Fancy staircase that leads to a ceiling

Found this at Nomad, London.

During the conversion of the former Bow Street Magistrates' Court, the design team (Roman and Williams) had to navigate strict preservation rules for the Grade II-listed building.

Instead of tearing out portions of the old structure that couldn't lead to modern compliant exits, they kept this segment as a "folly" a decorative feature that celebrates the building's quirky past.

A hidden treasure, confusing of course!
