Best restaurants for kids DF options?

We’re getting ready to go on vacation for the first time since having our daughters. My oldest is 19 months old and has a dairy allergy.

I don’t love eating at chain restaurants especially when on vacation, but I would like to have a couple on hand to be able to hit for a quick lunch one or two days instead of having to go back to the hotel every day.

What chains do you find are best for dairy free options? Doesn’t necessarily have to be off the kids menu, just obviously something she would eat.

Favorite dairy free party appetizer?

We are going to a July 4th party this weekend and I want to make an appetizer that my son (who is DF) can have. Preferably a finger food and not a dip. I’d love any and all suggestions!

Breast milk and dairy intolerance?

My daughter is 12 weeks old and the doctor has recommended I go dairy free to help her stomach issues. She is on a hypoallergenic formula while her gut heals and I’ve been dairy free a week. Anyone with experience with this? Should I save my breastmilk to feed her once she is clear of symptoms or would it hurt her again? The plan was to save it for baths, rashes etc. but it really is a downer to have so much go to waste while I wean down.

Dairy Free Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

Made for a family member, used Flora Buttery as a substitute, and chilled the dough for 60 mins prior to baking. Turned out okay!

Help! All I eat is cheese

Cutting all dairy from my diet for my baby for possible milk protein allergy (so lactose free is still a no go). Give me all your best snack ideas or meals please!

95% of my meals or snacks have cheese…so I really need to keep my calories up. Ordered some plant based protein powder at least!

Ideas please

So due to a health condition I can’t have dairy or gluten (I can but afterwards I get really sick so I try my best to avoid dairy) but I love dairy 🥛
someone PLEASE give me some dairy free items/recipes/snack/meal ideas… I feel like I currently eat the same things
I have tried some dairy free items and have a butter and yogurt that I love but I haven’t found a cheese yet that tastes good to me so any recommendations I would appreciate.
Thank yall in advance 😊

People without allergies- have you had any success reintroducing dairy?

I have been dairy free for about a year now. I had bad stomach issues for yearsss and when I stopped eating dairy it was like magic, I haven’t felt that sick since. I started by doing lactose free but I was still feeling sick so I completely cut out dairy and that’s when everything changed. There are some specific food items that I miss so much but milk is an ingredient and I haven’t found any good alternatives. On one of the items, the last ingredient is nonfat dry milk which means the content is very low since it’s last on the list. Has anyone had any success reintroducing dairy back into their diet with small things like this? I’m not looking to eat pizza or yogurt anytime soon but I’m curious if I could tolerate something where milk is a small ingredient.

Anyone else here also egg free?

It sucks trying to find enough protein without either and egg replacement is harder than dairy. Just curious and looking to commiserate 😅

I’m back with an updated review of margarines! (As a certified margarine hater)

A huge thanks to this community for giving suggestions, because I finally found a margarine/plant butter I LOVE! I am someone who asked for help on here a month or so ago because I needed dairy free options that didn’t taste like classic margarine. I hate the flavor of margarine so much, but I need it for certain meat dishes that can’t have dairy in them. Here are my reviews of the margarines I’ve tried:

Imperial: straight to the trash. Truly gross and I refused to let it curse my food.

Earth Balance Plant Butter: I wanted this to go straight to the trash too because it has the classic margarine flavor that fills your whole mouth with even the tiniest taste. My husband convinced me to let him use it because he’s less picky than me.

Melt Organic Plant Butter: The most disappointing of all because I had high expectations. The margarine flavor wasn’t as intense as other options, but still gross.

Country Crock Olive Oil Plant Butter: WOW, I was blown away! So so so good and the closest to butter I can possibly get. No offensive artificial tastes, no aggressive margarine flavoring, just a stellar butter alternative! I went and bought two more tubs already.

Naturally dairy free chocolate candy?

I’m wondering if there is any chocolate candy that is naturally dairy free as in it’s not marketed as such. I do enjoy some dairy free chocolates like unreal, Justin’s, etc. but I just want a regular chocolate candy for the movies tomorrow although I’m not sure they exist.

Pecan Pie

My mom bought this for herself home. I arrived today and is dairy free (correct me if I’m wrong)! Taste wonderful. Not refrigerated at Krogers.

Any experienced DF cheesecake bakers here? Center of cheesecake is custardy, is that a problem?

My first time baking cheesecake so I'm pretty clueless. Baked 7" spring form for 55 mins at 325F. Sat in oven with door cracked for 1 hour after baking. Then cooled on counter for 2ish hours, then put in fridge for almost 24 hours. Is the custardy part safe to eat?

Butterscotch baking morsels?

I’m in charge of making my late grandmother’s beloved and generationally passed down butterscotch brownies…

Does anyone have any experience (+/-) with this flavor baking chip?!

Varied offerings on Amazon but all bad reviews!

HELP! Need a “cheezy” DF cracker for a 6 yo!

TL;DR - I’m searching for a good DF cheese-flavored cracker to buy off the shelf or recipe.

Rant: it seems like every DF food company is taking turns ripping the rug out from under us! First, Miyoko’s, and now I’m making DF butter from scratch. The Van’s stopped making their pancakes, so I’m making those from scratch every weekend to last through the week. Now MadeGood has discontinued their cheddar star puffed crackers?!? These were my son’s favorites, and he has so very few favorites to choose from these days.

Does anyone know a good recipe that is similar? Or different product to try? We are getting desperate over here! Any thoughts appreciated! TIA!

Thoughts on Whole Foods plant based cheese?

Has anyone tried the Whole Foods plant based shredded cheese selection? They look pretty good! I've had a bunch of other brands but haven't tried these yet. I feel like a little kid on Christmas morning 😆

Ben and Jerry's flavors disappearing?

I'm not sure if it's just the stores in my area or if they're actually gone so I'm curious what others are seeing lately! All I've been able to find recently is Tonight Dough, Cherry Garcia, Americone Dream and Cookie Dough. My favorites are Chocolate Caramel Brownie, Phish Food and Lights Caramel Action and I haven't been able to find them in weeks. Really worried they've discontinued them!

Walmart's Bettergoods Dairy-Free Cream Cheese is awesome!

I bought a tub on a whim three weeks ago and can't get enough of it! It's wonderfully creamy and smooth (no grainyness), with a perfect slight tartness. If you take a spoonful by itself, there is a super slight coconut flavor but it's really not enough to overpower a bagel. I LOVE eating it on a plain bagel with raspberry jam swirled on top. It's definitely the best plain dairy-free cream cheese I've had!

I'll put my experience with other vegan and dairy free cream cheese here, just so you guys can gauge my taste. I've tried Miyokos, Kite Hill, Philadelphia, and Oatly's (back when they still made it). Miyokos was way too sour and grainy. Kite Hill was good for cheesecakes and other baked goods, but it always had a tartness and kind of goopiness that didn't do it for me. I never wanted to eat it on a bagel. Philadelphia had a great texture but it was too salty and very coconut-y. Oatly's also had a nice texture but was so disgustingly chemical-tasting that I didn't want to eat it. I've never tried Tofutti, Daiya, or Violife because my stores never carry them.

Sneaky Dairy Free?

I had a Supreme Daiya pizza night before last. Tasted great! But the next morning (my problem time) all kinds of poopsie/pukies arrived. Why?!! The only thing is see is "natural flavors". I know sometimes that can mean milk. But would Daiya do that? What am I missing that got me?
