Camera is the best I've used on a phone

Moved to the 17 Ultra solely for the camera and now disappointed.

PSA: The fatal architectural trap in Xiaomi/POCO devices (FBE + Locked Bootloader) that permanently destroys your data.

PSA: The fatal architectural trap in Xiaomi/POCO devices (FBE + Locked Bootloader) that permanently destroys your data.

Hi everyone,

I’m writing this not as a rant, but as a technical warning to all Xiaomi/POCO users about a severe architectural flaw in their software design that just cost me years of personal data.

A few weeks ago, my completely stock, unrooted Xiaomi 11T Pro suddenly crashed while listening to a WhatsApp audio. It rebooted into a black screen showing: "The system has been destroyed".

I refused to accept the standard "just factory reset it" response from the official support, so I sent the device to a leading forensic data recovery lab in Spain (OnRetrieval).

The Forensic Verdict:

The lab analyzed the phone in a cleanroom and officially certified that the hardware (UFS memory, motherboard) is perfectly intact. The issue? MIUI/HyperOS spontaneously corrupted its own boot/system partition. The Trap (Why your data is doomed):

The real danger isn't just the crash; it's how Xiaomi's security architecture handles it.

  1. The device uses FBE (File-Based Encryption).

  2. The Bootloader is locked (as it comes from the factory).

Because the OS corrupted itself, the decryption keys/secure partition are compromised. If your bootloader was unlocked, you could easily flash a clean boot.img via fastboot and rescue your data. But with a locked bootloader, Xiaomi gives the legitimate owner ZERO fallback mechanisms. You cannot repair the bootloop without the system forcing a total 'Wipe Data'.

You are effectively locked out of your own hardware, and the system shreds your data in the name of "security".

My advice to the community:

If you own a Xiaomi or POCO device, either back up your data daily, or unlock your bootloader while the phone is still working. Right now, an unlocked bootloader is your only lifeline against Xiaomi's unstable OS committing sudden suicide.

(I have compiled a public technical dossier with the official forensic report, logs, and a technical FAQ. I will leave the Google Drive link in the first comment below so the spam filters don't block this post!).

Stay safe and back up your data!

Personal Pros and Cons of Xiaomi phones?

I’m finally updating from my iPhone X of four years to a Xiaomi 15 and I’m super excited! My brother has been with this brand and his constant bashing of Apple (as well as my personal use) has convinced me to try it out.

My main reasons for changing is:

- Gaming

- Storage

- Camera

- Battery

- At least 4-5 years of software and security updates

Since it’s my first time, I’m open to hear more about it, so please share your experience regarding it or any series!

I never used my Phone Camera much before buying the Leitzphone - and i love it

Was it ridiculous expensive ? Yes

Is it a pain the ass to switch from iOS to Android? Also Yes

But the Camera hands down makes up for all of that, it is that good. People are always flabbergasted when presenting my recent pictures and potraits. And i am myself nowhere near close to using the full potential of the Ultra / Leitz.

10/10 would buy again

Xiaomi 17 haptic feedback (vibration) defective. Do all units are affected?

Xiaomi 17 haptic feedback is awful. Metallic sound especially during typing. Please report if you noticed it too. Xiaomi is currently refusing to address the problem.

AI service 120gb.

I was wondering why I was already at half of my storage space. Found out this AI background service was using 120gb on my phone? No idea what it's used for but I removed the data and instantly got the space back. I'm using a Xiaomi 15 Ultra. So just a heads up if you miss more storage space than you expected.

Gemini as Personal Assistant on Xiaomi 17 Ultra Global?

I've gotten Gemini set up as a personal assistant when I press and hold the power button for .5 seconds, but Gemini never responds to the verbal wake words, "Hey, Google."

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Why is my left earbud dying so fast

I have this earphones for like year and half I think and lately (since last month I think) I noticed that the left battery dies really fast. For example this photo shows battery level after listening for about an hour. No additional battery draining options are on. What can I do with this, they are kinda hard to use like this

Does the Galaxy Watch Ultra work with Xiaomi 17 Ultra?

Looking at getting the 17 Ultra Global version. I am currently on S24U, and have Samsung Ultra watch and Galaxy Buds and Samsung Smart tags. Was wondering if they would still work when I move over to Xiaomi.

Thanks!
