Why does my newly installed wood look like this
My contractor redid the wood trim around the house but I am not sure what he did wrong for it to look like this and how can we fix it now?

We bought this 1970s home back in 2020. Bathroom floor fell through In 2024 and my SIL recommended a guy she has do work on her house. He was a family friend for 30+ years and we trusted him.
He replaced the bathtub, floors and some of the sheetrock on the first day, which was our main concern. it was looking like a great start I thought. It was functional again.
Second day he shows up blitzed out of his mind and this is how he left it after scamming us out of several thousands. We paid for real tile and he left this “temporary floor” until he came back.
Super embarrassing and just overall depressed about it. We haven’t had the money to fix it but we still have some of the supplies in our shed. It’s horrific but this is our main bathroom and we are a family of 7! I’d like to make it look nice. Just so overwhelmed and have been avoiding it like the plague after all the drama surrounding it. Been a huge mental block for us but im ready to face it. what are your thoughts? I don’t even know where to begin!
Greetings Redditors!!
I am seeking some advice. I am moving into a new rental unit! And signing a two-year lease.
I love the apartment but the bathroom is completely outdated. Still, its spacious and a wet bathroom so I am grateful.
Can anyone give me suggestions on how to make this space cute and cozy? The tan tile really makes me cringe. Theres at least three different sizes.
Really unsure how to do here. Peel and stick tile? Three .. different … kinds?
I appreciate any insight you guys may have for me. Like I said, its a two-year lease so I’m making at least a 24-month commitment to this place.
