Private BDS cutoffs went from 110 to 300 in just 2 years — what's happening and is seat pre-booking real?

So I've been looking at private dental college cutoffs and something doesn't add up.

In 2023 and before, qualifying marks were basically enough to get a seat. People were getting in with 110, 125, 150 marks easily. But in 2024 and 2025, the cutoffs for private colleges in my area suddenly jumped to 200, 250, even 300+.

That's a huge jump. So I have a few questions:

  1. Is 2026 going to follow the same trend or can cutoffs drop back down?

  2. Why did this suddenly spike? More students? Some rule change?

  3. About "seat pre-booking" — after NEET results are out but before or during counseling, some agents and consultancies say you can pre-book a private college seat.

So like if someone scores 170 and the cutoff ends up being 190, will the college still give them the seat? Is this actually a thing or just a way to take your money?

I'm realistically expecting somewhere around 160–170 and just trying to understand if I still have options or not.

Tell me best colleges also in delhi ncr which I can get at 180-200 marks

Private dental colleges in Delhi/NCR or UP with admission around 160–170 marks and fees under 4L/year?

Hey everyone,

I really don't know where else to ask this, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I've been through a lot trying to get into medicine and honestly this might be my last shot at securing something stable for my future.

My expected NEET score is around 160–170 (possibly slightly below), and I'm just trying to find a realistic path forward for BDS. I'm based in Delhi but also have a UP domicile, so I'm open to colleges near Delhi like even jaipur haryana uttarpradesh and so on....

What I'm looking for:

Colleges near delhi

Fees under ₹4 lakh per year

General / OBC category

And one thing that's been genuinely confusing and stressing me out — if a private college has a cutoff of say 190 and I scored 170, does that mean I have absolutely no chance? Or is it the DGME/counselling authority that allots seats, and sometimes students below the listed cutoff still get in? Do colleges themselves have any say in choosing students, or is it entirely out of their hands? I've heard things about seats going vacant and colleges filling them later — is any of that true?

I'm just really trying to understand how this system works before I lose all hope. If anyone has been through this or knows someone who has, please share. Even a little clarity would mean the world right now. 🙏

Do you need to be extraordinary intelligent to crack inicet mds to get aiims for your desired branch?

for cracking inicet mds as a general category student..Does one need to be extra ordinary for that ?

Because my only fear is .. I'm not that extraordinarily intelligent even though I'm hardworking and what if even after putting in every hardwork..

what if ..I won't be able to get my dream branch in inicet ! Because there are like literally 1-2 seats in every institution and some of them reserved too 🥲

Should I do bds?

firstly I don't really care about the prefix of "dr," , I just want to do a degree and experience college life without leaving my home town (living expenses would be high). I was thinking about doing ba/bba but college for that in my city is really bad and mostly "gawar crowd". There is a private dental college in city and my tution would be paid by "post matric scholarship for sc students". I can try to do mds but if I failed I can score a group b govt job with a lot of effort and group c govt job with relative ease. so should I do it? additionally we have good relations with one of the directors of college so I guess attendance may not be that big of issue either. should I do it? I just to want do a degree so might as let it be BDS and I think I would love the challenge of exams and classes and clinical work.

Saveetha for BDS

Hi everyone, I just have some doubts about Saveetha dental college and was hoping if any of you have some ideas related to the cutoff marks in NEET to get into it through management quota.

I've just given my 12th boards and about to give NEET and wanted to get a basic idea of how much I would need to realistically score to get into an institute like Saveetha through management. I basically have zero ideas because no one around me is in dentistry and was hoping you guys could help me out 🙏

Any advice and help is much appreciated

Final year books recommendation

Hello seniors, started with final year and I'm worried if I'll be able to cover all 8 subjects by the exam. I'm still confused on what books to purchase for all 8 subjects. Kindly guide me on what books you used during your final year from exam pov and for knowledge in general. Also lemme know of what other resources to follow.

Does one need to get dental pulse?

Did you join any coaching? if yes , which? is it needed?

Also pls advice me on how should my study approach be this year.

Thanking you in advance.

Stress and mental well being

Hi

I'm a first Yr bds student and I am writing an essay on

"stress and mental well-being of dental students"

so I wanted to know more about the challenges and stress dental students from different year face in both their education, professional and personal life. You can add anything u want like problems, their solution, how you are dealing with them etc etc.

I would really appreciate if even practicing dentists and senior year students all give their own inputs and experience as I have just entered this field.

Thank you
