hello, i’m looking to get into sewing as i’m trying to make a interior for my car. i’m planning on stitching together leather and 1/4inch foam backing mainly for the materials. people are saying to geta heavy duty machine but this is for a one time project and on a budget. there or plenty on facebook used but i don’t know what im looking for tbh?
The general consensus around her is that Singer Heavy Duty machines should be avoided, but if that is the case, should Husqvarna machines be avoided as well as they are owned by the same parent company that owns Singer?
I am looking for a new sewing machine now and had settled on the Husqvarna Onyx 30, but a video I saw earlier this evening showed a number of examples of one company producing two different manufacturers machines, both identical with a slightly different style or colour but charging more for the privilege (there were a couple of Janome/Elna and Brother/Baby Lock listed). Knowing Husqvarna is owned by the same company that owns Singer, I checked a few pictures and the Singer HD6805c is basically the same machine as the Husqvarna Onyx 30, only a different colour, style and is £80 cheaper than the SInger machine.
What attracted me to the Husqvarna brand was a variety of opinions on here, that they were a good brand with decent machines, but how can that be so if the insides are the same as a machine that people say to avoid? I'm not trying to annoy or irritate anyone here, I'm trying to make the right purchase decision for myself and I need to know whether I'm making a mistake buying the Husqvarna machine when it is essentially a Singer HD in disguise - or is it the other way (a Husqvarna in Singer clothing)
Help! I was just about to order the Onyx30 machine and now I'm not sure anymore.
I’ve watched a handful of videos and as far as I know, I’m installing the shuttle hook correctly but I can’t sew more than 2 stitches without my machine jamming/ threads looping into a jangled mess down below. It seems like something is off with the tension?
Any advice? This is a brother LS-2125
What sewing machine can I buy for at home that can sew thick fabric like suede sewn on top of shearling fur? Trying to make a jacket. Not sure what to buy.
I got it because I plan on working with some thicker fabrics and sewing through a lot of layers at once but I keep jamming it and idk if that's because it's harder to use than a normal sewing machine or what
Very new to sewing, and am browsing facebook marketplace for machines - I've done some research but honestly it was such information overload I feel like I learned nothing.
The options are: Brother Sewing Machine XL2600i for $40, Brother XR 3774 for $95, Singer Touch and Sew (not sure which model specifically) for $85, and Singer Heavy Duty HD6600C for $180
Do any of these stand out/seem worth it? Or should I browse for some more options? Ik the HD6600 is pretty popular, but it's an hour's drive and so much more expensive. Also, anything I need to watch out for to be included with the machines like power cords?
Sorry if this isn't the right place to post - and I appreciate any input!!
Whats the best sewing machine but affordable for making all type of clothes? I mean everything, from pants to tops, denim , stretchy fabric, cotton, everything u can think of
I thrifted this sewing machine yesterday and tested it, and it seemed to be working fine. Today, I tried it again, and this happened. I searched for videos explaining the issue, but I couldn’t find anything. Anyone know what’s wrong and how to fix it? It’s a Stitch’n Time from Sears I believe.
I’ve stripped it down and I can’t find the jam at all! Any ideas? Won’t turn over at all. Won’t manually turn either.
My grandma has an older Viking machine that belonged to her mom. Unfortunately the belt needs to be replaced. She’s having trouble finding one so I offered to help. Does anyone know what model I would need or what I should be looking for? The pic is from when it was purchased and I think the machine is model 51A. Thanks!
I have a Pfaff 130 that I picked up at the Habitat for Humanity Store. It had a brand new motor on it. I took it for a good professional cleaning and oiling. When I got it home, it sews well but I noticed that the motor got very hot while sewing. So hot that I stopped sewing with it. I know nothing about the motor, but the service technician didn't say anything about it being the wrong motor or anything. HELP! I want to love this machine, but not if I can't sew with it for fear of fire. Thanks
The problem occurs when I do zigzag or when reducing the width to below 1.5 on a straight stitch. The needle doesn’t seem to be catching the bobbin thread then.
What I’ve tried: cleaning, new needle and thread (showed sewing shop assistant my fabric and took the recommendation: jeans needle for my heavy cotton fabric), varying the tension to experiment, and finally adjusting the timing (following the instructions in the service manual; I’m pretty sure I did that adequately, but maybe the margin for error is very narrow. I changed nothing else, only followed instructions for checking different positions but not very thoroughly, perhaps I missed something else.) None of this made a difference.
What could be the issue and what else could I try before handing the machine in for professional service? Thanks!
This Singer 8280 had been sitting in its box in storage for over 5 years now and had only recently been taken out to be used for the first time. Having sat unused for so long, it needed to be opened up, and a lot of TLC and WD-40 to get stuck parts moving again.
During a brief test run of the machine, it started to make a loud rattling noise inside its head above where the needle is, and before long, it got stuck. I opened up the cover over the machine's head and saw that it was the mechanism of the thread take-up lever getting stuck in places it shouldn't be reaching and noticed while the machine ran that it had a wild and erratic movement (as shown in the video) unlike any that I've seen in videos online.
Is there any way to fix this?
I am planning to make a denim pants business. What good sewing machine is good for denim? I an not planning to put other complicated stitches, just thr basic ones

Hi! I am looking for advice tips etc
I am hoping to fix my janome hd3000be without taking it into a store. I keep running into the same issue where it’s just kind of not keeping consistent hold of the thread leading to skipped stitches. I’ve adjusted just about everything I could read online including cleaning out the bobbin area, looking for nicks, replacing the needle plate, messing with the tension changing the needle ecetera. The best way to describe the issue is I see the thread go limp after a few stitches. Any advice is very much appreciated!
Hey Folks! I have found and bought this sewing machine from a thrift store (it was only like 10€). I like to sew, have been sewing with my hands for a while but I would like to get this puppy up and running if possible.
Does anyone here have any experience with these older pieces?.
