Canvas down during finals week? WTF?

Canvas down during finals week? WTF?

My daughter who is at Xavier called me in a panic with final papers due tonight that Canvas is down at the school. I am kind of her IT guy when weird computer stuff happens. I checked, and it's down everywhere in the world, really. She needs the rubrics and such for her papers and a few assignments. She can't get to them. There is no paper copy. What are you all doing about this situation? she has contacted all her professors, but she is very concerned. This is ridiculous!

UPDATE: As of 11pm, it's been been fixed!!! Talk about last minute!!!

UPDATE2: This is now national news: https://www.cnn.com/2026/05/07/us/canvas-hack-strands-college-students-finals-week

Anybody catch today's CBC - Xavier University enrollment jumps 36% after drop in 2025

Despite rumors by some of no growth, looks like enrollment will actually surge this year. Article has lots of points of the good things happening at Xavier.

  • 950 new students with renewed strategy of admitting students who will be successful - says 35% increase
  • Near record-high retention
  • New Med school
  • 11 new majors
  • Expanding Greek Life and possibly football (?)
  • Top basketball portal class - Go Pitino!!!
  • Sounds like fundraising is very strong

So now that the deposit deadline has passed…

What are the number for the incoming class? 👀

Two weeks ago we were told the incoming class was going to be “over 1000” per the (fired?) former Vice President of enrollment two weeks ago in the Xavier Newswire.

I’m our leadership wouldn’t be lying to us, right?

I wonder how much over 1000 we will be!?!

incoming freshman

I am a transfer student from another university but I will be restarting this year as a freshman. I’m stuck between Xavier and Cleveland State. Personally, both of these schools have great benefits to me, but I am also a very social person. Does anyone have knowledge on the nightlife/social setting at XU? And also I know it’s a Jesuit but are they really as religious as they make it out to be? I have read some comments saying it’s a pretty liberal community but also some saying that they are very strict on religion. I want to clarify that I have no issue with this, I’m personally just not religious and if they are very adamant about it then it’s probably not the best fit for me.
