Donald Trump told a Florida crowd Friday it was treasonous to call the Iran war a loss, and made Germany pay for saying it first.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had said it Monday in front of high school students. The Americans had no strategy, he told them, and an entire nation was being humiliated. By Friday afternoon the Pentagon was withdrawing 5,000 troops, and 25 percent tariffs were headed for German cars next week.

Trump notified Congress Friday that the war had ended. From Florida he warned that calling it a loss is treasonous. The pullout and the tariffs were Merz's penalty for getting there first. Speaker Mike Johnson, third in line for the presidency, called on Republican-led statehouses today to redraw their congressional maps before November.

Florida had already adopted a new Republican map hours before the Supreme Court ruling came down. Louisiana canceled a primary election that had already begun, so its legislature can redraw two majority-Black districts. By afternoon, Trump was on Truth Social telling Tennessee's governor to "PUSH HARD" on dismantling the state's only majority-Black congressional district.

Up to 18 districts where Black and Hispanic voters outnumber white voters are now threatened because the Voting Rights Act no longer protects them. Memphis is the seat Trump named today. Call your state legislators and demand they stop putting their thumb on the scale.

Edit: I changed the post flair. It was "Voices of Resistance" which was meant for the courageous Election Officials. A Secret Service officer fired four times at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, according to a Washington Post analysis of higher-resolution camera footage.

The footage doesn't capture every shot authorities say was fired, but it shows none from the suspect. An officer was wounded by a round the video doesn't show. The defense calls the government's case "built entirely upon speculation."

That news is overshadowed tonight by the Supreme Court gutting the Voting Rights Act. The 6-3 ruling struck down Louisiana's congressional map, with Justice Elena Kagan writing in dissent that the decision "renders Section 2 all but a dead letter." Louisiana's governor moved tonight to suspend the May 16 primary so his legislature can redraw it. The 1965 law fell at sunrise, and the new map was moving before sunset.

Eighteen other stories ran tonight. Every one matters. If you only have time for one right now, dig into the assassination attempt or the voting rights ruling. Both are destined for the history books.

Tim Kaine tried today to stop a war before it started, and 51 senators said he was too early because there was no war with Cuba.

We have been in an undeclared war in Iran for sixty-two days. Thirteen American servicemembers are dead, gas is at $4.17, and U.S. bases in the region have sustained $5 billion in damage. The Senate had already voted down every war powers resolution on Venezuela and Iran. Today it added Cuba.

Three Republicans broke ranks to even allow the debate. The other 50 told Trump he is free to do whatever he wants to Cuba. Call through 5 Calls and Resistbot and demand your senators stop the next war before it starts.
