Some friends DMed me and asking about Chanel Preppy bags, so I decided to put together a little side-by-side comparison to help you guys know what to look for.
Last week, I finally got my hands on a "superfake" tier one that I ordered. (I also have a yellow one on the way, but it hasn't shown up yet). To give you guys a real comparison, I bought the exact same bag from a TS who said it's "top-tier quality from 187 Factory."
Note: Chinese rep sellers have a shared image library, so if you inquire about the same bag with several different sellers, they may send you the same pictures, but their prices may vary significantly, and in reality, their quality also varies greatly. These pictures are taken by the factories and provided to the shared image library. Therefore, don't trust the pictures they send you. The best approach is to ask the seller to take a video of your bag being inspected (but the seller may require you to pay first before they can retrieve your bag from their warehouse and take the video; my seller did this, but you need to confirm with the seller that if you see the video and are not satisfied with the quality, you can get a full refund).
A disclaimer before we get into it: My conclusions are based on comparing these two specific reps against authentic bags I handled in-store. I wasn't about to drop the cash on the real one just for this experiment, so I don't have side-by-side photos with the real deal. Also, I just snapped these pictures with my iPhone. The lighting isn't studio quality and cameras can wash out details, so I’ll try to describe the physical differences that the photos might miss.
At first glance (Pics 1 & 2): Honestly, if you put these two next to each other, they look basically indistinguishable at first glance. I totally get why so many buyers fall for this. If you don't know exactly what to look for and are just going off overall appearance, it's incredibly easy to get fooled. Even lower-tier counterfeits have gotten really good at mimicking the basic look, which leads a lot of people to mistakenly believe they scored the highest quality version when they really haven't.
Shape & Structure (Pic 3): Here's where the differences start showing up. If you look at the third image, the bag on the left (the superfake) holds its shape much better. It’s got a more structured, rigid shape to it. The 187 bag on the right looks a bit flatter and more slender overall.
The Hardware (Pic 4): This photo shows the hardware on the superfake (top) versus the 187 bag (bottom). It might not jump out at you on a screen, but the tactile difference is huge. The hardware on the top bag just feels more substantial—it has that heavy, textured weight you expect from luxury. The bottom bag’s hardware is decent, but that specific finish is going to start showing wear, tear, and fading after just a few months of regular use.
The Straps (Pic 6): Finally, check out the sixth picture for the shoulder straps. The superfake strap on the left is actually a tiny bit narrower than the 187 on the right. You'd probably never notice this out in the wild, but placed side-by-side, the difference is definitely there.
In the end, both bags are decent. But let's be real: the so-called 187 factory bag, which is practically worshipped on some of these subs, clearly doesn't touch the superfake quality standards.
I really want to drill this home for newer buyers—these famous factory names you see constantly pushed on Reddit (187, God Factory, etc.) are mostly just marketing gimmicks. Take it from someone who has actually navigated the rep market: these labels often only exist on Reddit to justify a markup. If you buy the same bag from two different sellers who both claim to be sourcing from 187 or God, you are highly likely to get 2 different bags of different quality.
