it’s lupine season

my favourite time of the year in our town.

Remus was a puppy last year during lupine season, but i didn’t get many photos due to timing (he arrived a week before i went on a week long work trip), so I’m making the most out of this year.

(they are poisonous and considered an invasive species, but he’s a good boy and surprisingly doesn’t try to eat them — despite wanting to put everything else in his mouth.)

Accidentally adopted a wolfdog

I adopted a puppy advertised as primarily a GSD malamute mix. Turns out he's 31% wolf which I kinda suspected, to be honest.

Is there anything different I should do as far as training goes? He's extremely smart and at 10 weeks he already knows to sit, lay down and paw. I also got him at 6 weeks which I didn't know until he was already handed over to me. I thought he would be 8-10 weeks old.

I wanted a high energy dog so I'm not too concerned about that. I also have 5 acres and can fence in a large area if that would be helpful for him. Really, whatever you guys suggest I'm willing to do to make sure he's raised to be happy, healthy and safe.

Loki being adorable

Loki's favorite way to lay is to collapse on the floor in a big sploot. He also like rearrange the couch because apparently my way is unacceptable. And he loves to cuddle with his little brother Yeoubi after long walks.

content of my puppy and anxiety

Hi guys!

How much wolf do you think is still in my Saarloos Wolfdog puppy and How can I best deal with their anxiety?

Her name is skylar, she is 13 weeks old and has been living with me for less than a week.
She is still very shy, though she has already built up some trust in me and my dog.

She has moments where she acts like a normal puppy, but the very next moment, fear overwhelms her again :/
She is afraid of almost everything.
But what she finds worst of all is people.

However, I am approaching everything very calmly and trying to show her the world, step by step.
For now, she should just observe and learn that things aren't actually that bad.
After a while, that calms her down quite effectively.

She doesn't walk on a leash at all yet, though; she usually immediately goes into "flight mode."
For that reason, we are practicing a bit in the garden.

I have experience with Huskies, but not with wolfdogs.

I love her more than anything and don't want to stress her out too much; however, I do want her to be able to navigate her daily life more calmly in the future.

If anyone has any tips on how to handle shyness at this age, I would be very grateful!

Dog

Since my house usually had two dogs at a time but now I only have one, I always feels like something is missing. I’ve been thinking a lot about getting another dog lately but one CSV pup is a handful. I might have to wait a year or two for the pup to mature a bit before bringing home another. And with some time to prepare I really want opinions on which breed should I get.. like which breed would be a good companion for CSV? Do you recommend another WD?

Genetics never lie lol claimed f1 confiscated from CT embark results are back

Two puppies were dumped at a CT shelter claimed as wolfdogs a month or so ago, they did a UC davis test and misunderstood the results saying one parent had wolf in them as saying 1 parent was a pure wolf. Embark was done (last pic) and has come back. Many tried telling them that they physically couldnt be f1 50% with the lack of wolf traits and the liver coloration on one pup but the rescuers/shelter workers argued tooth and nail because of the UC davis results being misunderstood.

This big boy is 40kg on his first birthday!
We're proud of the work he's doing, a cuddly big boy, well balanced in behaviors, a bit over-excited, but it's part of our high content goofball
