I’m currently in my senior year, and I’ve never been more stressed about my GPA—not because of the content, but because of the fear of being "flagged."

I just submitted a paper for a 300-level class that I spent hours researching and writing. I used Grammarly for basic spellcheck and APA citations and the detector flagged it at 40% AI.

Can you tell me about this? Thank you.

Edit: I wish UMGC had an easier major for bachelor's degree, like software engineer or development, but they changed the name of that. Names alone make a big while for some of us, while being easy.

Edot: There's like 12 courses I"d need to do for the degree. Can I finish these in 3 semesters (including summer), maybe also while working full time? Has anyone done this?

I started recording writing my papers because of this fear. I had a lot of sources I cited for a paper and copy pasting in the APA 7 citations turned my grammarly AI detection up to 49%!! It is freaking me out. Usually after spelling and grammar check it's somewhere around 11%

I started noticing that spelling and grammar check in word or grammarly increases the AI detection score too. I have dyslexia, and even if I didn't, I've always been encouraged to use it and even get that in my assignment prompts and feedback from professors. Especially when it comes to APA compliance. It's so helpful to find accidental contractions or wrong verb tenses.

I've only used AI to help me search for scholarly sources, verify my outline template has everything the rubric asks for, and I always include the AI disclosure after my refernces. But I haven't used it to write my paper and don't see how I could since the paper is based on my research, opinion, and argument.

I've done the research. I've made the points. I've written the words, and I'm so scared of this accusation. How does TurnItIn detect this? I've noticed a score in the feedback.

Has anyone else encountered this or had to defend this?

I’m finding it difficult to align with my group on our project. There’s a heavy reliance on AI-generated content, and I'm concerned the work lacks the depth and specific analysis required for the rubric. How can I steer us toward a more authentic approach without creating constant conflict?

Hi guys. I'm a 26 yo female struggling to restart my education. I was always a very good student and highly motivated. I was completing my bachelor's in business management in another country but dropped out during the 5th semester. My mom got cancer and I had to move here to take care of her. It’s been almost 4 years since that time. I also have a 1 year old baby that was born very sick. Is umgc worth it? I barely have any time for myself. I don’t know if it is the right decision to invest so much time and effort into something that won’t benefit me in the future. I do want to find a job in the field. I am sorry if I am not making a lot of sense. Thank you😞

18 months ago I (44m) decided it was time to finish my degree. I had attempted to in my 30s but life and young kids doomed that. I began the process of re-enrolling (had been at UMUC post College Park) and figuring out what I needed to do.
I had a great success coach who was able to work with me to plot out my coursework. My goal was simple to finish as fast and as cheap as possible. I’m self employed, the degree wouldn’t matter. This was a point of pride.
After looking at my current transcript a business degree would be fastest and made the most sense for me.
All of the classes were degree specific and requirements so I didn’t have to decide what to take only the order in which to do it. Furthermore, I had. It exhausted all of my transfer credits and could complete 4 more which I did through another site. This is a great alternative especially for classes that are either harder than you think you can handle or just want to bang them out quickly. Plus the cost savings is legit.
I didn’t use student aid or scholarships and paid as I went. Usually only taking 1 class every 8 weeks although I did do some overlap and did take 1 4 week condensed course.
Overall I restarted this journey in January of 2025 and took a total of 14 classes or 42 credit hours. It wasn’t hard per se. but I didn’t put myself in a position to make it hard. It’s late nights and a lot of personal accountability. I don’t care about gpa but I got nothing lower than a B.

Graduation. Not doing it. Don’t care about it. In my opinion it’s basically a selfie booth you have to travel to in a cap and gown. I’ve got better things to do than drive to Adelphi.

Well…. That’s my story. Hope it helps. If you’ve got questions I’ll do my best to answer them.

I did it!!!

I work full time and have 4 young children, my goal was to get my bachelor’s as quickly as possible.

After 2 very long years (thanks to the Sophia classes) I finally got my Bachelor’s in Business Administration AND maintained a 4.0!

I am so proud of myself and I know my children will enjoy the fact that I have no more homework.

Is it just me, or is this session’s workload hitting differently?

Between a 40-hour work week and these constant discussion posts that feel like they're being graded by a bot, I feel like I’m barely coming up for air.

Does anyone else feel like the "accelerated" 8-week format is getting more intense? I love the flexibility of UMGC, but man, trying to prep for proctored OAs while managing actual life is a lot.

Got a F

Hi,

So I just did my first semester at UMGC. I took two classes and didn’t do much in either class until the last week , when I turned everything in. I procrastinate. One professor grades everything and gave me a B the other failed me. So, I got an academic probation email. The email said I retake only what’s been failed which normally would be fine, however to continue to get benefits I would need 6 credit, has anyone been through this and was able to take the 6 credits? I was registered for two other classes and just got dropped from them. I would call but, I don’t believe advising is open until Monday. Thank you

I’m trying to take two ANTH courses for this summer semester starting May 13– July 7. Intro to biological(1) and cultural(2) anthropology. I’ve looked in the syllabus and I can only see the durations of the classes but not if they’re on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, etc. so I’m hesitant to sign up for them and then they be on/at the same date and time.

Can anyone point me in the right direction so that I can understand what time and day the classes will be scheduled?

Has anyone transferred a study.com course for CMSC 100? I looked at the transfer equivalent list, and there are 2 options for a CMSC elective, but I need to specifically satisfy my computer science gen ed. Just want to make sure I sign up for the right thing before I spend the money

Taking BMGT 495 this summer, it’s my last class I need to graduate. I knew the class was going to tough since it is a capstone class, looking at the syllabus and the assignments it’s really rigorous and hard. Was wondering if anyone took it recently this year and have any tips for the assignment. I am not very good at writing papers or researching, so any tips would extremely help.

Tassel doesn’t have year?

The tassel that came with my cap & gown doesn’t have a year on it. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to. The colorful one that came in the UMGC congratulations box had a year on it. Which one do we wear?

Is there anything special needed to get the attention of honors societies? I meet the requirements, but received no invitations. I’ve also made the dean’s list the entire time I’ve been at UMGC. It would be nice to join one especially because I plan on applying to grad school.
