I lived 1 year around Catharijnesingel and I must say that Utrecht is the Dutchiest city in the randstad.

The question is: would you ever share a meal with strangers at home?

I have been doing this regularly (like yesterday) and I had so much fun, photo attached!

Tomorrow, I need to travel from Utrecht Centraal very early to get to a medical appointment in time. To make an otherwise stressful day a bit less rushed, I'd like to pick up breakfast to go so I can eat in the train. Where can I get a nice breakfast that, preferably, won't break the bank? I understand that the prices at the station are higher than elsewhere and am OK with that. What do you usually get or would you recommend?​​

Begin Mei is mijn vriend jarig. Ik wil een verrassingsdag voor hem organiseren met verschillende activiteiten in Utrecht. We wonen hier nog niet zo lang, dus ik dacht wellicht hebben jullie ideeën / tips? We houden van natuur, lekker eten, tours, iets cultureels, workshops…

Als jij één ding aan Utrecht mocht veranderen, wat zou dat zijn?

Utrecht is natuurlijk een topstad op veel vlakken. Mooi centrum, levendig, goede sfeer en eigenlijk altijd wel wat te doen.

Maar iedereen die hier woont of vaak komt, heeft waarschijnlijk ook wel iets waarvan je denkt: hoe is dit nog steeds niet aangepakt?

Dus stel dat jij echt één ding in Utrecht mocht veranderen, wat zou dat zijn?

Mag van alles zijn: wonen, verkeer, drukte in de binnenstad, openbaar vervoer, fietsen, parkeren, uitgaan of iets heel specifieks.

Ben benieuwd wat mensen als eerste zouden aanpakken

Mijn vriendin moet af en toe in de avond fietsen vanaf het UMCU naar oost (IBB). Wat is een verstandige en veilige route voor haar?

I am new in Utrecht and I am looking for a physiotherapist that can help with lower back issues and that could also help minor sport injuries (that i have from time to time from gym / kickboxing). Anyone that you could help recommend that is great in these areas? I live in Utrecht West (but open to travel to the other side of Utrecht if needed).

Ik ga de laatste 9 maanden consistent naar de sportschool voor krachttraining.

Het idee was 3x kracht 2x cardio in de week te doen maar ik vind apparaten zoals de loopband/stairmaster etc zo ontiegelijk saai.

Ik wil mijn cardio dus buiten de sportschool doen, wat zijn volgens jullie de leukste (lange afstand?) routes

Waarom zijn er in vredesnaam zoveel kappers en beautysalons op de Amsterdamsestraatweg? Toen ik erlangs reed, heb ik er zeker wel twintig geteld. Dat voelt toch bijna alsof er iets niet klopt, of zie ik dat verkeerd?

Hoi allemaal, ik vind het leuk om mijn vriendengroep wat uit te breiden op verschillende manier. O.a. om de meerdere boardspellen eindelijk eens te gaan spelen. Zo heb ik slay the spire, arkham horror, spirit island, Scythe en meer staan. Ideaal om met een biertje erbij te spelen! Dus mocht iemand het leuk vinden dan lijkt mij dat gezellig! (en ja, je kunt naar een groep gaan, maar vind het thuis wat fijner qua sfeer en setting).

Nog iets over mij: 43 en ik woon in leidsche rijn en werk bij de overheid. Ik lees graag fantasy en sci-fi maar ook wel filosofie, psychologie en geschiedenis). Verder staat de BBQ vaak aan, ga ik graag naar Tivoli en sport ik graag.

A while ago I saw the stat that around 1 in 2 renters are overcharged for their home, which absolutely amazed me. It put me on a quest to build a tool specifically for expats and foreign students to check if their landlord is overcharging them (because we all love getting one over on a 'huisjesmelker'). I found the official Huurcommissie website to be pretty complicated and a bad experience to use.

As I was working on it, I decided it needed to do more than just calculate maximum rent to set it apart from similar sites, so I integrated several other tools as well and I've linked to the sources for all statements (the applicable laws and such) wherever I can.

On my site, DutchRentCheck.nl, you can use the following six tools for free:

- Check if you are overpaying for your rent (both for 'independent dwellings' (mostly expats) as well as 'shared rooms' (mostly students)

- Check if your deposit is not above the legal limit

- Calculate if your landlord isn't increasing your rent above the legal cap

- See if your landlord isn't screwing you on service costs

- Demand letter generator to create letters in Dutch that you can send to your landlord with all information generated as you type.

On top of that there are guides and a glossary explaining the basics of the rules as well as a glossary that translates the most commonly used Dutch terms into English.

The math should all be correct for the different calculations, but of course there is a small chance I made a mistake somewhere. If I did, please reach out to me and I will fix it. Please also let me know if I messed up in any other way as well, I'm happy to take any advice or suggestions for changes or add-ons.

FYI, all calculations are done in your browser, no data about rent and such gets sent to a server so I will never see any of that. The only that I collect is Google Analytics, and that can be declined as per GDPR.

If one of my tools has helped you save money, please consider donating to keep it going.

PS: As is mentioned on several occasions on the website, the website does provide official legal advice and it's always good to check with Stichting Woon and/or the Huurcommissie, but I think as a first check this is a way better option than the convoluted Huurcommissie tool.
