i failed my last english assessment which was worth 13.5 of my grade, which is probably a fail, so i was thinking that i completely stop trying for english, which i spend a lot of time on. this would allow me to focus more on my top 4subjects and do better on them. I just wanted to know if that’s a good idea, like do unis check your english grades or do i just need to do the english competency test. and would the fact that i’ve taken the english competency exam affect my uni applications. i just want to know if it’s better to take the competency exam with a good atar or get like a moderate atar with a pass in english. and if you’ve taken the competency exam what was it like

97 ATAR AIM HELP!
Hey guys, so I'm currently in my second term of yr 12, and I'm aiming for a 97 ATAR at the end of the year as the course I want to get into is highly competitive (not med or anything tho lol). These are my grades now:
Apps- 93
english-75
bio-70 (can def get that up, just bombed my first test so bad)
physics-75
Could anyone please help me kind of estimate what ATAR I would be sitting around now realistically, and how much I need to improve my results to hit my aim, please? (Also, I don't go to any fancy school or anything, just a basic WA school)
Just for context I am a year 10 student averaging about 70 in HASS, religion and science (advanced classes) averaging 80 for mathematics (advanced) and about 60 for English (normal classes)
I am interested in medicine but I don’t think my current grades are good for it I am thinking of taking these subjects
MATH METHODS
ENGLISH ATAR or LITERATURE
CHEMISTRY ATAR
RELIGION AND LIFE ATAR(catholic school so I have to)
HUMAN BIOLOGY ATAR
And for my final subjects
Either cert 2 workplace skills(transfers into cert 3 business for year 12) or cert 2 community cervices (transfers into cert 3 health support services in year 12)
Please let me know what you think, your recommendations and what you think I should do or change
Spec scaling
I’m a year 11 student doing spec averaging a raw 70 at a good school and I get lots of my friends in apps telling me to do apps as their getting 90s I understand apps scales down but how much does spec truly scale up (not including 10 percent bonus)
