MLR Weekly: Longest Tenured Captain Riekert Hattingh, Power Pundit Panel, WER & College news, Picks.

SEATTLE, WA — There is only one player in Major League Rugby who has stayed with the same club since the league began. Through every hit, bruise, and battle, he’s also reached 100 caps as Captain.

That player? Seattle Seawolves legend Riekert Haddingh.

This week on MLR Weekly, host Matt McCarthy sits down with the Seawolves’ backrow enforcer to talk about:

  • Reaching the century mark
  • Surviving life in the trenches
  • His drive to win another MLR Shield
  • And the one thing in MLR that has still escaped him...

not surprised in the end. The Jacks seem not to be firing in sequence with a number of handling errors and the inexplicable repeated kicks into the hands of the fullback who ended up turning it into an attack. The aggressive referee was on the whistle again and again. thankfully the ref talked himself down on two head contact reviews. Although it seemed biased, the ref hit the seawolves quickly too. Although not for a penalty, the ref called out Seattle's time wasting in the second half.

the hardest call to see was the try in the corner on the far side from the stands. It sure looked like the attacking Seattle player, was in touch and did not ground the ball. the Jacks challenged it but there was no solid camera coverage.

With the Jacks playing one down for 20 mins, and two down for 10 mins with this result, I wonder what the result might have been if the Jacks had been at full strength for 80 mins.

pros: great atmosphere at quincy, plenty of food and drink, rugby, referees commentary was played on the PA, additional proper commentary during the game by the announcer.

cons: video production could not pull up plays for review, lots of wasted time, way too many whistles.
