Should I finally do it?
TL;DR - I wanna buy a loopstation but I'm having a crisis of confience.
I've been on the fence about getting my own loop for ages now, and things are lining up in terms of how much time I can make and arranging the dough, and I'm having a crisis of confidence.
I've always been a musician, and I found beatbox when GBB19 took over youtube in COVID. I've always said "I'm into beatbox" and never "I'm a beatboxer", despite having picked up the basics after years of following beatbox. Over the past year, I've become more and more sure I want to give it a go and buy a loop. Problem is, I cannot seem to find anywhere I could start the journey of learning. There's minimal beatbox culture in my country, loops here aren't even common they're imported, so they're expensive.
But I can't shake the itch. I've been trying to find good starter tutorials on youtube, but I feel like as someone with zero knowledge of electronic music and music production (I play acoustic instruments) I will have a hard time catching on. Plus the cost is enough for me to treat this as an investment, and it feels like pressure when it shouldn't.
Any advice from when any of you started out?
Also, if I do go ahead, any recommendations for the rest of the equip?
Current Wish List:
Boss RC-505 mkii
Behringer XM8500 Ultravoice (Cuz Brez said so)
Cables
Bose QC Headphones I have, should I get different ones?
What small powered speaker is enough for bedroom and practice use?
WHERE DO I GO LEARN. I am open to low cost paid courses, or even sessions with pros to get me started on the basics.
I'm sorry for the rant and long post, but frankly, I know this community gets it. I first installed reddit years ago to join this forum just to be around like-minded, similarly inclined folk.
Thanks for being that space.
Also my delusional GBB26 solo predictions
i think osis is gonna win GBC so thats why hes in it, and also small final footbox is gonna win
100% Accurate GBB Solo Prediction
Explanations of Key Things:
- Dlow mid elim: No doubt dlow will generally do very well, but have a feeling he's going to want to do a multi-set elim similar to his current showcase format. If this is the case, think it'll be fine but have a feeling the people I put above him are going to come with a strong 4 minute theme which will pull them ahead.
- "[insert beatboxer] not in top 8?": Obviously some crazy beatboxers (and consistently good live ones) like Kaji, Blackroll, etc are not in my top 8 but this is more to do with who is in the top 8. With how stacked this year is, I have a feeling it's going to take a truly special elimination for anyone to make top 8 and not just a strong and consistent elimination, in particular I think people are going to need one of kind themes (river, osis, inertia) or unbelievable pop off moments (dlow, remix, pacmax, patbox, footbox) to separate from a crowd that is undeniably stacked.
- Osis winning: His gbb 25 run got cut short and him preparing even harder for gbb 25 than he did for 24 (forgot who but someone said this about osis) along with him posting a ton of short snippets on social media has me thinking he has a LOT of material he's ready to pull out that's going to be a problem for most (you can't convince me "Hysteria" wouldn't beat 99% of routines anyone else is pulling up with once he finishes it). I also think Osis has one of the better matchups into dlow (who is ofc one of the biggest issues) compared to everyone else as he has a lot of sounds dlow can't counter (any poly, vibration bass, etc) and unique combos that would be on the much harder end of the spectrum to counter (obviously there's the inward bass counter but in the beat it would be so surrounded by other osis stuff that I dont think dlow would try for it); this would put dlow into a position where I think he'd know countering wouldn't be ideal and so he'd be forced into fully his own material and I think going routine for routine osis has a considerable edge as frankly I think dlow routines still leave some to be desired as compared to someone like osis. Similarly, if some other matchups happen I think osis still has good matchups: footbox I think is super in osis favor as osis can reach close to footbox levels of tech but with more power and stronger routines; river I think would be close but I think osis's consistency and clarity would be the deciding factor; Etc...
If you have anything in particular you want my reasoning for or some counter arguments lmk because Im happy to nerd out about any of this. This is all for fun so don't take it too seriously but hope you get something interesting out of this!
My early gbb prediction
I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts
Congratulations to the participants qualified to GBB and everyone who participated!
Tag team: UMA
Loopstation: Mokbay
Crew: Novel Vintage
Solo: Bookie Blanco
Alternate history: If GBB 2025 was flipped and became battle-to-elim instead of elim-to-battle, who would have won?
1. Battle Stage
Everyone will battle everyone in a league system (or perhaps swiss system). Assume duration is not a problem. Battles are as usual.
Top 8 qualified to the Elimination Stage.
All 16 participants: Osis, Remix, Napom, Exallos, Blackroll, KI, Max, Pono, Pacmax, Kaji, Steady, Wing, Den, Dropical, Codfish, Stitch.
Who are your top 8 to pass this stage?
...
2. Elimination Stage
This is like The Voice / Got Talent / American Idol Shows, where some participants will be eliminated after each round. Each round elim is as usual, 4 minute sets.
Quarter-Final Round: Which 4 names will pass this round out of your top 8?
Semi-Final Round: Which 2 names will pass this round out of your top 4?
Final Round: Who will win out of the your top 2?
Best beatboxers overall in GBBs
GBB 2025 is one of the unique ones where a non-winner (Wing) was widely considered as the best overall in the competition (even Dlow agreed, who voted for PacMax), but fairly defeated by PacMax in the final.
What do you think about the previous GBBs? Are the winners the best overall as well? If not, I think let's choose from the top 4 only, because they perform the same number of sets.
Let me write them down, all that are recorded by the wiki.
2024: Julard 1, Osis 2, Remix 3, Kaji 4
2023: River 1, Napom 2, Wing 3, Abo Ice 4
2021: Colaps 1, River 2, FootboxG 3, King Inertia 4
2019: D-low 1, Tomazacre 2, B-Art 3, Codfish 4
2018: Codfish 1, D-low 2, Hiss 3, BATACO 4
2017: Napom 1, Hiss 2, Alexinho 3, Trung Bao 4
(I stopped here since the rest have no top 8 battles).
King clearly said dont play.
Den tried his best to counter him but.... King Interia was better
Tag team gbb so stack
Bro y'all are not ready for tag team its better than solo imo.
Julard and patbox are just two crazy mf they can win
Bookie and pacmax the same
Frosty dlow the same
Alem alexinho the same
Tunecinoo and osy the same
Like 5 title conteder that i know can smash the stage

Lemekla / kotcha (you might call me crazy but) 4-1
Uniteam / lemekla UNPREDICTABLE
Who do you think has the most original/alien soundkit?
reddit.comwhy are frosty liprolls so powerfull?
Frosty sub bass liprolls are by far the loudest and deepest I've heard, I wonder if is technique is different or he is just gifted
I’ve seen several performances that were truly impressive, like D-low GBB18, Tomaz GBB19, and Colaps GBB21. But personally, the performance I liked the most and enjoyed watching the most was DEN’s in BBU22. Every round was nothing short of entertaining. His performances are so good that it surpass even the exceptional stage performances
what do you guys think? Do you also have any specific runs that might not be considered “goated”, but you really enjoyed watching?
