MB x UNI Outfit Swap, Part 1(?)

This has been on my "to draw" list for a couple of years now since MBTL's release and the complains about the drip (or the lack thereof), though I had planned to get it done in time for EVO Japan a few weeks ago:

"What if UNI characters swapped outfits with their Type-Moon counterparts?"

...and this was the result, now on pixiv. Frankly, after this now I can't help but think of more potential ideas down the line, maybe with Fate or even further beyond.

Why do you play who you play?

I've been trying to find a main for a month now but nobody is really appealing to me so far

Was thinking maybe asking this could help me a bit

Buy the game for your friends

I've bought this game like 8 times myself included.

The first time I got it for me and a few buddies because I wanted to get what was going to be my first fighting game. One didn't play it for too long, and the other person wouldn't stfu about vatista for months and still is difficult for me to fight to this day. It kinda spiralled from there.

There's a customer at my job and we started talking about how I had recently got dbfz so I started going to his house to play offline dbfz like lamb to the slaughter and this has been going on for months, consistently going 2-30 once a week. The trick was that the first night I went over I bought him uni2 and showed him a tiny bit and then just let it go and didn't mention it suffering from piccolo's special beam cannon in silence. Now, months later, he is playing different characters trying to find a main, and we will probably fight tomorrow. I'm excited to see who he plays and to get to maybe be able to play this game offline more often.

It is really easy to get caught up in the more mainstream titles to find players, but none of em hit for me like uni does. I try to tell myself playing them will help me improve as a competitor or something, but they won't help me stop whiffing 421b after 66c on eltnum. Might as well make my friends play if possible.

should i play unib or unib II

i saw that game and it looked really cool, but should i play the first game before the II ? or is it more like smash bros (most gameplay and no lore). and if i have to play the 1st game before the 2nd, i see 2 version of the 1st (exe:late[st] and exe:late[cl-r]) which one should i buy if i need to play 1 before 2 ?

So I'm thinking of getting into the game, since I saw the news of the major update coming up this summer.

To the experienced players, how great would you consider the changes coming with it? Are they just some additional mechanics or do they have the potential to change the game entirely?

Which version should I get?

I’m interested in trying Under Night but I’m split on which version I should pick up. I play games on pc and switch. I play most of my games on switch and even prefer it because I like having the option of playing on the tv or portably. I also prefer to have a physical copy of a game if I can. I was going to order a physical copy on switch, but I figured I should check if the game has cross play first and it turns out it doesn’t and the switch player base is much smaller than steam. If the game had cross play, this would be an easy shout for me. I would like to play on switch but I’m worried I’ll have trouble finding online matches. It’s also worth noting that I use a controller don’t have a very good one for pc. I’d like to have some opinions from people who are much more familiar with the game. Which version do you think I should get? I appreciate any input.

me and a friend would like to get into UNI2, and we would like to ask a question about which characters may be for us based on our previous character choices on other fighting games. my friend plays luigi in smash ultimate, a character with a strong grab game and a great punish game, meanwhile i play mewtwo in Project M and F-ciel in MBAACC, both good zoner-rushdown hybrids. are there any good characters for us?

Seth's voice is so cool.

I wish I could understand everything he's saying (I can only fully understand the last part, which is "Ayumi tatsu ga yoi, yuragi semaru kyoukai no hateito! KYOUKAI NO DISTANTO!")

The young boy, a victim of chance and coincidence.

Not objectively, and not in terms of pure writing depth, obviously - but in terms of being someone placed in the position of 'protagonist', especially in such an anime trope filled story such as UNIB, I would say that nobody comes close to fulfilling the role better than Hyde.

His design just screams anime. I mean, come on. What's more anime than a guy in a school uniform with a bunch of belts for no reason and two-toned hair holding a giant-ass sword?

But beyond his design alone, his mixture of traits make him practically the perfect 'audience surrogate' - the viewpoint character meant to introduce players to the world of UNIB, both in game and in story telling.

Firstly, there's his status as the ordinary high-school student.

Hyde is ordinary. And in terms of light-novel and anime tropes, he IS extremely ordinary. He doesn't have any kind of tragic past, no secret family bloodline, no miracle surrounding his circumstances, nothing. He is literally just an ordinary highschooler, as ordinary as ordinary can be. So, for an ordinary high school student like him to become involved with the Hollow Night and Linne, what is the justifying reason that brings him into the world of the Night?

To help someone, obviously.

This already establishes two things - one, that despite his brash way of talking and his design, Hyde is not an edgy protagonist. He's not an anti-hero like Sol. Even though he might be thick-headed and a terrible liar, he's still a good guy. A really good guy, even. It's pretty funny reading Linne's Chronicle storyline when he appears and watching him fail. I can't help but think the gap between his speech manner and edgy appearance and his total naive softie personality is somewhat endearing. It helps you connect to the character more.

There's a reason why nobody criticizes Hyde of being generic and a self-insert protagonist, unlike, say, Kirito or anything else, because he's not meant to be deep or nuanced. His character traits are simple yet shine through in story. And that's enough to latch onto him.

His inexperience, his inability to lie, his flaws of being reckless and cocky - they all come off as endearing, since they're treated more in a light-hearted lens when it matters instead of something you're meant to care too much about - and tie into his status as the audience surrogate and protagonist. He has good reason to involve himself in the Night. His reluctancy to fight tethers him to reality and adds a sense of relatability. I mean, if I was in his place, I'd also wanna go back to attending school with Orie than training till I'm half dead!

You just can't help but like Hyde. He's the most tropey anime protagonist in the best way possible.
His character traits all come together to make him easy to like, easy to play, and give him an easy reason to get himself involved in things beyond his comprehension.
In terms of how fitting the protagonist role is for anybody - Hyde Kido is the quintessential protagonist, and nobody even comes close to his level.

Also, the Insulator is just badass.
