Whatta Movie.!! 🙇

Took my family to the theatre and when I was expecting the movie to be good,it turned out to be beyond amazing .

Be it the Story telling or casting, even the dialogue and It’s timings ,everything was top notch .

Songs were amazing and the one song was too good and throughout the movie it kept the story alive.

The director (Anupam Pattnaik) has proven his ability through multiple films already and this will not disappoint.

A highly recommended movie

I went to Brundavan hall(Cuttack) . A Sunday show was not filled up to the extent it deserves to,but nevertheless the hope is there.

Please try to make it to the hall to support our own people and movie of our own language. I wish more such movies to come to our halls soon.

Also the director could have waited a little till ରଜ to maximise the ROI. But here audiences are the ones who will decide the fate of the movie. 🍿

I went to Mantra Mugdha with some doubts because of there is no craze in ground level in a small town like mine ! Today the ticket proce is 99 so I went.

But within few minutes it made me hook to the film. It will not bore you till the end.

Music is top notch !!! That one vocal from Ananya Sritam Nanda which is not released yet. Its just Wow. BGM is so good.

Acting is so so good. Sanoj, Manmay , and that other friend, that owner of that Mahal. We really have many good good actors in our Odisha yaar. Its just they are not getting the chance to showcase or no director can use their potential .

Whatever little vfx they have used but it looks fantastic. Colour grading looks great. Finally not that grey reddish unlike most of the odia movies.

Lets come to story now. Story is not something exceptional and new. But its good and you will enjoy it thoroughly. The comedy is good. It will make you laugh throughout the film.

But there is not a strong plot in it. Mantra can see mugdha but why ? How can he see her but not others ? If your movie title is based on the two characters shouldn't you show a great chemistry between them and more depth between them ? Also the bonding between those friends can be shown in more depth.

Some flawss are there but it will keep you hook and you will enjoy it.

People may not be aware of the dynamics of the Odia film business, it's not like the south industry which is front loaded, even shit movies assure certain business as the weekend per sales but by then people realise the quality of the movie it makes peanut business from Monday onwards. While Odia is completely opposite it starts slow and plays a test match, the excitement, show numbers and business grows with the time and word of mouth, ofcourse the movie should be good. #MM is good and accepted by the audience it's a given it will run in theatres for more than 60 days, the second weekend will be bigger than the 1st weekend.

So my friend works with a content marketing agency and he had some passes, so he called me to go with him. I had never attended a movie premiere before, so it was my first time and I was really excited. The event was great. Well known actors, influencers, and many industry people were there. A female host was on stage doing her job. Everyone was happy and excited. Then all of a sudden a crowd rushed in with band baja, holding posters of another Odia movie and shouting its name(starting with "K"). The lead actor, director, and producer of that movie were in the crowd and smiling. They were so loud that the female host on stage was having difficulty speaking into the mic and starting the event. A few of them even came up on stage holding the poster of their movie and started posing for the cameras.

The movie they were shouting about had released one week earlier. My friend told me they had their movie premiere at this same place without any trouble. But now they were intentionally creating a nuisance at another movie’s premiere for no reason.I believe a movie premiere is a big and special day for everyone associated with the film. Treating them like this on their special day is not at all justified.

I understand it’s a public place and their movie is also running in the same theater, and they can come promote their film. But they knew another movie’s premiere was happening and still intentionally did this. I know there is competition and business and everyone wants to do well at the box office. But some mutual respect is expected from everyone, right? Why so much insecurity?

Coming to my movie experience, I watched Mantra Mugdha and I had certain expectations, and it matched them. The story is nothing new with the royal palace and mystery room angle, but the execution, acting, and especially the comedy scenes are really good. Manmay, Dipanwit, Uamakant this trio and Sarthak.. they were soo good. Overall, I liked the movie.

A Silent drop in Between Hyped Films.

In between all Those Hyped Film posters I noticed this one being dropped silently. It looked pretty aesthetic to me. I still listen to the Batare chalu chalu song even today. But do they have any connection to the original song in this film other that Srikant Gautam ?

🎬 As a New Writer From Odisha, Is There Real Scope in Ollywood for Dark Thriller Stories?

Namaskar everyone.

I’m a young writer from Odisha currently developing a mystery-thriller script deeply rooted in Odia culture — Chilika, Konark, Odia slokas, and themes of karma inspired by the Gita.

The story leans more toward grounded psychological tension and raw action rather than commercial masala. Something atmospheric, emotional, and culturally rooted while still feeling modern.

I’ve watched films like Karma, Malyagiri, Pabar, Daman, Kuhudi, Bou Buttu Bhuta and it genuinely made me wonder where Ollywood is heading creatively.

So I wanted to ask honestly:

Is there currently space in Ollywood for darker, more experimental thriller writing from newcomers?

How do unknown writers usually approach the industry here — through assistants, production houses, competitions, or direct networking?

Are script competitions, film festivals, or cold emails to production banners actually useful in Odisha’s industry ecosystem?

I’m an outsider with no film background or connections, but I’m serious about learning the process properly before making random moves.

Would genuinely appreciate practical advice from anyone who has worked around Odia cinema, writing rooms, or production.

Dhanyabad 🙏

Mantra Muugdha BO

As I have said earlier it took day 9 for a good Odia movie to get its highest day collection, our films are completely word of mouth driven, if good it grows with time.

A Rant about state of Odia Cinema

A rant. Open for Criticisms.

Odia films are not talked about outside because they only want to cater to the odia audience.

Saw recent film promos. Showing box office numbers, footfalls, etc.

Not much pan India releases.

We are just happy winning a National award for Best Film in "Odia" Category(news articles don't mention)

Nobody talks about the technical stuffs. Editing or Sound. A colour frame is not good cinematography.

And have we ever won in any technical awards?

No OTTs have any content from Odisha.

When would Netflix put money to dub their content into Odia?

Well some(all lol) gets OTT locked by local apps which may have found an audience outside if the producers are well read enough to sell it outside.
