cant get turntables to stop skipping - advice?

hi all.

i used to scratch and do some turntablism and want to get back into it but cant seem to get my needles to stop scratching. the needles are quite old but i replaced one with a tonar and it still skips. is there anything immediately obvious about my set up? the table they're on is on a slight slant forward so ive risen the front feet up to compensate. this also hasn't solved anything. is it most likely the needles / cartridge? thanks :)

Saturday practice

Getting in a scratch before the wrestlemania festivities.

Outside of recording scratches for selected project I haven’t had a chance to really practice freely for an extended period of time. A little sloppy but I’m not trying to impress anyone.

I’m also convinced Third Sight’s instrumental for “Rhymes Like A Scientist” is a top 10 beat to scratch to.

Reloop spin good for begginers?

Before I drop a ton of money on a set up, I figured I would look into the Reloop spin. My only concern is how it would translate to a regular set up?

Upgrade my Rane Sixty One mixer or stick it out for now?

I finally dove into a world I’ve always wanted to and grabbed a Rane Twelve and Sixty Two mixer. I really do enjoy the mixer, but the concern is the age. It’s driver only work on older systems, and lacks pads (which I’m not overly concerned with right now)

The main upgrade option would be a Numark Scratch, as any others from Pioneer or Rane price jump quite a bit (Rane Seventy Two or Pioneer s5/7/9 for example)

Am I better off sticking with the Rane as I learn or move over to the Numark (or other option?)

Thanks in advance.

Will my current setup limit my ability to learn?

After about 15 years I’ve finally got the itch to learn scratching again. Back when I was a kid I just didn’t have the patience for it.

Here is what I used to have and still have today:

Also have this MixVibes DVS Pack MK2

Will this gear limit my ability to learn scratching properly? In the future Im planning to get a portable 7inch turntable since I mainly want to learn and have fun without taking up too much space. Thanks!

Give me mixerless scratch combos to practice!

I finally got good scratch samples and I think I wanna test them out, can you guys give me good mixerless scratch combos? I would like notation but if you don’t wanna give it that’s fine too :3

Looking For Something from the past

Hi, I'm looking for music or right name of the group DJ Qbert used to be in with buckethead, les claypool and someone else. I thought the name was psychophonographdisk but it seems I'm wrong, any help would be appreciated.

Is it normal for the default Technics spindle adapter for 7" records to not fit sometimes?

There are a lot of 45s where I really struggle to get the adapter in the spindle hole, feels like the hole is too small. Should I get new adapters?

6months scratching, working solely on foundations.

Been doing my work after receiving feedback here on the sub over my scratching regarding my chirps and flares some months back...I know it's far away from perfect yet but I do acknowledge NOW that I used to sound awful back then (I wasn't able to realize it 3 months ago) and now I guess I don't sound that trash, it's the little improvements and getting the sounds I really want that give me joy and happiness, I'm really enjoying the process.

Still humble and hungry for getting better at this, I'd appreciate any comments, as title says I've been only working on foundations, specially chirps, flares and chirpflares, I do vary sometimes with OG flares and some 2 click flares but don't wanna try to embrace lots of technics and sound wack at everyone...

Have a good one yall

Slow & steady wins the… experience?

It’s certainly not a race, scratching is more like a slow & steady morphine drip, without the risk of renal failure
