Cupra Born Recall UK

I’ve had the recall letter for my Cupra Born but the two garages I’ve spoken to (Liverpool and Warrington) have stated that they aren’t battery care centres so can’t do the work needed. Has anyone else had any luck finding out where can actually undertake the updates/repairs?

I'm in the progress of getting an EV and have considered a Cupra Born for a month or so. Haven't had the chance to test drive one yet though and it'll take at least a few weeks until I'll get a chance. From what I've gathered, it's an extremely solid EV apart from the infotainment system. I'd like to hear how much of a hassle is it really dealing with everyday stuff like controlling the climate control.

At the moment I'm driving a Ford Focus mk4, which has mostly has analog controls, so it'd be somewhat of a change.

Waiting on the Born Plus

Just ordered my Born Plus (facelift) switching from a petrol Toyota Aygo, this will be my first encounter with an EV, i bet it's gonna be a blast! 😁

What's your favorite "hack" or whatever about your Born? 😊

Wanted to provide some data. Have the car since 02/2024, it's 170kW, 77kWh battery. Mix of short urban drives and drives on German Autobahn (around 33% of time going full speed when allowed) and cross-country roads. AC is always on Auto 1 and set to 18-20°C, no heatpump, seat heating active when it is very cold. Mostly DC charging.

Is it reasonable?

Last warranty check

My warranty is ending (in about 2 months). Do you think it makes sense to take the car to a service center before the warranty ends for some "final check"? Will they find something, are they interested in finding something, or does the service center not care at all and would rather keep something there for the post-warranty period so they can make more money from it?

Do you have any experience that the service should focus on and check something specific? I have a 2022 model.

I recently test drove a cupra born EV and loved the drive. I live in a city with an off street parking bay and a home charger. I try and avoid driving in the city, I have a bike for that. I mostly use my car to get out of town and often go to rural places (north Scotland, brecon beacons in Wales etc) where the roads are full of potholes and often have a significant camber. I think the changing weather is causing lots of roads to sink at the edges and no one is coming to repair the lesser used B roads anytime soon. I am concerned about the low profile of the Cupra and whether its suitable for this kind of driving. My heart loved the drive but my head is having second thoughts.

Does anything have experience or views on how a Cupra Born would fair on poor quality B roads and unmarked roads?

I have also test driven a 2023 Kira niro ev. It's higher up and probably more practical but it is a bit bigger and just less fun. It's also got a boot which folds flat when the back seats are down, which is another plus point. But still, not as a fun!

I've also read some reviews that ongoing Cupra servicing is very expensive. Have people found this to be the case?

Would welcome any advice and also any suggestions of comparable EVs (not considering any of the premium brands). Thanks

Charging occurred outside of Preferred Time?

Hi all. I have set a preferred time of 23:30-05:30 to coincide with my reduced off-peak tarriff, but last nigh when charging the car, it used enery beyond this, well up to 07:00, which cost a lot more. Why would it have done this, if I've set it to charge only within the preferred time window?

My charger is a Hypervolt one, and I've set that to not have a time window to avoid a previous conflict I'd been having between that and the Cupra app.

Thanks

Does anyone know how to remove this scratches? My nail doesn’t get stuck in it so they are superficial.

Looking at this offer available for used Borns, anyone can share what is the ballpark for a service for one of these? Does €500 seem about right or good value for 2 services. The info says brake fluid change and pollen filter included with each service.

In Ireland for context, but does anyone know if you can choose what Cupra garage gets to carry out the service? I assume I can.

I love the way it slows and brakes when on adaptive cruise, but hate that it stops doing that as soon as I touch the brakes myself. If I don't spot that ACC has quit then I have some hairy moments before getting to the brakes myself.

I know there is some sort of last minute low speed braking in there too but haven't dared try to drive into things to test it out.

Why wouldn't they have the auto braking permanently enabled?

Hi All,

I collected my Born yesterday and I’m thoroughly enjoying my first EV, although I have had an issue using Cupra Connect.

I realise web access ended 22nd April and have downloaded the iPhone app and created an account. However I am unable to link it to the car as when i try to create a new user on the car’s screen, I get the message “This vehicle is part of a commercial fleet.” Seems like a fleet operator has blocked access to Cupra Connect. Posts on this subject steered me to the dealership, who said that Cupra connect only works subscription-free for three years and the fleet message is just weird way of indicating a subscription is required.

Are they right? I only really want to monitor charge levels from inside the house. And is it really £100 per year?

TIA

Does anyone else's windscreen always have a layer of fog no matter how long the blowers are on for? It's a nightmare at the moment with the bright sun making it difficult to see out of

I'm looking for a get a new Cupra Raval but uncertain about the color option, it's a shame options overall is pretty limited with the new Raval but I guess it's due to its price, also the rim options could be better (Born has better ones) but that's another topic. I am leaning towards the default Fiord Blue or possibly Magnetic Tech grey. White I ruled out based on how I feel the copper and white logo and accents doesn't quite clash perfectly to my liking. Black I don't feel is very Cupra-like and not so expressive that this car wants to be. Plasma special color while cool costs 1000€ extra and I'm not 100% into the tone when it shifts into purple, more towards say cyan-grey or something had been more appealing to me. Matte colors aren't an option despite they look cool, is too expensive and requires too much maintenance/can get ugly with time.

So that leaves mostly Fiord Blue and Magnetic Tech grey left, Fiord Blue I like the tone of the color more as it's a more unusual color that stands out but since it's not a metallic one, it does have a slight tendency to look more "plasticky" I feel that can give that "cheap" feel but Magnetic Tech grey again I feel while is more reflective and shiny and such being a metallic one, it's a standard grey color that everyone drives around with and I like to be more expressive and stand out with the colors, it feels in that sense the Fiord Blue does that more so.

Is there anything else you know regarding these color options, say does the standard one wear down easier if you regularly drive through car washes for example (light scratches visible in direct sunlight), chips easier with stone shots etc or?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in the process of buying my first EV, and right now I’m leaning heavily toward the facelifted Cupra Born Endurance.

However, it’s already at the upper end of my budget, so I’m trying to figure out which optional extras are actually worth it.

I’m still unsure about the following:

Heat pump
From what I’ve read so far, it doesn’t seem strictly necessary and is more of a “nice to have.”
Is that accurate, or am I overlooking something?

Navigation system with 12.9" display and extended Cupra Connect features

  • What exactly is meant by “extended Cupra Connect features”?
  • What does the car actually do better compared to the base version of Cupra Connect?

I’ve read that the main advantage of the built-in navigation is charging route planning. However, it seems like you can’t fully filter by all charging providers, only a limited selection of a few.

Since I’ll (hopefully) rarely depend on public charging anyway, I’m wondering if I could skip this option.

Also, when configuring the car without the navigation system, it still includes the infotainment system with this note:
“Includes Welcome Datapack (72 GB) for using apps via the Android In-Car App Store for 3 years.”

  • Does that mean I’ll have to pay for a Cupra Connect subscription after 3 years, even if I only use the basic version?
  • If so: I’m planning to keep the car for a long time (10+ years). Would the navigation package then be a no-brainer since it includes Cupra Connect for 10 years?

Would really appreciate honest opinions and real-world experiences on these points.

Thanks! 😄

So woke up this morning, got in my born and went to drive to work when this appeared. Car not in limp mode or anything and appeared driveable... Late 24 plate car on a 77kwh battery pack.

Used cupra assist who sent AA but they said couldn't identify error.... When they arrived error was gone and hasn't returned. But this has been intermittent where fairly recently the same error has come up in yellow warning of low battery level.

Cupra assist then told me to take it to my dealer and they'd sort out a courtesy car but dealer was unwilling to play ball with Cupra assist request (Arnold Clark own local franchises which may be part of their unhelpful-ness)

Anyone experiencing anything similar? What's the fix?

Similarly anyone else been caught in middle of an argument between cupra assist and local dealership? Already got my complaint sorted.
