the size difference is comical

Just received the ilyoon in the mail and whoa this thing is huge! it looks ridiculously large on my skincare shelf. looks like it was made for a giant with large hands lol.

aestura was $32 from sephora, 80mL. ilyoon was $20 from stylevana for 230mL. the value difference is insane!!

i was loving aestura but finally realized the niacinamide in it was making me super clogged, itchy, red, and breaking out. i’m excited to try ilyoon. excited to try the ilyoon especially because this tube is a lifetime supply

Anyone use Hypochlorous acid spray face mists?

Hi all!

Anyone use Hypochlorous acid spray face mists?

My derm recommended this one and it’s great!

There are of course other brands!

Shoutout if you’re a fan of Hypochlorous acid and how/when you use it and how you think it benefits you.

I spray a bit on my face every morning then continue onto my AM routine.

What is Hypochlorous acid:

‘A natural, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory compound that acts as a gentle, effective treatment for acne, eczema, rosacea, and wound healing. It kills bacteria, reduces redness, and soothes irritation without causing dryness or damaging the skin barrier, making it ideal for sensitive skin.’

What’s one product you stopped using that your skin thanked you for?

I used to use so many different actives all in the same routine without ever building up to it. Like I'm talking azelaic acid, adapalene and benzoyl peroxide all at once hahaha so after stopping that my skin improved so much.

How about you guys?

Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer?

I’ve been using this for a while and curious of everyone’s opinions of this? By the ingredient list it seems perfect but I don’t see it mentioned here much

seoul/olive young beauty purchases

Just got back from a trip to Seoul where I shopped at Olive Young 5 separate times over the course of two weeks. But I tried not to go overboard and mostly bought staples of my existing skincare staples when I saw them for a better price than the global site.

Skin care:

  • Round lab cleansing oil - nice cleansing oil, not really special as compared to other cleansing oils I just buy it over other brands because it looks nice on my shelf with their toner, which is an HG. It also came with a sample of their foaming cleanser which everyone seems to love but I find too drying.
  • Round lab dokdo toner 2x300ml. My absolute number one skincare product other than sunscreen. Yes it feels like water, yes it's hard to know if it's really doing anything, but whenever I stop using it, I can tell.
  • purito centella unscented serum - another HG workhorse calming and hydrating product that has been in my routine for years
  • Tocobo lip mask - I haven't tried this one yet but i'm going to make this my night lip mask when i finish the eadem one I am almost out of
  • Fromrier sunscreen - i cant believe I only came back with three sunscreens (got a third bottle of this that went in my carry on) but I stocked up hard right before tarriffs so i still have a lot to work through before I buy any more. This formula is so water-light and natural in finish though that I couldn't stand to come home without a few bottles.
  • Rejuran pore tightening ampoule - was given this as a sample, haven;t been wowed by any PDRN products yet but this also has LHA/AHA/BHA/PHAs so might at least be a nice exfoliator
  • Melatoning cream - I got this to work on dark spots as you can't buy hydroquinone over the counter in the US but I will wait to use it in fall/winter when I have less sun exposure. Note that if you buy this you have to cycle usage to prevent rebound pigmentation, usually 2 months on 2 months off is recommended. This is the only thing I got at a pharmacy, not OY.
  • Assorted sheet masks - torriden is my favorite, and then I got a few from celimax, numbuzin, and hanyul to try. I don't expect much of these, but they're helping to rehydrate me after that long flight.

Hair care:

  • dr forhair folligen shampoo - I use this as a once a week lightly clarifying shampoo, makes my hair feel really light and feathery. No idea if it actually helps with hair growth.
  • Dr forhair folligen scalp tonic - this on the other hand has definitely helped with hair growth in my experience. I've gone through several bottles, but this is my first time using the new reformulation so I'm interested to see if it works as well
  • UNOVE deep damage treatment ex mask double pack- this is very rich I have fine wavy hair so I can't use this tooo often but it does weigh my hair down *less* than other deep conditioners I've used and it makes my hair SOOOO so soft. This 1+1 pack is currently listed for $68 on the olive young global website but it was on sale for 29,000 won in store (regular price 38,000) which is about $20 USD so this felt like a great deal.

Body care

  • illiyoon top to toe wash & lliyoon ceramide ato body lotion - Neither of these are anything super exciting but they work well with my sensitive eczema prone body skin.
  • Celimax Vita A Retinal Tightening shot booster. This is sold as a facial retinol product, not body care, but I already use tretinoin on my face so I bought this to use on the backs of my hands at night because I'm trying to step up my hand care.
  • MD Pick Debarista SPF hand cream - and because I'm using a retinol on my hands now I bought an spf hand cream to make sure I'm reapplying throughout the say. This is really nice and lightweight without the residue/shininess that face spfs usually leave.

makeup/tools:

  • BBIA last autogel eye liner in Noir (black) Jazz (dark brown with a little bit of shimmer) Almond beige (cool mid-tone brown) and Moon Shower (neutral champagne shimmer) - i loooove how fine a line these make, and moon shower is stunning on the lower lash line especially.
  • fillimilli preglued individual lashes. I'm not usually a fake lash wearer because I'm not good at application but these seem pretty hard to mess up
  • Fillimilli makeup puffs. My complexion is too dark for the standard cushion foundation shade range but I want to try that application style with my own liquid foundation
  • Olive Young branded eyebrow razors. I use them to clean up my brows and remove facial hair. They were only 2000 Won for a two pack so I bought 4.
  • Careplus calming pimple patches - assorted sizes. The wide version make excellent blister bandaids if you find your feet hurting from all the walking you're doing on vacation
  • Careplus UV pimple patches - Regular pimple patch but supposedly has some sun protection built in. I'm trying these to help keep the sun spots I had lasered off at a skin clinic from darkening again over the summer.

Not pictured:

  • Skincare i bought for my sister in law (Beplain mung bean cleanser, Aestura Atobarrier 365 cream, Realbarrier sunscreen)
  • Multiple bags of the delight project dried peaches from the snack section. I'm obsessed with those things.

What Reddit Says Is Wrecking Your Skin Barrier

After the skin barrier repair post, a few of you asked for the flip side: what's actually wrecking your barrier in the first place. So I went back through the same 1,700+ threads and looked at what products people were using right before things went wrong.

Almost everything on this list is an active. Glycolic acid, adapalene, BHA, tretinoin, azelaic acid. These are not bad products — most of them are genuinely effective and people love them — but they show up constantly in posts where someone is describing wrecked, reactive, or peeling skin. The issue isn't the product, it's usually the combination, the frequency, or the introduction speed.

The one that surprised me is the Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser at #8. It's supposed to be one of the safest options out there, and 52% of mentions are still positive. But a small group consistently reports it drying them out, which is worth knowing if you're already compromised.

The takeaway isn't to avoid these products. It's that if your skin barrier is struggling right now, one of these is probably involved. Pick one to pause, load up on the boring stuff from the other list, and give it a few weeks.

Aluminium free, non comodegenic sunsreen recommendations please

I was so close to choosing the Beauty of Joseon sunscreens, but these reviews have put me off

Does anyone have recommendations for an aluminum free, non comodegenic sun screen. I recently bought tirtir azaelic acid, so I'm going to need a sunscreen

I'm looking for 1 without aluminium, no whitecast & isn’t going to break me out & give more whiteheads

Does anyone agree with those Beauty of Joseon reviews

Thank you

Safe Products (Lotion)

Wondering if anyone has had similar issues with the recent formula change in Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion? I’m unable to use it anymore because it causes burning, irritation , contact dermatitis, and stripped skin immediately after. I’ve even tried watering it down or using with some aloe Vera gel but still have bad reaction.

Not sure if I’d have luck with Vanicream lotion since I did react badly to the bar soap and face wash. I do have to water down the body wash in order to use it (otherwise strips and irritates my skin). I have seborrheic dermatitis and hypersensitive skin so it’s hard to find something that won’t cause flare up or irritate my skin.

*I also use Vanicream gel deodorant since I can’t use the regular antiperspirant or any other ones (tried fragrance free, all natural, crystal deodorant, etc..)

The best Hada Labo products for oily sensitive skin

To begin with, I have to say it’s the best hada lab products for oily, acne-prone skin. I know many might like their premium version but I don’t think oily skin can apply in the daytime, especially if you live in a humid, hot climate. I felt the premium one hard to absorb. It’s fine if you use a little of it before bed but why not choose a better one if we have choice. This light version gives you enough moisture while don’t make your face greasy. I often use it before applying my sunscreen. You can literally just default to this one.

Anyone who hasn’t tried this cleanser, PLZ just use it!

Anyone who has a sensitive skin should try this moisturizer. I’ve already ordered my sec bottle. It’s a foaming cleanser so no need to lather. Above all, it won’t strip your skin at all while leaving it clean. I’ve tried Cetaphil’s gentle cleanser before and that one was good too, but you still need to lather it and that one would leave you a lingering sense. If you have flare up, eczema, you can use Curel moisturizer, which is a GREAT combo with this cleanser. 10/10. Do you have any cleanser recommendations?
