Real-Debrid's infringing_file errors are filename-based, not DMCA

update 4:

tested 1500+ torrents, RD is actively expanding their filters in real-time

update 3:

6 patterns that are 100% blocked with zero exceptions:

  • [rartv] (26/26), -TORRENTGALAXY (17/17), -GalaxyTV (21/21), -FGT (16/16), -LOL (15/15), -KILLERS/-EPSiLON (22/22)

Near-100%: AMZN+WEBRip (98%), WEBRip+DDP (96%), DIMENSION (95%), BATV/GECKOS (95%), [TGx] (91%), YTS (90%)

update 2:

same anime episode (Ghost Concert EP6, uploaded today on Nyaa):

  • [SubsPlease] Ghost Concert - missing Songs - 06 (1080p) -> OK
  • GHOST CONCERT missing Songs S01E06 1080p CR WEB-DL -> BLOCKED
  • [Trix] Ghost Concert: Missing Songs S01E06 [WEBRip 1080p AV1 Opus] -> BLOCKED

same content. the actual filenames inside the torrent are what gets checked.

same release group (DEMAND), different results depending on the specific torrent:

  • 12 Monkeys S01E09 720p BluRay x264-DEMAND -> OK
  • Mad Men S07E08 720p BluRay x264-DEMAND -> BLOCKED
  • Grimm S04E18 720p BluRay x264-DEMAND -> BLOCKED

ran ~280 torrents against the RD API today to figure out whats going on with all the infringing_file errors. TL;DR: keyword matching on filenames, not actual copyright takedowns.

same episode, different filename, different result

same anime episode (Ghost Concert EP6, uploaded today on Nyaa):

  • [SubsPlease] Ghost Concert - missing Songs - 06 (1080p) -> OK
  • GHOST CONCERT missing Songs S01E06 1080p CR WEB-DL -> BLOCKED
  • [Trix] Ghost Concert: Missing Songs S01E06 [WEBRip 1080p AV1 Opus] -> BLOCKED

same content. only the filename matters.

keywords that get you blocked

fresh torrents from Nyaa (uploaded hours ago):

Keyword OK Blocked
WEB-DL 0 8
WEBRip 0 3
CR (Crunchyroll) 0 5
AMZN 0 2
DSNP 0 2
BD / Remux 8 0
SubsPlease 5 0

if your filename has WEB-DL, WEBRip, AMZN, DSNP, or CR in it, blocked. BD Remux and fansub-style names pass fine.

bigger test (280 random torrents)

Source Blocked
WEBRip 86%
DVDRip 62%
WEB-DL 41%
HDTV 17%
BluRay encode 10%
REMUX 0%

AMZN-tagged content specifically, 75% blocked.

some of the stuff getting blocked

  • Late.Spring.1949.REMASTERED.1080p.BluRay.x264-JRP
  • Popeye-Rodeo.Romeo.1946.1080p.BluRay.x264-REGRET
  • Come.Next.Spring.1956.1080p.AMZN.WEBRip.DDP2.0.x264-SbR
  • Carry.On.Spying.1964.1080p.AMZN.WEBRip.DDP2.0.x264-squalor
  • Our.Planet.2019.S01E03.Jungles.2160p.NF.WEBRip.DDP5.1.x264-NTb
  • GODZILLA The Series (1998-2000) - Complete Animated TV Series - 480p DVDRip x264
  • One Piece S01E1161 1080p CR WEB-DL (uploaded today)
  • Digimon Beatbreak S01E30 REPACK 1080p CR WEB-DL AAC2.0 H 264-VARYG (uploaded today)

a 1946 Popeye cartoon and a 1949 Ozu film are not getting DMCA'd. RD is just running a regex on filenames.

ElfHosted's LitterBox will clean your RealDebrid library of infringing_file content

Hey folks,

It's looking less likely that RD will reverse their infringing_file filters, across WEB-DLs and friends, so we vibed up a tool to help you remove the dead weight from your Real-Debrid library.

Introducing... LitterBox (https://litterbox.elfhosted.com)

Without requiring auth, LitterBox shows you the filename patterns RD is currently blocking — the same ones we're band-aid blocking on our addons to keep streams playing.

After authentication with your RD account (OAuth flow, no API token necessary), it will:

  1. Scan your library for files matching those patterns and let you insta-purge them (they're useless now)
  2. Offer to deep-clean your library, testing each survivor for playability
  3. Surface any new filters the deep-scan turns up, so you can quickly share them here for the community to verify

This way, we can crowd-source a current list of the filters RD is applying and keep our blocklists up-to-date (also helps all those AIOStreams users who are manually maintaining their own blocklists).

LitterBox is open source (https://github.com/elfhosted/litterbox), auditable, has no persistence (everything lives in your browser's storage), and was fully vibe-coded while I drank a margarita in my pajamas (/s)

D

Update for v1.7: RD's filters were blocking our user-agent/ssl-signature combo resulting in 451s on login, even if you were running it locally / with Docker. This is fixed now. I was aggressively testing, and the only way I could unblock my token was to regenerate it, but it's possible it would have naturally unblocked given enough time.

What is the future for DMM?

Just wondering if DMM will continue to be actively updated and worked on and supported given the RD situation or will there be any changes made to DMM in light of recent events? IE filtering of some kind?

I’ve started using DMM with TB on a trial basis and while it functions the same mostly, there are a couple bugs I’ve noticed. For example sometimes delete button in the library does not work. Also when clicking on a file in the library, no details populate unlike with RD. Will the support for TB continue?

DMM has been absolutely amazing for my RD usage the last few years so big thanks to the dev, truly. Really hoping the project continues as it is the only tool I use with these services as I cannot be bothered with add ons, scrapers, etc.

Switching Debrid Providers

I have a 50 TB library of mainly TV shows (currently on RD) that I manage via DMM and watch on Jellyfin via Zurg. My RD sub runs out in a few weeks and I'm thinking about switching to TB and giving it a try.

What is the most elegant way to switch debrid providers for DMM/Zurg? Assuming there won't be as many files cached on TB versus RD (previously at least).

Scrapers can't find my TorBox uploads

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to share a hash list of movies and TV shows (sourced from a private tracker) so they can be indexed and watched by others on TorBox.

However, I’m running into two issues:

  1. Every time my hash list finishes processing, the status automatically switches to "hidden."
  2. While I can see the results in my own cloud, external scrapers don't seem to be picking them up.

I haven't used DMM in a while—am I missing a specific setting or it should be that way.

Any advice on how to make these visible to the community/scrapers would be appreciated. Thanks!
