Section 8 is forcing me and my mother to be homeless and there’s nothing we can do about it

So basically what happened is we were supposed to move on June 1st to another apartment, they already accepted us and my mom already gave the notice to our current apartment that we are moving out, and this apartment has already rented it to another person so we HAVE TO leave June 1st.

However a few days ago they told my mom that our new apartment has no certificate or they lost the certificate that section 8 needs or something and if they don’t get the paperwork that they need in by Friday then section 8 can’t do the mandatory inspection of the apartment and then we can’t move in. However the irs doesn’t have the certificate for that specific building/unit so they can’t give that to them fast enough. So now we have nowhere to live. They have been dealing with this problem for weeks now and I’ve already accepted that it’s not going to be resolved before Friday .

I’m sorry if I got the details wrong because I’m only 17 and I’m not the person in charge. They told my mom that apparently hundreds of people are also having this same problem and they are in no rush to solve it apparently.

We are trying to find a new apartment but so far no one has gotten back to us and even if they did we would still have to be homeless for a few weeks before everything gets approved, and I’m afraid that every other landlord or apartment building is going to be having this same issue if they haven’t worked with section 8 before.

My mom offered to pay the full rent instead but the apartment said no because apparently they aren’t allowed to so they’d prefer if we just stayed homeless. There’s literally nothing we can do and I can’t stop crying I’m so upset is there anything at all we could do in this situation?? We are most likely going to be in a shelter or a motel for weeks, maybe even months before we find a new place.

Help yourself

You live in a luxury apartment by the beach. Your rent is zero and you actually get a check from the housing authority for your utilities.

I helped you, I liked you. You wanted to move to be closer to a loved one, to help out. I processed the paperwork, inspection, tracked down your 30 day notice from your current landlord.

Fast forward, you disagreed with your new landlord about parking and some other things.

You contacted me and apologized for any inconvenience and said you would like to stay where you are.

I got an email from your landlord, that you have been smoking in your “non-smoking” unit and building. That you also have a male living here that is not included in the household.

Your current, luxury apartment landlord emailed me today that you are DEFINITELY smoking (not just cigarettes) in your unit and there is also an unnamed, male very much living there.

I hate this situation. I don’t want to be a part of you losing your Section 8 voucher, but shit, you are making It very difficult.

Try a little, will ya?

HA saying my original housing authority was the one I ported to…

Now to contact them to port again? I always thought they’d send it back to HA that did the first port? So confusing.

I have a cousin who refuses to work. 35 years old. Fully capable, 100% healthy. Just lazy and free loader. He lives with his parents section 8 housing apartment but applied to get his own. His parents still pay for all his bills, food, cook for him clean his bathroom etc. if his parents ask of any little thing of him he throws a huge tantrum etc.

How is this possible? Why is this ok? Shouldn’t section 8 be for family struggling to make ends meet, not some 35 year old fully capable adult.

It’s totally cool if he had some sort of disability or if the job market sucked. But I’m talking about a fully functional usa citizen 100% fluent with his hs diploma and some community college degrees. Why does section 8 give people like this housing when there are people who really need it like veterans or disabled people.

Section 8- Porting question

Has anyone else been told by Section 8 / Housing Choice Voucher that they can’t port out of Rhode Island because of “lack of funding”?
I was told I may not be able to move or port my voucher due to funding issues in this state, and I’m trying to figure out if this is happening to other people too or if anyone has successfully ported recently.
If you’ve dealt with this:
What housing authority are you through?
Were you eventually allowed to port?
Did they give you anything in writing?
How long did the process take?
I’m just trying to understand whether this is a statewide issue or something specific to my case.

Starting as a Section 8 Landlord

I’m considering becoming a section 8 landlord for my single family home in SC near the Charlotte, NC border.

Landlords: What do you wish you would have known or prepared for as a section 8 landlord? How many of you offer pet friendly rentals?
(I have already done my research with York county regarding the process)

*My property is an updated 1090 sq ft 2 bed/1 bath home on .75 acres near a university, 3 minute drive to the downtown area, safe quiet area, walking distance to a lake and nice parks, with a huge fenced in back yard.

The lady was extremely rude and basically bitched the entire time. When I asked her what the major problems were she simply pulled the paper out of my hands and went over the list of things to have clean.

My apartment was more messy than usual, but I’ve never had an inspector this strict. Also I got a email I need a shower curtain for my second bathroom even though I don’t use it(I live alone). Of course that’s coming out of my pocket

Sorry for the rant but I hate these fuckers

Section 8 voucher holder, and the landlord keeps saying the voucher program rules don't require ESA accommodations. That the FHA works differently for subsidized housing. That does not sound right but it's hard to know how to push back when the landlord is citing the program itself as the reason. Are Section 8 landlords held to the same FHA standards as everyone else on ESA requests, is there some carve-out?

County Health Department & my Apartment Complex

I've been living at my 2-bdrm apartment complex for 9y, & never hand any issues. I've literally received brand new stove & air conditioner when they went. This past January my very old refrigerator was going, of course the new property manager, who's also my roommate's brother's ex, & she despises my roommate (his brother is now maintenance supervisor too, & he's been ignoring my roommate/his brother for a year) - long story shorter - Fridge went totally in February or March, replacement was decent, but the doors were on the wrong side (apparently they can be easily switched) I requested a work orders for a switch, didn't hear nothing for a week, then then they would lie, 1st the "servers" were down, then weeks go by saying "were waiting on the parts", then a week or so later, I run into my roommate's brother & kindly asked "about the parts" very next day they came & did all the repairs & they literally took/stole my nicer fridge & replaced it with a 20y very small & dirty fridge - I didn't notice, until he was gone WTF - worse this fridge is garbage, the freezer doesn't freeze anything, the fridge is hardly cold & I called Maintenance to tell them it's not working correctly, he came in & check the temp & basically said it is fine

- Oh & throughout the month I even contacted the Regional Manager & Housing & they're making us out like the bad guys.

- QUESTION, I guess my next step is contacting my County's Health Dept. - I'm curious has anyone ever experienced such petty b.s, & had to call the Health Dept?

- Reason my complex did repairs, I had a Housing inspection on April 14th (sadly he stated as long as the fridge works, then your good, basically no assistance, & at the time he's right) but the hell we've been through... Noone should have to deal with this

Housing authority not paying rent on time

My rent is due by the third of the month but the housing authority isn't paying it til the 10th of the month, which means I'm getting hit with a $50 late fee every month. I contacted the housing authority and they said they have until the 10th to pay their portion of the rent.

Is there anything I can do about this?

Section 8 (MN) Landlord is telling me I can’t move

I live in Minnesota and have section 8 when I initially moved here one year ago in July I was coming from another state so the landlord told me I had to be at the new rental property by 5pm to sign the lease or I wouldn’t get my keys and be allowed to move in. I made it to the property at 4:58pm and the landlord was in a rush to leave so we only briefly skimmed over the leasing agreement. Fast forward to now and i am preparing to move and my landlord says my lease I signed was for 2 years, I didn’t notice that when I signed it last year and to my knowledge section 8 only allows 1 year leases at the most. Talked to section 8 worker and they confirmed they only sign 1 year leases and was actually notified that the lease was amended to 1 year to match section 8 terms of agreement. Nonetheless my landlord is rejecting ever attempt of me to notify them that I am leaving in July and says they will sue me for the other 12 months that I “agreed upon” on the initial lease and when I ask section 8 they just keep giving me vague answers and telling me they will get to me later. So I’m asking has anyone been through this issue or have any knowledge about how this will play out and should I prepare to stash or move or get ready to go to court?

My application says it was removed due to DNQ occupancy. What does that mean?

I left them a voicemail and am waiting to hear back. Do any of you know what this means? I got an email from them yesterday saying my application was accepted.

Location:Portland Oregon

So most of us in household are all citizens expect for my two 18+ brothers. My rent went up drastically about 800 dollars. Which is ridiculous. It’s not even my renewal time. I called & they said because of “trumps new law”.. that raised undocumented people’s rent..I was at 1700 now I’m going to pay about 2,500 which is ridiculous. No one else in my family works but me I’m the main source of income. My job is going to be slowing down. And I’ll report it. But will I still be forced to pay those 2,500?(of course my rent fluctuates according to my income.)

I’m not sure if that’s legal or if trumps law actually did go in effect & if it specifies what I’ve been told by the manager.

Any tips on what I can do?? Anyone else got that letter? Any one else going through the same thing?

Could someone please analyze this for me and tell me what I should do next?

Long story short I live under my landlady.

It’s been a myriad of issues since I been there ( one being her son in law peed under my window)

But now I have an issue. She had Someone paint my bathtub with wall paint. It’s now chipping badly and it I don’t hurry and clean it after a shower it fills the tub with dirty water.

After two years of not getting fixed I complained

I have my nieces there every weekend Im order to take them to church. I can’t bathe them in that

So I explained it his to her grandson ( the one who showed me the apartment. He said basically “ you have nieces there and that is making my grandmother water bill higher “.

These people are already getting over by charging section 8 1400 a month and the apartment has had roaches, I have had plumbing issues, and now rats are upstairs and she only treated her apartment.

Every time there’s a problem she always asks “ when are you going month to month “?

I have never been late with my portion of the rent ( 347.00) and I have put up with so much from this woman.

Could someone please explain am
I wrong for asking to have the tub repaired?

And am I wrong for having my nieces over every weekend?

I don’t even bathe them much.

Please any advice would be appreciatedbathtub
