Is this too much rust?

My wife spotted a late 2nd gen Firebird (base) in our area for $2500 or best cash offer. Clean title, 350 2 barrel 140k miles

Out of the shop finally

Finally out of the shop from a total seal and gasket replacement and tune-up visit. No too shabby for a girl about to turn 30

What is this?

In the center console. The three things press in but don't click or anything and as far as I can tell there's nothing inside. '97 trans am LT1

Edit: solved. Coin holder, haha. I used to just put change in the ashtray. Originally I was hoping to find a second cigarette lighter in here but no dice.

Speedometer

Picture for attention. 91 Firebird Formula TPI that was swapped to a Carb and a 350. ECU is gone and so is all the wiring to it. I have the wiring from the VSS sitting in the engine bay. There’s no external buffer and from the wiring diagrams I could find, the VSS went through the ECU and then to the Speedo. Is there a round about way to get the stock Speedo to function without the factory ECU or am I out of luck and needing to get a GPS speedometer mounted in a gauge pod somewhere on the dash?

Lots of conflicting information online and it looks like GM translates the VSS signal 4 different ways depending on year. I didn’t think a speedometer on a 35 year old car would kick my butt this bad, but here I am. 😂

Just playing around today and thought it’d be good day to blast down a runway at a rural airport in the Ozarks… lol

Long story short, this car has been through so many issues, she is getting dropped off tomorrow, hopefully with the majority of the kinks worked out..

Last pic is the day I got her...

2nd Gen Formula Hood Clearance

PFA: Putting together a Frankenstein build here, 74 Espirit with a 455 believed to be out of a 71 Bonneville, 70-73 front clip and formula hood. I can’t seem to figure out what air cleaner set up I’ll need to clear the formula hood. Everything I’ve tried so far as is too tall.

I‘m a 17-year old and I have this Trans Am just lying around. I’m not much into cars, but this, this car speaks to me and I just want to drive this thing to and from school or the gym. I’m resided in California so smog systems are crucial and I‘m missing the whole system and the turbo. That being said, that’d make it just a Firebird. I really don’t want to sell this car even more because I’ve been told the shell is pristine and can’t relocate. Finding the right ECM with the right PROM is also hell. Anybody have an idea of what I should do?

I was fortunate enough to pick this up back in 2014 while I was still in college for the unbelievable price of $7k. Sold my car at the time and dad helped with a loan of 2k.

Enjoyed it for a couple years, and along the way swapped out the old 2 barrel for a 4 barrel and better intake. Not really much else other than some minor repairs here/there.

School ended and life came fast. Between a career, traveling, and taking care of elderly parents, I eventually garaged it with the hopes of coming back to it someday. It’s been about 10 years now.

I visit my hometown weekly to take care of mom now that dad’s gone, and I’m starting to feel really motivated to get this fired back up. I’m turning 32 this year and it would be great to have this Firebird roadtrip ready (maybe 2-3 hr cruise).

I’m planning on an oil change, inspecting the fuel system (probably going to pull the fuel line and run a clean container of gas while I inspect the actual tank/lines), and slowly turn the motor by hand to make sure nothings seized up before actually attempting to fire up.

I’ve got another list of things to inspect before attempting to take it for a test drive, but would love y’all’s feedback on what else I should inspect.

I don’t have a lot of cash, so I’m doing all this myself. Any tips to save money while I get this road worthy would be appreciated 🙏

Has anyone done an LQ4 swap?

I’m having to swap the lb9 out and I was wondering if anyone had done a 6.0 lq4 swap out of the early 2000s silverados or the 4th gen firebirds, that way I could ask and get some guidance on what all I need to change out and do/ask the shop to do. I have the feeling that the computer and wiring is going to be the worst part but this is my first time doing a swap and I just wanted to ask. Any responses are greatly appreciated.
