On May 15th, 1986 at around 6:30 AM in Virginia Beach, Virginia the body of 22 year old Roberta Walls was discovered behind in a field behind Old Donation Elementary School. Officers during the investigation discovered Walls had been stabbed multiple times and assaulted by an unknown offender. Prior to her death investigators learned she was last seen the previous night hanging out with friends at the library near the field she was found, and was last heard from around midnight after calling a friend. The case was active for over 40 years with investigators in Virginia beach crediting the ID with the evolution of DNA technology over the years.

The case had a break through when investigators in 2017 received the funding to submit DNA from the 1986 crime scene to a lab in North Virginia which specializes in DNA identification. The DNA pulled allowed the lab to make a composite DNA photo profile of what the suspect may have looked like back in 1986 with it being a white man in his 20s with light eyes, freckles and dark hair. The DNA recovered allowed investigators to rule out multiple different suspects in the investigation and eventually a match with the DNA was made. It was announced on May 19th by officers in Virginia that they had arrested 66 year old Charles Randell Barry on May 18, 2026 in Newington, Connecticut in connection with the case. Barry has been charged with murder, and assault and is currently awaiting extradition and would have been in his 20’s at the time of the murder.

Investigators are planning a press conference for Wednesday the 20th and have not disclosed how Barry and Walls are connected to each other.

A 40 year old cold case in Washington has been solved, as it has been announced the killer of Carol Traicoff has been identified as Henry Leland, through DNA evidence.

In May of 1986, 35 year old Carol Traicoff was found beaten to death behind the Stanley Civic Center in Wenatchee, WA. Her death was classified as "homicidal assault".

Unfortunately, the forensic technology available in the 1980s and 1990s was not able to provide any links to Traicoff's killer.

With the rise of online genealogy, Washington law enforcement was able to search for DNA connections to Traicoff's killer through that. They also shared the evidence with Canadian law enforcement, so a search could be done through Canada's systems, as well.

That DNA evidence and genealogy search eventually led to Henry Leland. Leland spent his final years living on the streets of Kamloops, BC, and he died there in 2007 at the age of 56. Leland's DNA and connection to the case were confirmed after detectives were able to find Leland's sister, and she gave them a comparative DNA sample.

Henry Leland House (a supportive housing building) was opened in Kamloops in 2009, and was named as such to recognize Leland's "kind soul".

However, the process to re-name the building has now begun, as the housing society executive officer has announced he will seek community input regarding a new name.

In order to verify the veracity of the anonymous comment regarding camp winoka, to the best of my ability anyway, because what do I know.

The comment provides a name, age, and the name of a street. The comment also claims one of the witnesses committed suicide within a time frame. Of course nothing is for sure and it could be an act, but I was able to confirm someone by that name, of that age, lived on that street which lined up with the other location described in the comment. And that person did commit suicide within the timeframe alleged.

About what was allegedly witnessed, I'll just share what stuck out to me personally. The commenter described a chaotic scene, after dark, at camp winoka, involving three women and more than one man. All of whom had arrived in the same van. One of the unknown women sounded like she had been thrown into the back of the van, the sound was so loud. All three of them, especially Suzie and her mother, were small enough for a man of moderate strength to pick up and throw just like that.

And that brings me to a post here on reddit, about an alleged sighting at a gas station that checks enough boxes to make it seem like either the same person wrote both the reddit post and the anonymous comment on the other website, or there's more truth than lie. The gas station involved three women and three women, traveling in a van. The time of night and location also make sense in the larger picture.

Trevor John Bilodeau (known locally as Captain Trevor) has been missing from Clearwater, Florida since January 23, 2025. Despite being registered in federal missing persons databases, his case currently has zero mainstream media coverage.

Because his disappearance has completely slipped under the radar of local news desks, I am going to do my best to provide as much details as possible, while being respectful of those surrounding Trevor. That being said, the information provided is a combination of verified information (NamUs) and crowd sourcing. I believe this will be the first publicly accessible inspection of his case. Hopefully, Google's search engines will pick up flag words for anyone looking for this individual.

Trevor relocated to Pinellas county Florida in 2021, moving from the New England area. This date is provided by his Flordia voters registration. Trevor has life long connections to New England, graduating from the University of New Hampshire in May of 2010 (The Keen Sentinel, May 30, 2010). He attended Keen Highschool in Keen, New Hampshire, he was a part of the class of 99'.

In New Hampshire, Trevor Bilodeau was an active member of his community. Sometime around 2017(Unsure when this business started) he was the owner of "Wagging Tails" dog walking and pet sitting, a commercial service operating heavily across the Concord and Pembroke areas up until his relocation. He was well-known in regional animal welfare circles, including local animal shelter events. A photo in 2017 shows him and his son at the Manchester Animal Shelter's 2017 Mutt Strutt Event. I wasn't able to find a trustworthy source for this information but one source stated he was a local bartender in Concord as well.

It's important to note that New Hampshire was not the only other state listed in his address history. I was able to find facebook comments where he discussed Vermont as well. He may also have stayed in Massachusetts and other surrounding states.

After Trevor's relocation to Florida in February of 2021, he resided at an apartment complex along US highway 19.

In November of 2022, he registered his business SEA PARADISE CHARTERS LLC.

In 2023, Trevor marries an individual who I will not name, as I'm not sure it's ethical to do so. I will note that the name isn't hard to find, but any information regarding this person is.

During Trevor's time in Florida he would work in several "Tour Boat Operations" as his alias "Captain Trevor.". Trevor holds a Master United States Coast Guard (USCG) License. Under his LLC, he ran commercial dolphin sightings, sandbar swims, and sunset cruises. He operated a large, distinct white-and-teal tour catamaran directly out of the Clearwater Beach Municipal Marina.

He worked for two other Tour Boat Operations which are still up and running: Fins Up Clearwater and Cruisin Tikis Clearwater.

It's important to note, that his LLC Sea Paradise Charters LLCs website and informational services have been dissolved. The remains of his business are bits and pieces spread out over Instagram and Facebook.

Trevor worked at Fins Up Clearwater presumably until his disappearance.

Details about the circumstances of his disappearance are unknown. However, Trevor did join a Facebook group around December 9th, 2024 called "St. Petersburg Roommates: Rooms for Rent & Roommate Finder". Digging through the Facebook group, there is no useful information, it's mostly filled with Bots and AI.

Months after his disappearance, a formal missing persons report was filed with Flordia Law Enforcement in August of 2025.

In September of 2025, his business was officially dissolved for failing to report in 2025. His last report was made in May of 2024.

In October of 2025, his Wife filed to dissolve their marriage. The source for this is verifiable as it comes from official newspaper archives. It appears because the state could not locate him, they posted publicly in the newspaper.

Trevor John Bilodeau also loved saltwater fishing. His Instagram profile features many, many photos of him on the water, and posing with fish. I was able to find an informational booklet where it seems he joined some sort of leaderboard or club for salt water fishing.

Trevor seemed to bring a strong and electric vibe to every event he worked. His Facebook page, Instagram accounts feature many photos of him with people he would sail with or take on his many dolphin tours. When looking through the reviews at his place of employment he has countless 5 star reviews, where folks compliment his energy and even pose with him for pictures.

Due to Trevor's highly public lifestyle, I find it astonishing how little information is out about his story.

Thanks to all the people who have taken pictures with Trevor, I was able to compile several much high quality photos of Him. Including the most recent photo I was able to find, taken around September of 2024. I do not know if it was actually September however, since Google reviews do not provide actual dates. I was able to estimate it however based on the context of the reviews surrounding the original review. Mentions of Hurricane Helen came up, which as a survivor of the storm myself, I remember that it specifically struck in September.

Trevor also has a phone number connected (Somehow, I couldn't really decipher how) to his name on sites like Truthfinder and Whitepages that are featured on old rave flyers. I was able to find this out thanks to the folks on a Facebook group where they preserve old flyers.

Something that stands out to me is, the most recent photo of him. He appears to have put on weight suddenly. This could indicate stress.

There are definitely a few strange details here. My main question is why is the media and state not more open about this case?

The rest of his family history is particularly hard to track (atleast for me) and I can't seem to find any posts from family or friends about his disappearance. Honestly anything you all can do will help. I'm not involved in the case, I just noticed him today and felt moved to tell others. I'm hoping to get his name out, as he's incredibly public, so others should know him.

On July 31st, 2001 in Frankfurt, Germany in the early afternoon the body of an unidentified female Jane Doe was discovered wrapped in a bedspread and weighed down by a parasol stand floating in the River of Main in the Neid part of Frankfurt. The victim was reported to be between the ages of 15-16 years old with the cause of death later determined to be blunt force trauma with signs of mistreatment and torture. It was determined by investigators her time of death was around 3 days before being dumped in the river, having been dumped about 12-14 hours before the discovery.

For nearly 25 years the body was unidentified however investigators with an international police organization launched a campaign called Identify Me which began in 2023 and is a task force meant to help identify, unidentified Jane Doe’s across several countries including Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, and Spain. In 2024 a black notice alert was issued by Interpol with hope of bringing new life to the case in addition to adding the case to the Identify Me campaign.

The campaign’s worked as an update in this case was announced today that the Jane Doe had been identified as 16 year old Diana S. The announcement also led to confirmation by investigators that her 67 year old father a German National was arrested on May 12th, 2026 by German authorities on suspicion of murder and is on pre trial detention. The identification is the sixth case using the Identify Me campaign which led to a Jane Doe being identified. The campaign is currently looking at over 41 cases of Jane Doe’s across Germany with the hope being that with further campaigning more identifications can be made in the other cases.

Today I'd like to cover another disturbing disappearance case.

BACKGROUND

Allen Fischer and his sister, Rachelle Fischer, were respectively 13 and 15 when they went missing from Monteview, Idaho, USA.

The two siblings lived with their mother, Elizabeth Roundy, in Monteview.

The three used to belong to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS). In 2014, Elizabeth was separated from her children as a way to make her "repent" for having a miscarriage. She was only allowed to return to them after five years, and when she wanted to get her children back, Elizabeth has been instantly branded as an apostate- when that happens, the family is to cease any contact with that person. Allegedly, "inappropriate practical jokes" were played on Allen and Rachelle when they were away from Elizabeth. Elizabeth says that her children were "brainwashed" to believe that she is a "bad person".

After moving to Idaho, Elizabeth got into an 18-month long custody battle with the children's father, Nephi Fischer, and gained full custody of Allen, Rachelle, and their older sister Elintra in 2021. Since then, Nephi has allegedly tried to regain custody multiple times.

Elintra Dee Fischer, Allen and Rachelle's older sister, went missing on the 1st of January 2023 at the age of 17. She took "the vehicle" (I'm assuming Elizabeth's car?) and left it along the route with a note to Elizabeth that said that she was leaving to return to FLDS, and that she will pay for the gas she used up to get to where she abandoned the car. After leaving the car, Elintra must've gotten another vehicle or a ride from someone else who took her to her destination.

Elizabeth said that her relationship with her children was "close", especially in recent months- Allen would often sleep on the couch in her room, and Elizabeth often shared her bed with Rachelle, who suffered from frequent nightmres.

DISAPPEARANCE

Allen and Rachelle were last seen at 7 PM on the 22nd of June.

It's believed that the siblings were taken "between 6 PM and 8 PM", when Elizabeth was attending a family Bible class. Before she left, the siblings asked if they could go to "the shop" (I'm not sure what is meant by that exactly) to watch videos online when their mother was gone. When Elizabeth returned home at about 9 PM, Allen and Rachelle were gone. It's theorized that they were taken by Elintra to "fulfill their religious obligations", as they likely believed that it was their salvation and that they will be damned for eternity if they won't.

Elizabeth claims that she saw their estranged family's cars drive by their home and the shop the children went to on the 22nd of June for about a month before her children went missing. She believes that the three of them were being watched, and that the family was waiting for the right moment to take Allen and Rachelle.

It's believed that the siblings went into a gray Honda sedan with Utah plates and were taken to their sister's (most likely Elintra's) house in Mendon, Utah, about 10 miles (16.1 km) outside of Logan.

Allen and Rachelle were reported missing on the 22nd of June at 8:48 PM by Elisabeth.

Elizabeth believes that her children were taken in response to alarming statements made in August of 2022 by Warren Jeffs- a disgraced FLDS leader who is currently serving a life sentence in Texas for child sexual assault (at the time of his arrest, he had 24 underaged "wives") . His recent "revelation" claims that all FLDS children have to die in order to be reborn as "pure beings". Jeffs and other FLDS leaders have told their followers to retrieve their children "by any means necessary" to help the cult prepare for the "end of times"- the children are supposed to be "gathered" to assist in "building Zion", where they will then die and become "pure", "translated" beings. The children will then allegedly resurrect like Jesus Christ did, in two and a half/three days. It's believed that the current leadership of the FLDS church is leading the followers to the similar fates suffered by people who died in Jonestown or Waco.

Allen and Rachelle most likely didn't take off by themselves- the compound is in the middle of the desert with no bus or train access, so they were almost certainly picked up by an FLDS member with a car.

On the 23rd of June, an Amber Alert for the siblings was issued after police found out about Jeffs' 2022 revelation.

The Idaho State Police were unsure if the children have left the immediate area of their home or if they were still close by. They also said that the grey Honda “has not travelled to Idaho during the time that Rachelle and Allen went missing”, but the story about them being taken by an older sibling is still considered true. Elizabeth believes that whoever took her children might've been lying in wait somewhere close by untill the situation died down, and then took them out of state.

CONCLUSION

While the FLDS and LDS (also known as Mormons) share the similar origin and history, the two groups have no formal or official connection.

A tip submitted to The Uvalde Foundation for Kids said that the siblings might be in Fredonia, Arizona, which is just 10 minutes away from Kanab, Utah. In 2024, multiple FLDS children from Utah were relocated to Fredonia- for example, there was a case of three siblings who were missing from Beaver, Utah, who were relocated to Fredonia by their father, a member of FLDS, who was assisted by other members of the church. Ground searches were conducted in reaction to the tip, but Allen and Rachelle haven't been located.

Very recently, on the 1st of May 2026, it's been revealed that Elintra has officially obtained a driver's license in Utah at some point, and in consequence she has been removed from the NCIC's missing person database. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is interested in speaking with Elintra in relation to Allen's and Rachelle's disappearance.

There is a $5000 reward for "information leading to the safe return of Rachelle and Allen".

Allen Larand Fischer was 13 when he went missing and will be 14 near the end of May 2026. He is a white boy, 5’9” (175 cm) and 135 pounds (61 kg). He had longer sandy blonde hair and has blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and black slip-on shoes resembling Crocs.

Rachelle Leray Fischer was 15 when she went missing and will be 16 in June 2026. She is a white girl, 5’5” (165 cm) 135 pounds (61 kg). She has brown hair that she kept in braids and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a green prairie dress.

TLDR: Sky King was heavily into his faith which puts a lot of pressure on men to provide for their families. His specific church believed this and those around him did and this apparent fact has never been deeply explored, especially by the FBI. By not exploring it, we leave many stones unturned and potentially don’t understand the source of his pain, which could hurt other men. 

Most people think they know the story of Richard “Beebo” Russell. I have been following this sad tale ever since it happened, since it is at the intersection of aviation and faith, two topics that I have long been interested in. In case anyone is wondering, my interest preceded the recent Hulu documentary, which I did watch with great interest.

I often find in life, like the late and highly controversial Donald Rumsfeld, that sometimes you have to look at what is not said, what questions are not asked, and consider what you do not know. 

“As we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say, we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know,” Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, 2002. Now I’m not a fan of Rumsfeld, but he is on to something here. Sometimes there are hidden truths in the unknown. Things that are important to understand, but are missing. The worst offenders are those things we need to know but do not know. 

The story of Beebo goes like this. On August 10, 2018, a Horizon Air (Alaska Air owned) employee ground service employee named Richard “Beebo” Russell, stole a Bombardier Q400 commuter turboprop from Sea-Tac Airport. For 75 minutes, he flew around the Seattle area, before intentionally crashing into a remote island. The FBI issued a 567 page report into the matter, which was very serious, because while he was in the air, nobody knew his intentions, beyond what he was verbally saying, which was to not harm anyone. The FBI concluded that there was no single reason for his actions - but bear in mind, this was the 2018 FBI, and it is known that this was an FBI very reluctant to look at certain things, particularly Christianity. 

During the flight, Beebo complained about the hard life of a ramp service worker briefly, had fun at times, but also said he was just a broken guy with a few screws loose. He also reportedly texted his wife that she deserves better.

We know that Beebo had owned a bakery with his wife Hannah Russell before selling it to be closer to Hannah’s family, the Stracener family of Sumner, Washington. We also know that he attended Gateway Chapel in Sumner, Washington, headed by Pastor David Odell, who was asked in the aftermath not to speak about Richard Russell. This is just one of many instances of the Hannah’s family, the Straceners, being secretive. They also declined to participate in the recent Hulu documentary and Hannah herself cut off contact with Beebo’s family, or so it has been reported. The Straceners are very quiet and Hannah has never given a direct interview, which is strange in cases like this.

“David Odell, pastor at Russell’s Auburn church, also declined to discuss Russell, citing the family’s wishes. “In the statement where it says it’s a complete shock, it’s just 100 percent true,” Odell said, as reported in the Seattle Times. 

So everyone thinks that Beebo simply snapped and took a plan for a joyride. However, I propose this theory, based on the evidence:

1. Beebo and Hannah meet at a church function in Oregon when they are both going to school.
2. They get married.
3. They are both heavily involved in evangelical christianity, including CRU, Young Life and later Gateway Church, a small church that bounces around Washington before settling in Sumner, Washington, where Hannah’s family lives. The pastor at the time that Beebo and Hannah are attending is David Odell. 
4. Beebo and Hannah are running a bakery in North Bend, Oregon. Eventually, they sell to be closer to Hannah’s family in Sumner, Washington. Beebo had wanted to move to Alaska, but Hannah was not on board. 
5. Beebo goes from being a respected business owner, to being a low paid ground service agent for Horizon, making literally less than a McDonald’s worker.. As I will lay out as you read on, this created stress for Beebo, because his faith calls him to be a provider. “But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever,” 1 Timothy 5:8
6. Hannah’s family and the church and perhaps Hannah herself, pressure Beebo to be more than he is, and this pressure, along with working like an absolute dog at the airport, drive him to end it all. He was a bit of a goofy guy, married to a perfectionist (this was reported in interviews about their bakery in Oregon) and was crushed by the weight of the church’s expectations and perhaps the Stracener family.

The family statement after the fact simply reaffirmed their belief in God. There was very little if anything in the way of empathy towards his specific situation. “We are devastated by these events and Jesus is truly the only one holding this family together right now,” a family spokesperson read, before mentioning Jesus again, thanking him for his holy steadfast love. Lots of Jesus; no comment on his specific complaints about low pay or anything else. The Straceners followed up this feeling of keeping the family together under Jesus by cutting off Beebo’s family. 

So why should we care? There are approximately 80 million Christian men in the United States. In my own personal dealings with these men, many are somewhat reserved, and it is clear to me, since some have been my friends, that more lies beneath. As the economy continues to crush men (and women) it will be harder and harder for these men to make the grade called upon by their faith and those around them. Traditional families were often built under economic conditions that were possible in the past, but due to the relentless desire of the 1 percent to extract as much value out of us peons as possible, success is not always possible at the same level as it was for those men’s role models. 

I now need to back up my theory, which to be clear is just that, a theory. Had the FBI done the type of job they would have done if Beebo was Muslim, for example, or even Sheik, we would not be here right now. 

David Odell was, according to the Seattle Times, Beebo’s pastor. So what does David believe? What was he filling Beebo and Hannah’s head with? Fortunately, dear reader, we can get a good sense of this from Calvary Church in The Dalles, Oregon, where he is the head pastor today.

“We believe the Bible is God’s absolute, objective truth for all people for all times. It is without error in concept or detail in the original writings. It is breathed out in its entirety by God, divinely preserved, and, therefore, trustworthy,” reads the church’s website. Message me for links if you like, Reddit does not play nice with links so I don’t include them here. What Odell’s church is saying, is that everything in the Bible should be taken literally. This means when 1st Timorthy told Beebo that he was a worse than a non-believer for not providing enough, that was absolute truth. This might be why Beebo messaged Hannah mid-flight that she “deserved better.”

A sermon of Odell’s church where he is head pastor stated a year ago that men have a “responsibility to lead protect and provide for his wife.” There really is no daylight here in faiths that practice biblical literalness. The man MUST provide and that is a primary way in which he is judged. Beebo likely felt judged and that here was a test, from on high, that he was failing. 

The church where Beebo’s funeral was held in August 2018, also believes in the same things. Lighthouse Christian Center recommends Stu Weber’s book, Four Pillars of a Man’s Heart, which pushes men hard to be “kings” of their own domain, which is their family and home. Loading bags onto planes does not accomplish this. Beebo was working at Horizon primarily for free flights to Alaska, where his family was. It’s not hard to imagine a traditional God fearing family like the Straceners being ashamed of a husband who works alongside the “dregs” of society in their eyes to make a pittance loading baggage. 

What is the point of this? To suggest that Beebo’s story is not just about low pay, but about how faith often fails those who are mentally ill. You can’t pray away depression, at least not in a lasting way. Beebo needed help, and those who were around him, especially on Hannah’s side, may not have been ready to provide. Or I could be totally one hundred percent wrong here. This is also possible. But I doubt I’m not at least somewhat right. There should be a reckoning in the Christian community based on this and other incidents. But that cannot happen if people can’t talk freely, if they can’t question the bible, and if they hide behind a wall of silence, as it appears the Straceners are doing right now. Saying he was just a guy who snapped is likely leaving out the very important nuance of the environment that created his mindset. It deserves exploration.

Church beliefs

On June 24, 1955, border guards near Oravska Polhora, Czechoslovakia, stopped a young man wandering alone close to the Polish border. He carried no identification. He communicated only through writing and sign language. He said his name was Karel Novak, that he had been deaf and mute since birth, and that he remembered very little of his past.

Every part of that was a lie. The Czechoslovak secret police (StB) would spend the next 26 years trying to find out what the truth was. They never did.

Who was Karel Novak?

That question was never answered. What the StB documented over 26 years, in case file N-44 (archive reference V-1541 MV, held at the Czech Security Services Archive), is what we know with certainty:

• He was fluent in Czech, Slovak, German, English, Polish and Russian, with conversational French and Italian
• He was not deaf or mute. He maintained the pretense for years before claiming his hearing "returned" after a car accident
• His military knowledge was exceptional. During mandatory army service he ranked as the best marksman in his unit, operated tanks, and was observed photographing military installations
• A 1962 psychiatric evaluation ruled out psychosis, schizophrenia and amnesia. The report described him as "a psychological anomaly showing psychopathic signs, of above average intelligence"
• No birth record for a Karel Novak matching his claimed details was ever found in Radhosst or anywhere else in Czechoslovakia
• In 2018, journalist Jaroslav Mares discovered that the address listed on his official documents did not exist

He was never identified. Not by witnesses, not by a public documentary the StB released in 1972, not by a feature film in 1976, not after the fall of communism.

The timeline

June 1955 - Detained at the border near Oravska Polhora. Claims to be deaf-mute with amnesia. Held for six months in Prague, interrogated and tortured. Released in December 1955 due to lack of evidence.

1955-1961 - Placed under StB surveillance. Informant Frantisek Veis befriends him over several years. Novak eventually confides that he can hear and speak, and that he is the illegitimate son of Otto von Habsburg, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. He joins the Communist Party in 1957 and the Czechoslovak army, where his skills raise immediate suspicion.

May 1961 - Arrested for espionage and conspiracy. At this point he stops claiming the name Karel Novak and simply states he does not know who he is. He is injected with amphetamine during interrogation. He does not break. A woman named Teofila Grabowska from Krakow identifies him from photographs as her son Florian Grabowski, deported to Auschwitz and presumed dead. She retracts the identification upon meeting him in person. Some historians believe she lied to protect him.

1962 - Sentenced to 12 years in a political detention center. Three StB informants are placed among his fellow inmates. Their reports describe him as quiet, disciplined, and deeply well-read. He spends his time reading and playing chess alone.

1969 - Released on good behavior. Moves to Kladno near Prague. Works as a bus driver. His neighbors call him Karel Spion - Karel the Spy. When anyone mentions the documentary or the film made about him, he smiles and says: "Yeah, that's about me."

November 17, 1981 - Dies at a friend's apartment. Official cause: cardiac arrest. No toxic substance found. He was days away from a planned re-arrest related to alleged association with dissidents connected to Vaclav Havel's circle. His apartment showed signs of having been searched before the StB arrived. Some belongings were coated in an unidentified chemical substance. A radio transmitter capable of receiving foreign signals was found.

He was buried as Karel Novak. His real name is still unknown.

The theories

Spy or intelligence asset. The circumstantial case is strong - six languages, elite training, a radio transmitter, interest in military sites. But no intelligence service ever claimed him. He never attempted to flee. He survived decades of surveillance and interrogation without a single verifiable contact. Spies typically have an exit. He did not.

War criminal or witness in hiding. Someone who needed to disappear after 1945. He once told a woman he tried to marry that "before he was arrested he wanted to go to Austria" and that during the war "he had to dig himself up from a pile of bodies." Prison informants noted he was strongly opposed to antisemitism and speculated he might be Jewish.

The Habsburg claim. Told directly to informant Veis, who was trusted enough that Novak dropped his deaf-mute performance for him. Impossible to verify. Could be misdirection. Could be genuine.

Florian Grabowski. The Krakow identification that collapsed in person. Some historians believe Teofila Grabowska recognized her son but denied it out of fear. Novak showed no recognition of her either - though that proves nothing.

Before he died, Novak described his own situation to an interrogator this way:

>"In the first case, there would be a man who's sold out and works for the enemy. In that case, that man would be normal. In the second case, there's an innocent man but then the man is not normal. In any way, there's no way out for him."

Where the case stands

The file was reviewed after the fall of communism in 1989. Nothing was resolved. In 2018, journalist Jaroslav Mares confirmed that the address Novak gave authorities in 1955 had never existed. The ABS has published an academic paper on the case based on the original StB files.

No DNA has been collected. No genealogical investigation comparable to the Somerton Man case (resolved in 2022) has been publicly announced.

Questions for discussion

The detail that has never been satisfactorily explained to me is the choice to stay. If he was a spy, fleeing was an option he apparently never took. If he was in hiding, Czechoslovakia under an active communist surveillance apparatus seems like an extraordinarily dangerous place to choose. What do you think kept him there?

For the past several decades, Indigenous women in the Cabot Square area of Montreal have faced extensive violence, trafficking, and exploitation, at the hands of a serial predator. This predator has been tied to the deaths of at least 3 Inuit women, who were all found dead by hanging in this same area of Montreal. In a follow-up investigative piece to these women's deaths, this man told the media "the best way to make an Inuit disappear is to make it look like a suicide".

On July 31^(st), 2001, hikers near the Main River in Germany found the body of an unidentified teenage girl. Investigators believed that she was around 15 to 16 years old. She weighed about 85lbs and had long dark brown hair.

The autopsy found that she died from multiple organ failure. She had older injuries that had healed before her death, including fractures in both arms that had not been treated properly. There were signs of past injuries and possible long-term mistreatment.

She also showed signs of very limited dental care, and no erupted wisdom teeth were observed, which helped estimate her age.

Isotope testing suggested she may have spent her early childhood in a region consistent with Afghanistan, Pakistan, or northern India, and she likely lived in Germany for years before her death.

She was found wrapped and weighted down in the river. Among the items used were braided drawstring belts known as nalas, which are traditionally used in parts of South Asia.

Police circulated flyers widely across Germany and internationally in an effort to identify her, but no confirmed matches were ever found.

At one point, investigators considered whether she might have been working in a private household, possibly in a diplomatic context, but this did not lead to an identification.

She was later included in INTERPOL’s Operation Identify Me; a campaign focused on identifying unidentified victims across Europe.

More than two decades later, she still has not been identified.

My theory is that she may have been hidden within a household, experienced long-term abuse, then died, and her body was placed in the river to conceal her identity.

On April 17th, 2026 in Keene, New Hampshire police responded to a 911 call about possible skeletal human remains being found near the American Legion building located on Court Street. Investigators took the skeletal remains into their possession and turned them over to the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner who began the process of trying to make an ID. Nearly a month after the discovery, on May 14th it was announced by investigators that they had identified the remains as belonging to missing 48 year old Brenda Kenney who went missing from Keene sometime in late July of 2022 and was last heard from on July 19th, 2022.

Officers didn’t reveal a cause or manner of death for Kenney which is still pending, only saying that the case didn’t seem suspicious at this time. She was reported to have left her home in Keene, on foot sometime between her last contact on the 19th before being reported missing on July 25th to law enforcement. During the announcement of the ID investigators thanked other departments including Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation and State Police for assisting in the investigation and recovery effort.

One I often think of is the case of the half of a human brain found in a waste water treatment plant in Bethlehem, PA. It’s been 26 years now and it’s never been determined who the brain belonged to, or how they died.

Another obscure case—one that’s local to me—is the disappearance of Por Soua Her. There’s little information on the circumstances of her disappearance available online; all we really know is the date she was last seen (March 12, 2002) and the fact her car was found abandoned about a week after she was reported missing. Nothing more than that really—I’ve seen a few scattered posts from her relatives on Facebook but that’s about it.

Rodney Barger, also known as “Rawn Beauty,” was the vocalist and founding member of the Detroit hardcore band Cold as Life.

On September 15, 1993, Barger was shot three times and killed while sleeping. He was only 23 years old. His roommate, Richard Werstine, was arrested in connection with the case shortly after the murder, but was later released for reasons that were never publicly disclosed. Werstine failed to appear for his arraignment hearing, and a warrant was issued for his arrest in 1994, making him a fugitive.

According to several sources, Werstine traveled through multiple states over the years, including Arizona and Michigan. He was reportedly arrested on other charges, including firearm-related offenses, but consistently used false identities to avoid detection.

The case was eventually assigned to the U.S. Marshals Service’s Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team in 2022. Investigators developed information suggesting Werstine may have been living in Panama.

On April 29, 2026, the U.S. Marshals Service, working alongside Diplomatic Security Service and Homeland Security Investigations, with assistance from Panama’s National Police Intelligence Directorate and National Migration Service, arrested Werstine while he was walking his dog in a local park in Panama City.

At the time of his arrest, Werstine was carrying false identification documents. However, investigators were able to confirm his identity through fingerprint analysis.

Authorities stated that Werstine admitted to entering Panama illegally in 2005. He had built a quiet life there, reportedly marrying and living under the radar as an ordinary citizen without ever obtaining legal immigration status.

Richard Werstine has since been extradited back to the United States, where he will face second-degree murder charges in connection with Barger’s death. Barger left behind a two-year-old daughter.

Barger’s daughter, Zoeie Mendez, later reacted publicly to the news of the arrest. She said she never truly expected the day would come when someone would finally be taken into custody for her father’s murder. In interviews, she stated that although her father was not perfect, she believed he had been trying to turn his life around before he was killed.

Cold as Life has not released any public statement regarding the arrest. However, in a 2013 documentary clip, the band’s manager said:

Gretchen Fleming disappeared from a Parkersburg, WV bar on the night of December 4th, 2022. She was last seen leaving the bar with the man that was eventually arrested. Preston Pierce was arrested in Asheville, NC and charged with her murder and kidnapping.

Police basically zeroed in on Pierce immediately after the disappearance. Gretchen was seen leaving the bar with Pierce. The issue was the lack of evidence. Police searched Pierce’s Parkersburg residence within weeks, but apparently found nothing.

Gretchen’s remains were found in a remote area in a neighboring county during a September 2025 search. Genetic testing returned a match and Pierce was arrested.

As a local, it’s great to see a resolution to this. Gretchen’s disappearance never left the consciousness of the area. You can still drive through town and see Find Gretchen Fleming sings in yards.

For people unfamiliar with the case:

In 2008, a 14-year-old girl named Aarushi Talwar was found murdered in her bedroom in Noida, India. The family’s live-in domestic help, Hemraj, was initially suspected — until his own body was discovered on the terrace of the house the next day.

The case quickly became one of the most infamous murder investigations in India because of the bizarre circumstances, the contradictory forensic evidence, and the massive media frenzy surrounding it.

Over time, the investigation shifted toward Aarushi’s parents, Dr. Rajesh and Dr. Nupur Talwar, with the prosecution claiming they killed both Aarushi and Hemraj in a fit of rage after allegedly finding them in an “objectionable position.” The parents were convicted in 2013, but later acquitted by the Allahabad High Court in 2017 due to lack of evidence and major flaws in the investigation.

To this day, nobody officially knows who killed Aarushi and Hemraj.

But after reading deeply into the forensic details and inconsistencies in the case, I genuinely don’t think the parents did it.

Here’s why.

I genuinely don’t think Aarushi Talwar’s parents killed her — and the more I read about the case, the less the official theory makes sense.

I know this is one of those cases where people have very strong opinions, but if you actually look at the forensic details and the timeline instead of the media narrative, there are just too many holes in the “parents did it” theory.

Here’s why I can’t buy it.

First of all — Hemraj was almost certainly not killed in Aarushi’s room.

There was no meaningful trace of his blood or DNA found there, and when his body was discovered on the terrace, he still had his slippers on. That’s important because it suggests he walked there himself. If he had supposedly been attacked in Aarushi’s room first, there’s no way he casually gets up and walks to the terrace afterward.

Also, the injury to Hemraj matters. He was hit on the back of the head. That implies he either trusted the attacker or didn’t see it coming. If the parents supposedly caught him in some “objectionable position” with Aarushi, as the CBI theorized, why would he calmly turn his back on them while they went to fetch a golf club? In a real emotional confrontation, people yell, panic, grab the nearest object, create noise. They don’t quietly leave the room, find a weapon, come back, and then the other person just stands there waiting.

Then there’s the blood evidence.

Aarushi’s blood was found on some items in the parents’ room, which honestly makes sense considering she was discovered there and they interacted with the body. But where was Hemraj’s blood? If they killed BOTH people, how is there no forensic crossover? No blood transfer from Hemraj on their clothes? No trace? Nothing?

And this is where the whole “meticulous cleanup” theory completely falls apart for me.

We’re supposed to believe the parents:

\\- killed two people,

\\- cleaned the entire crime scene,

\\- removed the murder weapons,

\\- disposed of both phones,

\\- cleaned away forensic traces,

\\- staged everything…

…but somehow forgot:

\\- a blood-stained whisky bottle sitting in the living room,

\\- and a bloody handprint on the terrace door?

That makes absolutely no sense.

Either they were criminal masterminds or they weren’t. You can’t argue both.

And the whisky bottle itself is one of the weirdest pieces of evidence in the whole case.

It reportedly had Aarushi’s blood on it and an unidentified fingerprint/palm print that did NOT belong to either parent.

Think about the implication of that for a second.

If Aarushi’s blood was already on the bottle, then someone handled or consumed alcohol AFTER she was attacked.

So according to the parents-did-it theory, they:

1. killed their daughter,

2. calmly sat down for a drink,

3. then went upstairs to kill Hemraj?

I’m sorry but psychologically that sounds absurd unless they were complete psychopaths — and there’s absolutely nothing about their history or behavior that suggests that.

The terrace handprint is another thing that never gets talked about enough.

There was literally a bloody handprint on the terrace door near where Hemraj’s body was found. As far as I know, it was never matched to the Talwars. So whose was it? Why wasn’t that aggressively pursued?

And then there are the phones.

Hemraj’s phone was reportedly answered briefly the next morning. If the parents were trying to cover up the crime, why on earth would they even risk carrying the phone around and answering it? What would be the purpose? To create confusion? That’s an insanely convoluted thing to do in the middle of a panic cover-up after murdering your own child.

The motive also just feels incredibly weak.

The entire prosecution theory hinges on this idea that Aarushi and Hemraj were involved in some inappropriate relationship. But there was never actual evidence of that. No messages, no witness accounts, nothing concrete.

And honestly, the idea itself feels implausible.

Aarushi was a 14-year-old girl with a normal school life and friends her own age. Why would she suddenly develop intimacy with a middle-aged house help old enough to be her grandfather? The entire thing felt built on insinuation and sensationalism rather than evidence.

Also worth mentioning:

both parents reportedly showed no deception in narco-analysis and lie detector tests. I know those aren’t admissible proof and aren’t scientifically perfect, but still — combined with everything else, it matters.

The biggest issue for me is this:

The prosecution’s case was basically:

“Since we can’t figure out who else did it, it must have been the parents.”

That’s not evidence. That’s elimination through assumption.

Personally, I think the original CBI theory involving the domestic workers made more sense:

\\- someone entered the house late at night,

\\- Aarushi was killed first,

\\- alcohol was consumed afterward,

\\- Hemraj was then taken to the terrace and killed,

\\- the killers panicked and fled after partially cleaning up.

That sequence at least aligns with the forensic clues.

At the end of the day, I don’t know who killed Aarushi and Hemraj. Nobody does.

But I honestly think the Talwars became victims of a completely botched investigation and one of the worst media trials India has ever seen.

Searching for Rachanda Pickle

John Arthur Ackroyd. American murderer and suspected serial killer. Convicted of the abduction and murder of Kaye Turner, but the rest of the cases he is accused of remain unsolved. Hiding in plain sight? Quite the opposite I believe.

Marlene Gabrielson is John Ackroyds first known victim. 1977 Marlene was hitch hiking home to Lebanon Oregon from a rodeo in Sisters. She is picked up by John Ackroyd on highway 20. After falling asleep in his truck and being awoken to him ripping her from the vehicle. He then rapes her. John takes Marlene home where she then reports this encounter to the police. Polygraphs of both her and John were done as well as rape kit testing at the hospital. According to Linn County police records Ackroyd passed his polygraph and Marlene didn't. The Lebanon Oregon Police Department dismissed her case.

Christmas Eve 1978, 35-year-old Kaye Turner goes missing from Camp Sherman outside of sisters Oregon. 25 miles from Santiam Junction. Last seen going for a jog by her husband, police were notified when Kaye had not returned. The search for Kaye was minimal. 8 months later, when family was offering a 1,000-dollar reward for anyone who could find her, John Ackroyd walks into a small store in Camp Sherman asking to use the phone. He has found Kaye Turners Partial remains. Stating to the owners of the store, "Why did I have to find her, I was the last one to see her alive." This sparked suspicion with detectives. Ackroyd was given a polygraph, to which he failed. After extensive interviews and statements, the only thing saving John from being convicted of her murder was John's alibis, Roger Dale Beck and his wife.

Fast forward July 11^(th), 1990, 13-year-old Rachanda Pickle (Johns Ackroyds stepdaughter) is reported missing from her home at Santiam Junction in Oregon, 24 hours after Rachanda had last been seen. Police records from the Linn County Sheriffs Department show that on the day of her disappearance John Ackroyd and Linda Ackroyd (Rachandas mother) both left for work between the time of 5:30 and 5:45 am. Rachanda was left home alone. Linda was working at the Black Butte Ranch at the time. John was an ODOT mechanic, assigned to be working on a snowplow in bend. After telling his boss he did not have to correct parts for the job John decided to take the rest of the day off. Returning home around 9:30 am, John asks Rachanda if she wants to take a drive with him to go take pictures of deer. She declined. Stating that her mother left her a list of chores to be done before her mother returned home. At 12:00 John walks into the home to find that Rachanda was nowhere to be seen. Linda was aware of Rachanda being gone when she returned home from work at 5:00pm. She waited 24 hours to report her daughter missing. When the Linn County Sheriffs Department arrived, they recognized John right away. Searches for Rachanda continued by all surrounding counties until 1993, but no trace of her was ever found. Law enforcement was almost positive she was dead and that John had something to do with her disappearance.

John was convicted of the Murder of Kaye Turner in 1993, when the wife of Roger Dale Beck admitted that she lied to law enforcement in 1978. John and Roger had both been involved in the murder of Kay Turner. Admitting to it on multiple occasions and threatening to hurt the wife if she ever said anything. The conviction came a little too late. By then John had the time to take the lives of two more young women who lived in Sweet Home Oregon. Melissa and Sheila, whose bodies were found on a logging road outside of Newport Oregon off of highway 20.

John took a plea deal in 2013 for the murder of Rachanda. He did not admit fault to the crime but agreed to not seek parole and to decline release if the opportunity ever arose. Justice for Mellisa and Sheila was never served, and the location of Rachanda Pickle still remains a mystery.

These events have led me to ask myself a few questions.

1. Why was Marlenes case actually dismissed, and why is she our only know survivor.

2. Polygraph tests seemed to be a popular means for continuing or dismissing cases back then. If that was so, and much suspicion was placed on John for the murder of Kaye Turner in 77, why was Rogers wife Pam (their only alibi for the day of Kaye Turners disappearance) never given a polygraph?

3. My major question. With fairly accurate witness statements and time stamps for Johns whereabouts the day Rachanda disappeared, why were search teams not handled more accurately? Where is Rachanda Pickle???

I am in no way linked to this case. Being close to the area I have recently taken an interest in helping search for Rachanda. I have compiled all the documents, news clippings, witness statements, and police reports I can get my hands on. I now have a solid timeline of John Ackroyds whereabouts the day of her disappearance. I have two open windows within this timeline. One open window I couldn’t find a witness statement to corroborate, and for the other, the witness stated a completely different time than John Ackoyd did regarding their encounter that day.

I’m searching for anyone that may have information that was not included in the documentaries or online reports. Word of mouth, stories from family members, someone who was involved and in close contact with the case. Santiam Junction as well as surrounding areas such as Sweet Home, Lebanon, and Albany are very small towns. Word gets around in a small town.

This monster was not “hiding in plain sight”. This monster was concealed. There is a big difference. I could go on for hours about what could have been done differently. That still doesn’t change what happened back then. What I can do is try to bring her brother closure and allow him the proper burial and goodbye that every loved one so rightfully deserves.
