My channel is gone. 😭

Hey, folks. I hope you're all having a much better week than I'm having!

Last Sunday evening I fell for an elaborate phishing email that completely took over my gmail account, and my youtube, changed all my recovery info, and also performed a factory reset of my phone which immediately destroyed all my data - 20 years worth of irreplaceable memories, 2 years worth of unedited demo videos, important documents, notes and files, as well as all my music and apps...all gone in the blink of an eye.

When I finally got my phone back on again, and realised that everything on there was now gone, it obviously took me a while to even think about my channel. But when I eventually went and checked, I saw that the hackers had added a slop video on some crypto currency thing.

I obviously tried to recover my gmail account, but the back-up email address on there had been changed, as well as recovery codes and phone number, so there was nothing I could do.

I later found out that the "Find My Phone" feature that I'd set up on there only a few months prior, is what the hackers used to remotely wipe my phone and destroy all my precious data. Ironic, right? 😒

A couple of hours later, my gmail account had been closed, and my youtube channel taken down - I assume by Google, as a preventative measure against further tampering.

8 years worth of content...over 600 demos!....11.3k subscribers.... around £80 worth of vital monthly revenue...all of it is now being held in limbo by the Google gods.

Anyway, I then did the only thing that all the forums said I could do, which was contact @TeamYouTube on X and ask them to help. At present, I've only had one response from them, which said to try the recovery process again (a pointless endeavour, since there's no account to even attempt to log into at this point!) and if I can't do that, come back to them. Which I did. Several times. Now, it's two days later and I'm still waiting for a second response.

Oh! And in the meantime, I also don't have access to my Instagram, as that was tied to my gmail account as well. Fun times.

If anyone wants to help, you can add your voice to my cause and tweet @TeamYouTube about my case. If you do, please tag me as well: @pedalexperiment (yes, I ran out of characters).

Anyway, fingers crossed that I don't have to start over and build a second channel completely from scratch! 🤞🏼

Either way, I urge all of my fellow demoers to protect yourselves! Learn from my mistakes, and make sure you do the following:

• Make sure the gmail that's linked to your youtube isn't linked to anything else.

• Turn on every security measure option available to you.

• Keep a written record of your channel ID, IP address, and AdSense number somewhere safe.

• Be super wary of anyone offering a tempting collaboration - especially if they require you to follow a link to their website and answer some questions.

• Keep a back-up of all your valuable data on either cloud storage or, ideally, an external hard drive or SD card.

Thanks for reading, and thank you to those who have reached out to me to check on me already. I love you guys. 🙏🏼

Normally I spend more time planning my videos than actually making them. This time I did the opposite and improvised the whole thing. After watching it, I'm far from comfortable with it, but best way to get feedback and learn is posting, so what do you think?

Should I stick to thorough planning and mostly faceless, or does this approach have a future?

I value honesty much higher than politeness, so feel free to point out negatives and learning opportunities.
