Is Suunto the most unmotivational watch?

I have had my Suunto Race since September 2024. I am a 38 year old female and do mostly running. Been running for about two years.

I have been struggling with the running feature on this watch and on the app. I do lot of zone 2, I do tempo and interval runs and been consistant. Last year I ran 1100km, which I thought was amazing.

My Suunto thinks otherwise.

I just ran a 10k in 1h1min, 5k is 27min and 3k race was 15min. Wasnt even all out efforts, but since my 10k my Suunto massively dropped my "estimated" race times and my VO2 Max. A tad unmotivating since my zone 2 has gotten significantly better as my tempo runs too.

Anyone else have this issue? I have Strava, which is way more accurate so I mainly use that, but it is kinda weird that Suunto is so much off.

Hi everyone,

I'm the developer of beproud.ai and I just finished building the integration with Suunto.

I'm looking for people who use Suunto for their workouts (cycling, running, etc.) to help me test the data sync and provide honest feedback on the app.

I'm not selling anything. In fact, I'll offer a free lifetime PRO subscription to anyone who helps me test the integration with their device. I'm offering 20 free PRO subscriptions, after which you can still use the free version if you're interested.

If you're interested, leave a comment and send me a private message with the email address you registered with, and I'll send you all the details.

Thanks to anyone who wants to contribute!

Cheers 😄

Why did they make the solar harvesting widget so small

Not a fan of the design change here, I’d rather have the large one back.

coming from garmin switching to suunto. help with pick pls :)

had a garmin for couple years, but want/need a new watch and thinking about switching to suunto. way cleaner app and ui imo.

found a race s for 260€, worth the pick in 2026 and wait for maybe a race 2s/vertical2s or go straight for the race 2? (500€ is still kinda expensive)

wrist is 18,5cm, so race 2 wouldnt be too big, but i kinda like smaller watches.

Considering Suntoo

Hello everyone, I'm considering buying a Suunto watch, partly because it's a Finnish brand and made in Europe. I'd like to use the watch while kayaking and possibly also during running. Additionally, it would be nice if I could at least see notifications from my iPhone. I'm personally considering the Vertical2 or the Race2. Which one do you think would be suitable?

Feeling very confused of the quality of my watch

So I got a 9 Peak pro some days ago and now that I've had time to experiment with it I can't help but to feel extremely disappointed;

  • The blood oxygen meter is so off it shouldn't exist. Currently posting this with a 81% spo2.

  • The HR monitor is better but still off

  • By extension, the HRV must be off since the HR is more of a vibe

  • The HR sometimes just doesn't work and the watch has to be reboot

  • VO2 max doesn't exist. Although it might need more data points to show something, but tbh at this point I wouldn't be surprised if that too simply didn't work.

  • The watch insists I live subterraneanly at various depths below the sea level, suboptimal, considering I live by the coast.

  • Sleep monitor is ridiculously bad, my 8ish h of sleep is 1h 42m by Suunto standards

  • The strap on this thing is so short it's making me question whether I don't know how to wear a watch or if Suunto doesn't. I don't even have a wide wrist yet it has to sit tight in the narrowest part at max length, how the hell are people supposed to wear this thing?

  • I don't know how they count calories or steps, and I don't have other ways to reliably monitor them, but I am going to assume they too are off.

Am I missing something obvious? I feel like I got scammed buying a watch with a random number generator? What do people use these things for if not for the things they're supposed to measure? I'd love to love this but I'm just left confused, is this the quality to expect from a sports watch?

Edit: thank you for the comments. This market ended up being simply something I wasn't expecting. I have started the refunding process and deleted my account on Suunto. Very unfortunate, it's a local company and I'd love to have loved it.

Quadrante Anniversario

Ciao a tutti, ho notato che sull’app del telefono, nell’elenco dei quadranti installati sul mio V2 non è presente il quadrante Vertical Anniversary, ma me lo ritrovo comunque sull’orologio assieme a quelli installati.

Come posso eliminarlo?

Non trovo nemmeno più questo quadrante nell’elenco di tutti i quadranti installabili sull’orologio…

Race 2 Crashes during Running Activities

Hi everyone,

I've had two system crashes on my Race 2 during runs in the last month. Both times, the watch became unresponsive to "wake to raise," and pressing the middle button triggered a full reboot (Suunto Logo + vibration).

  • Sensor: Polar H10 Chest Strap used both times.
  • Happened once with SuuntoPlus apps and once without.
  • Firmware: Latest (2.53.43).
  • The activity is saved, but the data in the watch Logbook looks malformed (no HR or speed data), though it shows up (mostly) in the app with default HR zones.

I’ve already done a soft reset and contacted Suunto support (sent logs/recordings), but I’m curious if anyone else has seen this recently?

It's frustrating to lose mid-run metrics. Has anyone found a workaround or it might be triggering this on the newer firmware?

Race 2 - What a beautiful watch!

I’ve been a Garmin user for the past two years, using the Epix Pro and Fenix 8. While both watches were great, they had some really weird software bugs and were overkill for my running and strength training needs.

Recently, my Fenix 8 had annoying issues that required three replacements, all of which exhibited the same problems. Garmin offered me a refund, which gave me an opportunity to try another brand. I’ve always loved Suunto’s design, both hardware and software.

So, I ordered the Race 2 Titanium and here are my observations from Garmin:

Design:
The watch is light and comfortable to wear, even though it’s larger than the Fenix 8 AMOLED 47mm. Its slimmer profile and weight make it less obtrusive on the wrist.

The industrial design is clean and beautiful. The buttons have a great feel (better than the Fenix 8), and the scroll wheel works well.

Display:
The display is bright and sharp. I could see the pixels on the Fenix 8 (I’m pretty sure they changed suppliers since the Fenix 8’s launch, because the replacement I got had a worse display than my year-old Fenix 8), but I couldn’t see any individual pixels on the Race 2. I can’t emphasize how much better the display is, even though they’re mostly similar on spec.

UI and overall OS performance :
The UI is clean and simple and has a better design language overall. The font sizing is on point, and everything is clear and easy to read. Less is more is really the principle here.

Watch faces are much better than on the Fenix. While they have less customization, almost every one of them is well-thought-out design-wise. There are no 1990 gradients or complex backgrounds; instead, there’s clear typography on black or simple backgrounds. From a design point of view, this aligns perfectly with my preferences.

There is zero stuttering or lag while scrolling the menus compared to the Fenix 8. Also, maps are 10x more smooth when panning and zooming. On the Fenix 8 that was painfully slow. The difference between those two watches on that point is night and day, Garmin watches pushed the limit of the processor for far too long, and for what they charge customers this is unacceptable IMO.

Battery:
The battery is great. I’ve been using it for the past four days and am still at 53%. I’ve run every day since I got the watch, and I use AOD and all sleep metrics.

What I’ll miss:
Music:
I used to run with just my watch and listen to music through Deezer on it. I’ll have to carry a phone, but that could be seen as a plus since it adds security (for emergencies) and saves battery. It’s also nice to take pictures occasionally.

Garmin Coach:
I used to train with Garmin Coach, so I’ll have to find a way around that.

Recovery and performance metrics:
I’ll need to get used to all the new metrics: TSB, CTL, and TSS. I think the Garmin Coach was a bit more intuitive.

Switch to Race 2 from Garmin

Hi,
I'm considering a switch to the Race 2 from my Forerunner 965 and wondering if anyone here has experience with a similar switch?

I'm sick of all the bloat that comes with the Garmin, and want a more streamlined, focused experience. I previously thought Coros would be the way to go, but was unimpressed when handling the product in store.

The Suunto looks to have the build quality to go along with the simple UI that I'm looking for. How would the performance of the Race 2 compare to the Forerunner 965 for running and strength training?

Sold my kidney yesterday to buy the new Suunto Nautic and air integration tank pod.

Obviously I haven’t dived with it yet, first thoughts are the display is amazing, really bright and clear, the buttons are very easy to use and intuitive, and it’s easy to change the screen when diving to activate the digital compass. It’s very easy to personalise, decide what information you want on the screen and so on. It’s also has GPS and a mapping function, and the ability to depict your dive in 3D through the app, but to be honest I would have rather paid less, and lost these functions, as whilst they are ‘nice to have,’ they’re a bit unnecessary.

The reported battery life is long, but to be honest it’s very easy to recharge anyway, the charger is USB-C, and it just attaches to the side of the unit.

The unit came with a bungee cord styled wrist strap, initially I thought I would switch it out for a watch strap, but it’s actually fantastic, and far more secure than a watch strap, so I’ll just stick to the bungee.

Last time I dived an air integrated unit was a UWATEC computer back in 2002. It shit itself during the first week working as an instructor on Grand Cayman, which really screwed me as not only did I lose my computer, but also my pressure gauge. Hopefully 24 years later the new tech is more reliable!

Looking at getting the race 2, had some questions if anyone can help.

Looking at getting the race 2, or potentially the vertical 2. Main use will be navigating for hiking in hills/country. Just wanted to see if anyone could provide insight.

It seems the only difference between the two is the battery life and torch? Are hardware and software identical?

Battery life doesn't bother me too much as I always carry a large battery bank anyway. I assume it's easy to charge from a bank?

So it seems a no brainer to grab the race 2 for 100 less? As I always have torches on me anyway.

The only thing I would think maybe makes a difference is the build of the vertical 2 is supposed to be a bit more rugged? Can the race 2 still survive a bit of knocking around?

Thanks for any help

Why didn’t the Suunto app log my half marathon time?

I ran the Wings for Life event yesterday, but the Suunto app didn’t log my half marathon time. Why? Didn’t stop the watch. The watch didn’t restart.

Edit: Just noticed that my 5K and 10K times are wrong as well. My best 5K is around 20 min since I got the watch a month ago. 10K around 42 min.

I built free connector (MCP server) that lets you talk to your Suunto data with AI (eg Claude)

Hey r/Suunto,

Got a Vertical 2 recently and wanted a better way to dig into my data beyond the app. So I built suunto-mcp — a free, complete, open-source server that connects your Suunto watch directly to AI assistants like Claude.

What it does:

Once set up, you can just ask things like:

  • "How has my sleep trended over the last 30 days?"
  • "Show me my longest runs this year and compare average HR"
  • "Export last week's rides as GPX"
  • "How was my recovery this week compared to training load?"

It exposes your workouts, GPS tracks, FIT files, sleep, recovery, HRV, and 24/7 activity data — all queryable in plain language.

Released with full support for the new Suunto API v3 (workout endpoints) and the /247 samples API (activity, sleep, recovery time-series - full set).

Install in seconds — just tell your Claude: "Install this MCP server: https://github.com/googlarz/suunto-mcp"

(Needs your Suunto API credentials from apizone.suunto.com — free with a Suunto account)

Pairs great with the Health Skill — a Claude skill that builds and maintains a personal health/fitness profile over time. Suunto MCP feeds it your raw data; the health skill turns it into a living picture of your fitness trends, recovery patterns, and training history.

Happy to answer questions or hear what queries you'd want to run on your data.
