"Inspirational speaker? What in the f**k is she talking about?" S8 E2 "The Safe House."

Larry was on fire in this entire scene, and this moment in particular really tickled my funny bone.

In the process of getting Curb on physical media…

and I read the reviews about the Blu Ray set not being in the original aspect ratio so off to eBay I went! As far as what I read, season 7 is where I should begin to get Blu Ray. Right? I discovered Curb really late, unfortunately. But I’m catching up!

This is fantasy. This is science fiction. This is Star Wars. This is spaceship to moon. This is nothing.

Season 7, episode 2

Just found this sub…. I’m rewatching from beginning.
First 2min & 6sec has got to be the funniest 126 seconds of all of Curb.

Larry David as a parody of the Ubermensch.

Hear me out. Forgive me if this is wrong because this is a shitpost I'm not willing to do deep research.

The standard read on Larry is that he's a misanthrope who's bad at society. That might be true but he's also a character who takes social rules more seriously than anyone around him, it's just that his adventures largely center around him either frustrated when someone violates an unspoken social rule, or him trying to break out of one. He's always hyper-aware of "the rules", but sometimes he thinks a rule is better off without one.

So here's how Nietzsche comes in:

My understanding of Nietzsche is that he identified two competing moral frameworks:

Master morality: "Might makes right". The strong define what's good, whatever they can get away with.

Slave Morality: The powerless defining their weakness as virtue and using guilt to put others on trial.

And people largely just inherit one or the other, whatever they're born into really.

But the person who steps outside of this framework and holds each value up to the light, and decides for themselves what's actually worth keeping or not.

A person who actually acted like this in real life would be an absolute pain to deal, much like Larry (the character) is.

Also great grandmother apparently dated Nietzsche. So I'm sure he looked this up at some point and read about his philosophy.
