Question for Extended range vs max range WT or Extended range LT/Trailboss owners

I am debating between a these 3 trims; Extended range WT, Max Range WT, or LT/Trailboss Extended range

For the extended range users: is the extra towing worth it? how does it feel when you are towing that 10-12K load?

For the max range users, do you regret not having the extra towing?

( Do any of you max range users just send it at 12K anyway?)

(All owners) What is the Kwh you are experiencing?

got a lease offer on a 80K MSRP LT extended range 10K miles 27 months for 600$ a month ( 5K down)

For those of you who bought a WT or any other trim, do you regret having/ not having the extended bed?

I made a website to compare EVs and gas cars using cost-equivalent MPG

Hi guys, this is a website I made to help people understand how much each electric vehicle really costs.

I understand that I’m preaching to the choir on /r/SilveradoEV

However, I think this website brings things into terms that most people are already used to.

MPGe is an amazing standard. It truly gives us a constant, just like MPG does, and it’s great for comparing electric vehicles. But it’s not very good at showing the real-world cost in a way most people are used to understanding.

When I compare vehicles, I use the price per gallon and the price per kWh for that day, and that gives me an equivalent MPG.

This is the formula:

Equivalent MPG = MPGe × gas price per gallon / (33.7 × electricity price per kWh)

So let’s say you have an Equinox EV that gets 108 MPGe, and let’s compare it in Florida, where gas is $4 per gallon and electricity is mostly $0.15 per kWh when charging at home.

That means the Equinox is actually like an 85.5 MPG car. That is way easier to digest than 108 MPGe.

And that makes the comparison much easier.

That number changes drastically if electricity or gas prices change, which makes it very different for each situation. But MPG is still the number that everybody uses for comparison, and I don’t think it should be completely ditched yet.

For example, if you charge on the road in Florida, you might need to pay up to $0.68 per kWh.

That makes the same car more like an 18.9 MPG car. That’s not great at all. It’s fine once in a while or for road trips, but if you can’t charge at home, it can make an electric car more expensive than a normal gas one.

At the same time, if you have an Equinox EV and you drive very carefully, you can get up to 4.5 mi/kWh, or 151.7 MPGe. It’s not easy, but it’s feasible. That makes the same car capable of around 120 MPG.

And up to now, we were talking about Florida. Let’s change the conversation to California.

California has an average electricity price of $0.30 per kWh and gas at $5.86 per gallon.

The same car that is capable of getting 85.5 MPG in Florida becomes a 62.6 MPG car in California. At that point, a hybrid with 50+ MPG might make more sense.

That makes it easier to put things into perspective.

Most early adopters had to calculate how much they drive each day to see in how many years an electric car would become financially viable, but that was before, when EVs were still a premium product. Sooner or later, electric cars are getting really close to normal gas car prices. At this point, there is less reason to compare 5-year savings and more reason to compare actual day-to-day running costs.

A comparison between MPG and MPGe can make someone make a bad choice because they do not clearly see the difference. I made this mistake myself. I used my formula, and even then, sometimes I used MPGe directly and fell into that mental trap.

A direct comparison between a normal MPG car and a personalized MPG for a specific electric car might be the next useful step.

On the website, I tried to make it as easy as possible to do a direct comparison, but I also included options to calculate using price per liter, mi/kWh, km/kWh, kWh/100 km, and kWh/100 miles. There is also an efficiency equivalent at the end of the page with all conversions using this personalized formula.

I also added a multi-vehicle comparison.

You can add gas price, electricity price, diesel price, and then add as many cars as you want to compare. I also added a reverse equivalent MPGe for gas cars, just for fun, and you can actually use MPGe vs equivalent/personalized MPGe as a comparison if you want. Maybe one day electric cars will be the majority and this tool will be used more for that comparison instead.

I tried to make it as simple as possible, but if you want me to add anything, or if you find any errors, let me know and I will try to fix them as fast as possible.

Mobile charger amp

I currently have a SEV with standard range, I am renting a home so I can’t install a 240v in the garage or outside. My dryer is next to my garage door and I plan on getting the splitvolt c2-032 which lets me plug both dryer and ev charger to it (that being no more than 24amp) my question is, I know the GM mobile charger is set to 32a, but in the SEV I was able to set level 2 charger to only pull 24a. Would this make it so the charger doesn’t pull more than what I set it to? Or do I need to get another Charger.

TLTR: GM charger set to 32a but set SEV to Charge at 24amp via level 2 charger, would this work?

Bug feedback to GM

Has anyone found a way to log bugs and design change requests with GM for our vehicles?

Before the Android 14 update, if you switched off GCWR notifications, they would stay off. Now, irrespective of whether you have switched them off, you still get annoying messages about it from their horribly incorrect GCWR sensors.

The other change I'd love to see is the ability to suppress their other needless notifications, like playing a ding sound and popping up a message on the center console to "focus" when all I did was look over my shoulder to check for traffic. These notifications are a distraction and should be suppressed.

Thoughts? Anyone found a way to stop them?

Just cancelled OnStar

So my trial + extended trial on OnStar just ran out.

I can't stomach the $50+ a month subscription fee so I cancelled it.

From the onstar site it looks like the only thing I mostly use is Navigation. But it also says route planning is included with the base 8 year included OnStar.

So question for those of you who also cancelled their OnStar: How bad is it?

When using the route planning does it still show estimate SOC on arrival?

What else will I be missing out on that's actually important?

Max range users, any regrets?

I'm on the fence with buying a extend range VS max pack range. I'm looking at a used 2025 RST with 21k miles for 68k.

Apple Music without paying for OnStar

Hey does anyone have a way they’ve figured out to use Apple Music on infotainment system without paying for the OnStar subscription?

Right now using on Bluetooth is tolerable, but on screen would be way better.

Not switching to Spotify or other streaming service, so stuck with whatever I can figure out.

Just bought a WT4. What should I know?

So, I just bought a 2024 WT4 for what I think is a great deal with low milage. Been looking for months, dreaming about getting one eventually and this one popped up on my radar this morning and jumped on it. I'm a long time Tesla owner and now jumping brands *because reasons* but honestly I really wanted a proper pickup.

I have driven one but what I'd like to know from owners is what I should I know about the truck and what accessories do you think I should get eg: tonneau cover. Yes I know the software jank compared to Tesla but at least the WT4 has Carplay/AA.

Happy to hear your thoughts!

Level 1 Charger with Long Cord — Recommendations?

I’m thinking about picking up a Level 1 charger for occasional use (like beach rentals, etc.). The GM one is out of stock and seems a bit pricey for something I won’t use often.

Does anyone have a Level 1 charger they’d recommend—preferably with a longer cord since outlet locations can be unpredictable?

Tire Question

I think I found a good deal for a 2024 3wt with 69 miles on it for 47500. One of the questions I have about it is the tire size. It doesn’t have the stock wheels/tires. The current tire LT285 60r20 125/122s. The spare is a 65r18 118/115s. If I should need the spare would it be temporarily useable to get me a tire shop? Concerned it will be a bit too small with the 20inch tires.

Secondary question. How much range should I expect to lose with the larger tires ?

Automatic Tow Setting

Every time I put my mountain bike on a truck pad over the tailgate, the truck thinks I am pulling a trailer and will automatically set it as such. Does anybody know how to override this setting? I have googled the problem, but can't really find much about it.

Tire Pressure Sensors

I just put my summer tires back on (factory), and the pressure sensors won't pair. I ran the relearn which is connecting to all 4 tires, but after a few drives it loses the pairing. Anybody dealt with this? 2026 WT

One week in and no regrets

3rd full EV for us. Wife drives a 2023 ID4pros. I have 700 miles a week to drive and needed a new commuter and something to haul boats.

Im impressed beyond. Great highway truck, supercruise all the way to work.

2024 RST biggest battery 8500 miles paid 61k in the southeast. I think thats a good price for this truck.
