Here's my Thomas Wooden Railway layout plan for the month of May 2026. This one was based on a layout plan from the 1999 Thomas Wooden Railway yearbook. It features many of the same destinations, such as the Sodor Cargo Crane, the Special Engine Shed, the Double-Wide Old Iron Bridge, the Sodor Bay Bridge, and the Water Tower. To complete this layout's circuit, I had to get some custom Three-Way Parallel Switch Track from Quality Trains and More due to the official Thomas Wooden Railway ones being discontinued, rare, and expensive. Aside from that, the only piece of track that isn't from Thomas Wooden Railway is the BRIO Bell Signal. Some of the train cars are also from Orbrium and Maxim. The characters featured in this layout are Thomas, Gordon, Percy, Molly, Salty, D261, The Flying Scotsman, Samson, Fred Pelhay, my custom Bradford, the Brendam Bay Fish Troublesome Truck, the Spiteful Brake Van, Bertie, Sir Topham Hatt, and the Engineer.

I remember either in 1993 or 1994 my mother and grandmother took me to an event at the moa where kids could play with the thomas wooden railway sets. It was fun! What I remember most is that they had an area of the mall gated off and inside the gated area there was a giant thomas themed rug layed out with wooden railway train sets already set up so children could play with the trains and sets. There was also a huge Thomas that moved all around in what I can only describe as a "bumpy" fashion. I had my picture taken in front of that thomas. Good memories! Anyone else remember that event?

Now I am wondering how you actually classify your trains?

As a kid, it was just important for me to have 1 of each character at all.

For me now, I’d do it by sku. So for Thomas, pre-2012 counts as having him in the collection.

But we know there are variations between the years: staples, magnets, name on bottom.

So how would you track?
