After six years doting on the Jungle I bought from a breeder in Texas, I’m now finding out that it’s actually a coastal. This is heartbreaking. Of course I still love her deeply and adore my beautiful Cher, but I am LIVID about being sold a JCP that’s actually a Coastal and the breeder that took advantage of my naivitywhen buying my first carpet. Unfortunately I can’t remember who the breeder was and no longer have access to the emails we exchanged as I’ve cleaned out my inbox multiple times in the last years. All I remember is that she came from Texas. Does anyone know of suspicious breeders based out of Texas? Maybe hearing some names might ring a bell…
Best thing about having a carpet python other than the obvious is you're always photo ready

I love the way he shines when he’s done a fresh shed
Hello all! I’m currently doing some research because I’m planning on getting a carpet python. From my understanding, they’re considered medium-sized pythons, depending on the locality/subspecies, and can range from around 6–8 feet in length, though some individuals can grow larger. They’re also semi-arboreal snakes, so they enjoy climbing and benefit from having vertical space, sturdy branches, elevated hides, and enrichment within their enclosure.
From what I’ve researched so far, carpet pythons generally do well with an ambient temperature around 24–27°C, a basking spot of roughly 31–33°C, and moderate humidity levels of around 50–70%, depending on the locality and seasonal conditions.
I’ve also read that they’re intelligent, active snakes with strong feeding responses compared to some other commonly kept species. Many keepers describe them as curious and alert, especially during handling and enclosure interaction.
I do already have experience with food-motivated and “talkative” snakes, as I currently keep two common boas. One is a rescue that was initially very defensive and reactive, but with time and consistent handling has become almost puppy-dog tame.
I’m still researching care requirements, enclosure size, temperament, feeding, and handling, so I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or firsthand experiences from current or former keepers. Thanks in advance!
