommended the house bread as it was freshly out of the oven. I asked for a half order. Really good, biscuit adjacent, proper crust crunch with sour notes. Is it $5.50 good? No, but I’m glad I tried it.

However the show was definitely the Churrasco Y Papas. Wow, 9/10 for me. Have I had better? Yes, but it was also in Argentina and well, Argentinians known their steak.

Price is fair, $59 for a decent slice strip and a lot of fries. The fries are crunchy, salty, pillowy. I can eat these all day.

The steak itself was properly cooked with great seasoning but the star of the show was definitely the chimichurri. It was a proper chimichurri, fresh, acidic. Complemented the steak and fries so well.

I would definitely recommend and come again.

That is all.
