NWSL Attendance Report - Week 7

Just a reminder, this is a YOY league wide tracker to keep an eye on broader attendance trends across the league.

I trust everyone reading this is intelligent enough to interpret the context (weather, weeknight games, stadium issues) some teams face without having me to provide team by team explanation on why the numbers are down YOY. This includes the people who decide to complain about the post I've been doing for 2 years now. If you want to see something else, the data is freely available; I can't wait to see what you come up with.

* Week 7 had the 6th largest average attendance in a week this year.

* This doesn't count the Bay game, which I can't find on the league website, Steve Goff's feed, ESPN, or Fotmob.

* Angel City & Gotham had their highest number of the season. Utah had their lowest.

* The league is 2.6% above last year before what should be a summer bump. It's still tracking about 4% behind 2024.

* Angel City

Matchday Promotions: Good ones and silly ones

Ever since the thread about year on year attendance stats and the soccer that the Reign are currently putting on the field as a product I've been thinking over the "just play better soccer" comments. (Which I agree with by the way)

But guess what! Teams aren't built in a day, or a single signing, or a new coach (although all three would help)

So, in the interim:

What promotion would get you to attend a game?

What promotion would sell out the stadium?

What promotion would the ownership group change after one game because it was too good?

And what promotion would just be good fun?

4 games without a goal

Self evidently we need a forward (or 3) but at what point do we start holding people responsible?

Harvey can’t put together a lineup that can score. Fans aren’t booing yet but realistically I think we should have started already.

Seat/section recommendations

i will be going to my first Seattle Reign game on August 9, while visiting family in Seattle 😁 I was looking for some advice on section/seat recommendations.

Some additional context, I regularly go to Gotham games and have some preferred sections. I usually sit a few sections away from Cloud 9 behind the corner flag, or behind the goal opppsite of cloud 9 (former keeper so I have a soft spot for watching from that angle and I enjoy being near the drumming and singing) or I sit in the section at midfield in the back row. Gotham only has the lower bowl of the stadium open for seating, so I have never watched a game from second level seating

Even more additional context- i am taking my 7 year old daughter with me as well as 2 family members who have never gone to a professional soccer game. I know I am over thinking this seating situation - however any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciate!!

TL:DR- I did find a 4 year old post of someone asking this same question, but wanted to see if the advice given still applies. As a former Gotham season ticket holder I have experienced sections and seating inside a stadium can change from season to season - however said changes may be due to the change of ownership of the stadium itself 🤷

I promise to bring lots of GO SEATTLE REIGN energy with me for the game (please don’t hold my Gotham fandom against me - lol)

Traveling Spirit fan at the match yesterday.

Hello, I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed my time at the match yesterday getting to experience Lumen Field. It was my first time experiencing an away game in the NWSL and Seattle was a cool place to get to do it.
The Reign fans were a nice and welcoming crowd, your chants/cheers were solid, and I even got the chance to chat with a supporter wearing an orange hair bow about our mutual appreciation for Brittany Ratcliffe after the match.
Y’all are a good fan base with a lot of heart and hope to see the local love for the Reign grow in the coming seasons.

Squad from My POV ( need help with some players)

I've been watching since after the euros last year. I almost stopped watching but they've decided to at least not play full sufferball this season. I'm starting to understand some of the roles being played, but I can't figure out a few people.

Dickey - Sweeper keeper. I don't know if I'm just too old school but I dislike how much she comes out. However, she's a solid 9/10.

Mercado - Need more observeration.

Dahlien - She went from a 0/10 last season to a 9/10 at the beginning of this season and I think I need to pull her back to like a 6/10. Last season she didn't press at all. She waited for service, never went to the ball. I thought it was coaching, because she did a lot of good things beginning of this season. Now, she's standing around again.

Biyendolo - Never seen her play.

Adames - 8/10. Even during sufferball, she presses. She tries to create chances. Why isn't she being played more?

James-Turner - I'm not sure what she does. Need more observation.

Fishlock - Playmaker. Captain. Engine of the team. 10/10. No notes.

Huerta - A lot of the play goes through her. She puts in the distance. I think her wing play needs improvement. 7/10.

Ward - I don't think she's played much. From what I've seen, I'm not impressed. 3/10.

Ratcliffe - I love bow tie. She has hustle. Yes, sometimes the things she tries are ineffective. But she does different things instead of the same thing over and over (but still failing). 9/10

Mason - I've only really noticed her for one game. She seems generally solid. 7/10

McCammon - Need more observation. I don't think I'm good at judging midfielders.

Menti - I am honestly not sure what her role in the squad is.

O'Steen - Never seen her play

Fishel - She has moments of brilliance. I think she's a true 9? 8/10

Meza - Her default is to pass back. Otherwise, she's very good at winning the ball back and has excellent ball control. 8/10

McClernon - I miss her pig tails. Seems solid, but slow. 8/10.

Brown - Only seen her for one game. Porbably need to observe more.

Bugg - Never seen her play

Curry - I'm pretty impressed. I think she's a bit erratic in the offensive half, but I'm not mad at it. 8/10

Holmes - I haven't been ablel to form an opinion

Mondesir - She has moments of brilliance, but I haven't figured out what role she's supposed to be.

Hladek - Never seen her play.

Purcell - Never seen her play

Cedeno - Never seen her play

Miller - Never seen her play.

Can someone help fill in the data for playeres I need to observe more or haven't seen play?

How do I get my discount for online merch as a season ticket holder?

Am I missing something in the app? Or do I need to email my rep for a code or something? TIA

I was late getting back home but game was also late starting Tuned in at 8:10 Eastern and was only 2 minutes in

No goals yet, solid stops by Claw-dia

Fishel starting with Fishlock out, main thing I noticed in the lineup

Multitasking with the Sabres game, hope I'm not too distracted. Dahlien and Dahlin you could say
