On the day that would've been frontman Trevor Strnad's 45th birthday (and days before the 5th anniversary of his death), I can't help but remember the first time I saw the Black Dahlia Murder live. You could always rely on Mayhem Fest to introduce to some awesome bands, and the Black Dahlia Murder was one of them during the Aug. 7, 2009 tour stop at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, NJ. With a gorilla mascot roaming the stage alongside Trevor, it felt more like a parking lot party than a typical melodic death metal show. It was a high energy set that stood out and always stuck with me - and that's saying a lot considering they shared a bill with the likes of Slayer, Killswitch Engage, Bullet For My Valentine, Trivium, Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, God Forbid and a ton of others!

What band did you discover at a festival that left a memorable impression? Share in the comments below, and stay tuned for more things to come from this space (including stories from concerts like this)!
