Which one is better?
I like both of them, but it's interesting to hear someone else's opinion
Valve rejected my Steam Profile Sandbox. So I emailed Gabe Newell, scrapped the monetization, and here is my Plan B.
Hi everyone, I’m 影猫, an indie developer. For a while now, I’ve been developing a Steam Profile Sandbox tool called ZoneHub. My original goal was simple: to give everyone a place to perfectly preview how backgrounds, showcases, and avatar frames look together before spending your hard-earned Steam Points. But a few days ago, I received a rejection notice from Valve’s reviewers. The reason: the software touched the sensitive mechanics of the Points Shop. I completely understand and respect Valve's bottom line. But honestly, it hurts. Not because my app didn't pass, but because my original intention was to save everyone from the agonizing process of decorating a profile. I know exactly how painful it is:
- Scouring the internet for tutorials just to make a "CD record" layout.
- Using After Effects to render videos into GIFs.
- Even resorting to hex-editing GIF bytes (changing 0x3b to 0x21) just to bypass Steam's upload limits... This shouldn't be a paid third-party app. This should be a native feature built into Steam! So, I did something about it. I wrote down the pain points we all face, along with my original vision for this sandbox, and sent an email directly to Gabe Newell (as well as official channels). (See attached screenshot)
In the letter, I told him that I am abandoning the idea of making a profit from this software. I offered my product logic and UI designs to Valve completely for free. I just genuinely hope that one day, Steam will release an official "Profile Preview Sandbox" so players don't have to suffer through this anymore.
So, what happens to ZoneHub now?
I will absolutely never release software that puts your accounts at risk of a ban. Therefore, I have decided to completely rebuild ZoneHub from the ground up. It will transform from a "Points Shop Simulator" into a 100% safe, purely local "Ultimate Swiss Army Knife for Steam Showcases"—AND I am making it completely FREE.
The rebuilt, pure-tool version will keep the features you actually need the most:
1.💿 One-click CD Record Generator: Say goodbye to complex Photoshop tutorials. Import an image, and it's done. 2.✂️ Video/Image Splitter: Perfect 5-piece or long-artwork cropping with zero alignment issues. Cures OCD instantly. 3.🎨 Custom Steam Status: Stand out in your friends list with a custom rich presence.
These features will run entirely locally without touching any sensitive APIs. It is absolutely safe.It might no longer be the "all-in-one sandbox" I originally envisioned, but I believe it will still be the most essential tool for anyone who loves decorating their Steam profile.
Because of this massive Plan B, the Steam store page needs to be remade and the review process starts from scratch. The release date of the software is now delayed indefinitely.
However, my website will continue to be updated, and my passion for Steam profile customization remains unchanged.
Thank you all for your support. As an indie developer fueled purely by love for this community, this is all I can do.
(WIP) Is there a way to get rid of the +1 Artwork while having more than two?
Design in the style of my homeland
I created this illustration inspired by an iconic still from the anime "Berserk", but what you see in the background isn’t a castle - it’s a monument in the region where I used to live. I lost my home because of the war, but I see it every day on my Steam profile.

Does anyone know a good avatar frame that suits this profile?
I want to add a live Doomguy to the Artwork section. Does anyone have one or know how I can get one?
Done some work on my Profile. let me know what you think :)
If you want, rate it 1-10

Hello everyone! I'm an art enthusiast and developer. I created this Steam profile themed around "Dying Light 2", using Peninsula- Drizzlepath as the base.
To make sure everything looked right before committing points, I previewed the design with steamzone — a free web tool I built that lets you simulate your Steam profile without spending any points.
Since many creators told me they'd love to save and share their designs with others, I've also been working on a desktop version called zonehub — a full Steam Profile Engine with sharing features. It's currently on Steam in the wishlist phase, so if it sounds useful, I'd really appreciate a wishlist add 💙
Hope you enjoy the design!
Hey r/SteamArtworkProfiles! 👋
I’ve been lurking in this community for a while, constantly amazed by the crazy profile designs you all come up with. But as a developer, it always bothered me how clunky Steam’s native customization system is. You basically have to buy points shop items blindly and pray they look good together.
I wanted to fix this infrastructure problem, so I spent the last few months coding ZoneHub — a dedicated sandbox simulator for Steam profile creators.
Here is the design philosophy behind what I built:
🛠️ A True Staging Environment: I engineered it so you can test every background, avatar frame, and artwork alignment in a 1:1 sandbox. Zero Steam Points required during the design phase. You only buy what you know works.
☁️ Workshop as a Creator Hub: This was the hardest feature to code, but the most important to me. I fully integrated the Steamworks API so you can save your iterations and publish them directly to the Workshop.
📈 Empowering Creators: I noticed that amazing designs here often get lost in the feed. With the Workshop integration, I want to give you guys a place to build a permanent portfolio, gain followers, and actually get recognized for your aesthetic skills.
The app is currently in Valve's final review process and will be dropping very soon. Since I built this specifically for power users like you, your feedback on the UI or feature requests would be incredibly valuable to me.
If you want to support a solo dev, a wishlist would be amazing: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4536300/ZoneHub__Profile_Engine
I'll be hanging out in the comments to answer any questions about the development or the app itself. Keep creating!
The animation and design are my own work.
