Hi all, I'm a volunteer at a small museum. We recently cams across this button in our collections (mixed in with a world war one uniform). We think they are United States Civil War buttons, but aren't positive. Any help would be appreciated!

Found these buttons in a jar of buttons my grandmother got from an estate sale a while ago. They dont have any identifying markings on them as far as material goes, but the rim material looks gold, the inlay and eyelet (they are the same piece) seem to be a bronze? But I am not sure of either one. There are also gems of some sort on the outer ring. Also unsure of thier composition, but they seem to look like diamonds.
I have tried looking them up but cannot find anything that matches. If anyone has any information on what these buttons might be or where I can get more info, I would appreciate any help!
Thank you in advance!
If anybody has any information on this old button I'd love to hear it/ read it.
I visited a sewing accessories store to ask about plastic and metal buttons two days ago. I wanted something durable because buttons are used daily on shirts jackets and bags. I also wanted to understand which type customers trust more before spending money on larger sewing projects. But when I checked the products there I felt confused. Some metal buttons looked premium and strong but the prices were much higher than expected. Some plastic buttons looked affordable and lightweight but customer reviews mentioned cracking and fading after regular washing. Some sellers kept saying their buttons are long lasting and perfect for clothing but every product sounded almost the same. I could not trust them. I could not decide confidently.
Then I visited another supplier in the same area. Some companies explained the differences better and showed stainless steel brass resin and polyester button options for different clothing styles. Some products focused on durability and scratch resistance while others focused on lightweight comfort and lower cost. Some still gave mixed answers when I asked about washing performance and long-term appearance. I remembered one time when I used cheaper plastic buttons because the deal looked attractive but later some buttons cracked after repeated use. That experience still stays in my mind. That made me worry again.
To check more variety and options while scrolling many online platforms including alibaba I found many customer reviews comparing plastic and metal buttons for clothing projects. Some products looked affordable but risky for long-term durability. Some looked expensive but more trusted for premium fashion and stronger quality. This made me excited but also confused again.
