Wood Elf Wardancers, childhood repaint cont.

So here is part 2 of the repaint of my childhood Wardancers (part 1 is here).

At the end of the last post I had blocked in the colours and just applied washes, now we can start the fun part of the painting.

I start from the skin, Bugmans Glow mixed with Rakarth Flesh in lighters shades, and hair, from black to a blue grey. Next we paint in the leggings where I use Warpstone glow and then mix in a blue tone grey (Celestra Grey) to get a colder lighter shade, this to have them contrast better with the warm green grass base which is green with yellow mixed in..

After that we move on to the loincloth and sword tassels. And then the leather, sword grips and gold. The leggings also got some purple trim where they are open on his right side. As an homage to my metal band warpaint wearing childhood models I gave the dancers a little more subdued warpaint using Agrax Earthshade.

Finally the swords got some shading, first time trying that out but it went ok. Did a simple opposite dark with a dividing line. Juan Hidalgo has good tutorials I tried to look at.

All in all I think they all came out pretty ok. They still have that 90s saturation without going complete clownmode. I'm looking forward to more Wood Elf painting, but might wait a while for the next batch to soak properly.

Hello all!

As I learn the rules of the games, I chose wood elves to be my go to army (I love the models) even tho people told me they are hard to play. As someone who learns better when playing, I have an introduction game coming and I asked for 2k points instead of 1k...I've played a couple of wargames already (40k, aos, asoiaf) so I feel kinda confident I can take the 2k.

Anyways I made an army list for my first game, but even tho is my first game, I want to have at least a decent list, so any tips here is appreciated. Thanks!

Woodelf Lady (Glade Captain)

For this mini I used the upper body of Qulathis the Exile (Warhammer Cursed City) and combined her with a Glade Rider plus some other parts.

I wanted to create a dynamic pose. The original model is shooting while jumping back. I transformed this into a backward shooting position from the horse back.

For the paintjob I did all metallic surfaces using NMM including the freehand on the scabbard.

Glade Lord on Great Wolf

My heavily kitbashed Glade Lord model, meant to represent a Great-Stag mounted noble. I got to use her in a game a few days ago: she managed to kill an Empire Griffon General with a runefang with assistance from a mage.

Does base size matter when Embedding a branchwraith in a unit of dryads.

Putting aside the movement issue with branchwraiths not getting the same movement as dryads;

If I want to embed one in a unit of dryads, does it need to have the same base size? Or does it not really matter?

Edit:

for clarification, I put my dryads on 25mm bases, but the branch-wraith came with a 30mm base.

Did I make a mistake here?

You tend to see Wood Elf mages using the trees to move. Must really annoying for the trees to be woken up by someone singing only so they can be moved 6 feet.

Help figuring out personal woodelf faction lore

My friend and I are working out the lore for his Bretonnians and my Woodelves and why they'd be in conflict. I don't know enough about Oldworld lore to place my faction, but it should be near Bretonnian territory. So my hopes for this post:

Where would make sense for these Elves to exist, and if you have any ideas you think would be cool for this faction I'd love to hear them.

My pitch: Scattered villages who cooperate for their survival, they are coastal elves who live in a redwood forest (see: Muir Woods / Endor). He was nice enough to buy me Araloth, incorporating him would be cool.

In our heads, the Brettonians would be attempting to harvest some of these Sequoias, which the Woodelves have named individually as they are all extremely old growth, so battles around logging camps, sawmills, and beaches would be the setting.

I'm planning on using the Stag cavalry. If I end up incorporating Treemen, I'd paint them as Redwoods.

The color scheme is a light ocean blue(main) , a sandy beige (armor), sequoia red(weapons), and a fern green(trim).

Thanks Everyone! Excited to be a part of this setting.

Help a newbie!

Hey brothers and sisters of athel loren. So, i got myself a wood elf army because i love elves of the old world and now i have some games under my belt, the thing is I'm getting stomped by pretty much anyone in my local store.

My usual game goes like this: a couple of turns of shooting followed by dying when my opponent gets to make its charges.

We have an ongoing campaign and this is my list. Maybe can you help me figure out how to bring out the best of the units?

234 - Glade Lord, Great Weapon, An Annoyance of Netlings, General, Great Stag, Talisman Of Protection

129 - Spellsinger, Elven Steed, Wizard Level 1, Elementalism, Ruby Ring of Ruin

135 - 10 Dryads, Nymph

120 - 10 Glade Guard, Arcane Bodkins

120 - 10 Glade Guard, Arcane Bodkins

132 - 6 Glade Riders, Arcane Bodkins, Ambushers, Reserve Move

153 - 3 Tree Kin

Thank you!
