Stop Ignoring Your Yellow Stove Flame! (Durban Appliance Fix)

Hey everyone! Since we’re getting our new Durban Appliance Repair group off the ground, I wanted to share a quick tip about something we see way too often: the dreaded yellow flame.

If your stove looks like a flickering candle instead of a sharp blue torch, it’s not just "running low"—it’s actually not burning right. Here’s the lowdown on how to sort it out before it ruins your pots.

Why it’s happening

Basically, your stove is "choking." It’s getting too much gas and not enough air.

  • Usually, it’s just spilled food or grease from Sunday's lunch clogging up the works.
  • Sometimes the burner cap is just sitting a bit wonky.
  • If you’ve recently moved the stove, the air settings might have been knocked out of place.

What you can do right now

  • The Paperclip Trick: Take the burners off and check the little holes. If they’re gunked up, use a paperclip or an old toothbrush to clear them out. Avoid toothpicks—if they snap inside, you’re in for a headache!
  • Check the "Hat": Make sure the heavy metal cap on top is sitting perfectly flat. If it’s even a tiny bit tilted, the flame goes yellow and messy.
  • The "Black Pot" Test: If your pans are coming off the stove with black soot on the bottom, stop using that plate. That’s a surefire sign.

Need a hand?

If you’ve given it a good scrub and it’s still burning orange, it might be a faulty regulator or an internal air adjustment issue. Don't mess with the gas lines yourself if you aren't sure—it's not worth the risk.
