Car-brained boomer Gary Bredefeld says “people don’t want to be forced out of their cars” at recent city council meeting in Fresno

Homophobe city council member Gary Bredefeld, who called Pride Month “woke shit” and has been accused of sexual assault by a former employee (because of course he has) says that Fresno residents “love their cars” and “don’t want to be forced out of their cars” to ride scooters, buses, and bicycles, instead the money should go towards making Fresno even MORE car-centric.

Fresno, we really voted for this guy?

Gary Bredefeld is on the Board of Supervisors for District 2, and this is the type of cancerous and hateful rhetoric language he brings to council meetings. The video only has 400 views on YouTube, so I’m sure you haven’t seen it.

Question about gravel Biking in Woodward

Is there any way to get from Woodward Park area underneath the freeway to the trails on the other side? The trails just seem to dead end into someone’s backyard.

Over 60+ cyclists biked 3 miles in the rain to support Downtown Fresno this week

Over 60 Fresno bicyclists rode over 3 miles in the rain in order to show love and support for two new bars that opened in downtown, including Moses McQueen. Love to see the biking community in Fresno alive and well and showing businesses in downtown the support they need to thrive and feel welcomed!

Do you think bicyclists in Fresno deserve better biking infrastructure?

Lots of people in r/fresno seem to think bicyclists in Fresno don’t deserve better biking infrastructure because “nobody rides in Fresno”. What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts

What should Fresno's bike priorities be?

I don't live in Fresno but grew up there and still spend about a month of every year there. I still bike there from time to time. Here's what I would prioritize to make biking in Fresno better:

  1. Completing existing trails and making crossings at major roads safer. There's a lot of trails with gaps, including gaps between trails. Good luck getting down Herndon all on bike trails; there's large gaps. Are they ever gonna connect the Dry Creek trail near Sunnyside and Shepherd? Are they ever gonna hookup the Midtown Trail to the Clovis trail near the airport? There's also a lot of unsafe crossings. No one should ever have to cross major roads like Herndon, Shaw, and Clovis, there should be under or over passes. Freeway on-ramps like the ones on the Midtown Trail near Manchester should also be bypassed.

  2. Prioritizing a safe route N/S in central/west Fresno. Right now the safest route is Van Ness through Old Fig Garden. The issue is it stops at Shaw. If you commute from the Woodward Park area to DT, getting down Palm is pretty unsafe. One option is building a path next to the train tracks that head NW out of downtown.

  3. Completing the Eaton Trail from 99 to Millerton Lake: This is mostly recreational, but if you look at how many people use the existing segment, it's obvious there's an appetite for more. The upcoming River West expansion (which took far too long) will be nice, but Fresno needs more. There should be a continuous trail from 99 to Millerton Lake, period.

Bike Parking at the Fresno Zoo

Can anyone share on Google maps where I might be able to park my bike at the Fresno Zoo? Was thinking about biking there, but I can't seem to find if they have bike parking. Thank you!

PSA: You can use the “FresGO” app to report potholes in bike lanes

If you come across any pot holes on your ride, use the FresGO app (can be downloaded in App Store). This is one I reported 2 weeks ago. They fixed it within 2 days. It also doesn’t have to be a bike lane, it can just be on a road you ride (I’ve done that too before) or a sidewalk.

You can also report illegal parking in bike lanes in the app and illegal dumping. They respond immediately! I’ve used it dozens of times.

California allocates $900M for better bicycle infrastructure. How much will Fresno get?

I heard the number Fresno will receive is $250M for better biking and pedestrian infrastructure. With Project Active Transportation and Vision Zero being initiated this year, how is the future of bicycling in Fresno looking?

r/BikeFresno needs mods!

This wonderful community has grown to nearly 200 members in less than 5 days! Wow!

Bikability in Fresno is such an important topic to me, but so is breaking my phone addiction. At this rate I’m on reddit for multiple hours a day. I need some help running this community, spreading the word, and continuing to grow it in numbers.

If you’re a bicyclist or just someone passionate about a healthier Fresno, please reach out to me if you’re interested in being a moderator here at r/BikeFresno. I’d really appreciate some help, and also I don’t want to leave for a week or two and come back to a dead sub. I’d rather have a team of mods who can keep things flowing even in my absence.

Pay is a virtual hug and a better Fresno.
