Origami Horse By Vibrant Hughes

Origami Horse

Size: 4' (cm) x 5' (cm)

Medium: Oil and acrylic

Support: Canvas

After some years of living in Alberta, and finding that my art doesn't have a large audience there, I began pondering how i could make my art more accessible to a prairie based viewer. Having already competed three pieces for my origami series i thought of this as an opportunity to bring a sense of action to these works.

Wild horses are a symbol of the west that is slowly being replaced by dreams of loud engines, and absurdly lifted trucks. In a world where their necessary habitat is being destroyed they could one day be a forgotten feature of the foothills.

Challenging myself to finish paintings

The hardest thing for me as an “artist” (lol) is motivating myself to actually finish the pieces I start, no matter how poorly I think it’s going. Here are some pieces I forced myself to finish even when I wanted to abandon them completely.

The Onion - 15x20cm oil painting on canvas

The more ordinary objects I paint, the more I realise nothing is actually ordinary.
I keep thinking about this while painting lately. Everything is art. Everything can be beautiful if you really look at it 🥹
And now I feel surrounded by subjects to paint. I genuinely don’t know where to jump next 😁
