Why do people prop up the MK7 and bash the Mk8? Very few it seems actually know the internals of the EVO 4 platform. All I hear is infotainment and piano black, and the grill! Yes, there are a few aesthetics that could be better but the reality is the MK8 EA888.4 is a more refined, more reliable and better performing engine/platform. EVO 4 has upgraded fueling, cooling and a better turbo. (Although I still prefer the Continental golf R turbo) which is why I’m doing that swap next week!

The Mk7 GEN 3 platform is very good no doubt but the MK8 is even better in every way and I’m not sure if many realize it yet!!! Yes the infotainment and glossy interior suck but the bottom line is the EA888.4 platform outperforms the MK7 gen 3. Mk8 for me everyday of week including SUNDAY!

Hello. Given how new the 2026 8.5 GTI's are. Can anyone comment if the travel lane assist pinging has been fixed. We had a 2022 GTI that had it go off every time we drove our car and several times during a short trip. We love the 2022 GTI otherwise and that's why we are considering getting a replacement in 2026 but want to see if it's still a problem that VW has not fixed 4 years later.
