Hi everyone, I can’t quite believe I’m back here. 4 years ago I had a pretty rough experience treating Mgen, largely because of the side effects from moxifloxacin. But I got through it and was cured.

Last week I started to feel some minor urethritis symptoms again though, which totally freaked me out as I’ve been in a committed monogamous relationship for over 2 years… lots of panic and anxiety later and somehow I’ve been diagnosed with Mgen once again and I’m in disbelief… The only explanation is that me or my partner had it before our relationship and it’s only just started to show symptoms, which according to the doctors I’ve seen is biologically possible, if unlikely.

So anyway, I’m trying to stay as strong as possible but I’m of course terrified to be going through this again. I simply cannot take moxi again as I still have lingering side effects years later, so I’m wondering what treatment to push for. I absolutely need to give myself the best chance at curing this in one go…

I have tinnitus which got worse with moxi so I’m concerned about minocycline due to things I’ve read about it causing vestibular issues. So I want to try and get prescribed doxycycline followed by pristinamycin.

I’m based in London and wondering if anyone’s been prescribed this recently by any clinics or doctors they would recommend? And any general words of support or success stories from doxy + pristina combo would be really appreciated. Thanks!

I tested positive for ureaplasma and mycoplasma. It's very possible that i had it for a long time. And i had quite a number of partners. Do i need to call all of them individually and let them know?

Had my appointment Wednesday and the Genital Mycoplasmas NAA, Swab was done. No urination test. Test covered hominis, Gen and ureaplasma.

Doctor said there wasn’t any discharge and I explained I had a tampon in before she came. There was some on there when I discarded during undressing.

Embarrassing but I pop one in for the smell and discharge I get. My period started Friday so I was shocked there wasn’t any when she swabbed. Could this affect testing?

Today all three came back negative. Now I feel discouraged. I tested positive for it in 2023 with chlamydia from partner and was only treated with one pill. Since then symptoms persistent mainly smell, discharge, pain during sex, itching. BV always comes back negative and I’m still prone to yeast infections. Yeast gets treated but smell and discharge appears. My only other thought is birth control hormone shift maybe causing iff balance?

Period ends Tuesday and I’m tempted to retest myself at home or go to a clinic.

Hello everyone! I recently tested positive for MGen, no idea how long I’ve had it or who I could have contracted it from as I was asymptomatic. I went to the doctor a month after a cured UTI thinking I was getting another one, after testing negative for another UTI, my doctor decided to run more labs, one of which being MGen. I was positive, however my resistance panel was negative. Now the issue I run into is that I’m allergic to Doxycycline, so I was only given the Azithromycin for 4 days (1g for one day, 500 mg for 3) since I had no resistance. I did my course, and unfortunately the treatment failed and I have to try something else. What would be the most effective treatment for someone unable to do the initial course of doxycycline? All I see is the 7-10 days of doxy combined with other antibiotics, and while I’m sure it’s great for those who are able to take it, that won’t be possible for me. Does anyone have any anecdotes for me? Or maybe just some information to help me from feeling like I may be at a loss here?

Hello! I had a positive Ureaplasma spp NAA

I am seven days into my doxy treatment. And am planning on taking 7 more days with the z pak finisher. And I am having discharge. I cannot tell if this means the treatment is working and the infection is clearing or if the treatment is not working, and that I should switch to do moxifloxin.

The main symptom before treatment would be 2-3 hrs of dark blood discharge the day after a fingering session. Only fingering. Sometimes there would be very little fresh blood, but mostly dark blood with mucus.

It is a little alarming to see it happening starting day 5-7, without any manual manipulation.

What are your thoughts?

Female, symptomatic Mgen, negative test of cure — sharing my experience because I spiraled hard during this process and Reddit posts were one of the only things that helped me feel less alone.

A few takeaways upfront:
- Use condoms unless you are as close to 100% certain as possible about exclusivity/testing.
- If you think you may have been exposed, push for a NAAT/PCR test specifically for Mycoplasma genitalium. A lot of standard STI panels do NOT include it.
- Try not to spiral. This process can take months, and symptoms can persist even after successful treatment.

My timeline:

Exposure:
I had unprotected sex in November 2025 with someone who told me they had recently tested negative for all stis. Looking back, I wish I had used condoms - esp as this isn’t on a typical STI panel!

Symptoms:
Over the next several weeks I developed:
- burning,
- urinary frequency,
- irritation/discomfort,
- discharge,
- and intermittent pelvic/urethral sensitivity.

The symptoms were weird because they fluctuated. Sometimes they seemed mild or almost gone, then they would intensify again, which made me obsess over whether I still had an infection.

I had FOUR medical visits before diagnosis:

1. January 2026 — sexual health clinic
   Did a full STI panel. Everything negative. BUT it was not a NAAT test for Mgen.

2. January 2026 — PCP follow-up
   Tested positive for a yeast infection, which confused the picture because I almost never get them.

3. February 2026 — annual Pap/discussion
   Still having discomfort but no diagnosis yet.

4. March 2026 — follow-up after abnormal Pap + persistent symptoms
   Finally got a NAAT/PCR panel for Mycoplasma genitalium. Positive.

Treatment:
- 7 days doxycycline
- followed by 7 days moxifloxacin

Between November and March, I started seeing someone new before I knew I had Mgen. He was honestly an absolute saint about the entire situation. He was patient, calm, understanding, got tested immediately, and ultimately tested positive as well. I am almost certain I transmitted it to him, which was emotionally really difficult.

We were extremely conservative afterward:
- waited 4 weeks before test of cure,
- avoided sex during treatment,
- only had very limited protected sex afterward.

Test of cure:
Negative.

Honestly, huge emotional relief. I had convinced myself I had a super resistant untreatable strain because I still had symptoms after treatment.

I STILL have some lingering urinary frequency/sensitivity even with a negative NAAT test of cure, and I’ve learned that post-infectious irritation/anxiety/pelvic floor tension can absolutely linger.

So if you’re deep in the Reddit doom-scroll phase:
- advocate for the correct testing,
- complete treatment carefully,
- treat partners,
- wait appropriately for test of cure,
- and know that lingering sensations do not automatically mean treatment failure.

In octobre novembre 2025 i had non protected homework and after 3 4 weeks i started to feel burnings and white discharge

Went for a test and all negative except Mgen did 4 days of azithromycine no succes symptoms returned .

Then i had 7 days of moxifloxacin but i did 12 days because i hed 5 pils left in the box

Whent for cure test and stil positiv but without symptoms like before. Then my doctor gave me 15 days of doxycycline witch i dident take because i know it will not cure it .

Went for another test 3 weeks later still positiv but macrolides couldent be tested because bacteria was not enough to do the microlides test

Then another test witch is positiv and lab recomandes 7 days of moxifloxacin ....went back to doctor and he dident give me more moxifloxacin but sended me to infectiolog

I had mycoplasma and chlamydia at the same time.

I started doxycycline, but (yeah it was stupid, mental health problems etc) i forgot to keep taking it when symptoms stopped.

So both came back stronger, and the pain (uretha inflammation) was extreme. I got perscribed with azicin (500mg). Took it for 6 days (1000 mg during the 1st day and 500mg a day later). It cured chlamydia, not mycoplasma. Symptoms didin't stop or weaken, constant itching and extreme pain while urinating. I got perscribed with moloxin, nothing again, results still positive.

Then, i got perscribed with doxicicline again.

This time, i finished the whole (14 day treatment). The symptoms did go away after 5 days since starting the treatment, however 4 days after finishing it, the pain came back. I went to a wenerologist, he said that he doesn't see any inflammation in the uretha, but i felt it (pain while urinating and swelling). I got perscribed with another antibiotic but i also got told, that if symptoms won't stop after 3/4 days. I have to get hospitalized.

Yesterday was the 3rd day, it was getting better. Today, the soreness and pain while urinating is back once again.

What do you think it might be?

I masturbated 2-3 times during treatment after symptoms stopped, tho it was very light and i alwaysed washed myself carefully after. There were no sexual contacts.

Hi all, I (25 M) asymptomatically have mycoplasma genitalium. I know I have it because my GF tested positive->was treated->we had sex-> she tested positive again. So, I finally went to urgent care and let them know that I need to be treated. They prescribed me Doxy (1 100MG capsule twice a day for 1 week) and Moxi (1 400MG table every day for 1 week). She took Doxy and let me know to avoid the sun but other than that I'm not really worried. But, after researching Moxifloxacin, I'm really afraid. I've already read all of the reddit horror stories, and I'm especially scared because I already have achilles tendonitis and apparently a side effect is your tendons flaring up/being damaged. (I'm not 100% sure I just read it online) In all honesty, the multi-page essay of warnings/side effects was scary enough. Is it 100% necessary that I take both the Doxy and Moxy? Or will I be treated with only Doxy? I'm a generally healthy individual, but my job can be pretty taxing/stressful and I'm worried that I'm not in the mental shape to take Moxi.

I tested positive for MGEN, and my urologist prescribed me Azithromycin: two 500mg pills on Day 1, and one 500mg pill on Day 2. I took the first two pills on an empty stomach, and after approximately three hours, I had diarrhea. On Day 2, I had no problems with the last pill. My question is: Will the diarrhea on the first day have any effect on the medication?

TLDR: male in NYC, diagnosed and symptomatic; IBS and past c.diff; struggling with decision between doxy/azithromycin regimen vs. doxy/moxi.

Please know I read the pinned post and did a search. Have some support needs/questions. Will try to be brief.

MSM here in NYC. Recently had mild urethral symptoms and a positive Mgen urine test. IBS and past c.diff 5 years ago, took me like 18 months to have regular bowel habits. Resistance testing is unavailable to me currently. Currently taking the 7-day doxy course. Had one doctor recommend moxi as the second course based on my being in a large city. Had another suggest I try the doxy/azithromycin route first. I am torn and appreciate anyone with some insights or related experiences. Thank you!

I am from India, 36m, m gen postive, m gen has progressed to prostate and causing prostatitis and now it is even more difficult to eradicate.

Treatments I have taken:

1. 14 days of doxy 100mg bd after that 21 days of moxy 400mg od - completed this - still m gen positive

2. 7 days of doxy 100mg bd after that minocycline 100mg bd + metronidazole 400 mg bd - this is ongoing treatment - currently I am on 3rd day of doxy and after completing 7 days I will move to mino + metro

I am afraid that if this 2nd treatment will also fail then I have no other options left in india, the only option I can think of is getting sitafloxacin from thailand

But I have no idea where or which doctor can recommend me this and whether I need to get tested first in Thailand before a doctor can recommend me sitafloxacin

Or maybe I can get it directly from some medical store but then will it be a problem for me at thailand or indian airports carrying medicines from another country which is not available in India.

I’ve had Mycoplasma genitalium for a few months now. First, my doctor prescribed me Azithromycin. I took it, but my symptoms didn’t go away. Then he prescribed a combination of Azithromycin and Doxycycline. I first took Doxycycline and then Azithromycin, but my symptoms still didn’t go away.

Now my doctor has prescribed Moxifloxacin 400 mg. I’m honestly a bit scared to take it, so I wanted to ask if I should take it or rather avoid it because I’m really worried about the possible side effects. Are there maybe any better alternatives?

Hi all, I've recently recovered from Mgen so I'd like to come out and share my story with others.

I, M18 was diagnosed with Mgen in late March of this year, prior to this in February I had done the slightly stupid thing of unprotected sex - as you do.. Without me and my partner testing prior to this despite this.
I received clear discharge for days on end and took this as cowpers fluid (basically just pre cum or what not) and didn't think anything of it, until other symptoms such as pain in urination began to appear and it scared me.
I messaged my partner about what was going on and you can imagine how she reacted, I got the cheating card thrown at me and that there was no way I could've got it from her.
However after sometime apart to ourselves for an evening we sat down and spoke about it, to this day I'm positive I got it from her as even before hand I had no symptoms at all, but ill never know.
I was diagnosed with NSU (Non Specific Urethritis) and I was tested for everything - HIV, Syphillis, Gonorrhea, the whole lot, to which everything came back as negative.

Safe to say the doxycycline I was given for a week didn't work and my symptoms worsened, my discharge became more frequent and embarrassing to my own judgement and I wanted to open up but I felt like I couldn't, I went back in late March and was specifically tested for Mycoplasma Gentalium and was prescribed Azithromycin.. Later that week I was in a class and I got a call - I was positive with Mgen. At this time my symptoms were mostly some pain in urinating, yellowy and mucus like discharge which did have an odd smell to it but I felt terrible.

I felt pretty stupid and hopeless and I spiralled a bit that same day, and told my partner immediately. We sat down again and she was paranoid I had cheated, I know for a fact I didn't and we assessed the situation together as she felt unsure but was happy we were honest and open with eachother.
I acted immediately on the diagnosis and got my Moxifloxacin immediately the same day and started, there were ups and down with the Moxi, I was tired and fatigued and I was extremely bloated all the time and became somewhat unmotivated to do anything, but needless to say my symptoms completely ceased afterwards I finished my Moxi. My partner also tested soon afterwards and her results came back as positive which didn't surprise me.

In late April I encountered residual symptoms and it felt like my world had gone to shit again, I went for my TOC and anxiously waited for a response, and I got a ping a week later to tell me I was finally negative for MGEN.
I've been MGen free (unknowingly until recently) for about a month or so now and I have advice for some people.

It's hard not to spiral, and i understand things like this can be extremely daunting, it's important to keep focused on your day to day routine and keep yourself positive despite what's going on.
If you have a partner!! Please communicate and reason with eachother and share your feelings and thoughts for the love of god!! Me and my partner have now been together for the last 9 months and were extremely happy we've been able to overcome this together and we feel like we love eachother more for it, everyone can think differently however I understand.
But please openly speak to your partner, be honest with them and keep them updated - your health and their health is just as important!

Last year I (F28) had chlamydia in august and PID in September after a month. I got better with PID meds but pelvic pain came back after 1.5 months in December. I have been suffering from pelvic pain since. Its been 5 months now. I have pelvic, abdominal, vaginal pain. Feels like burning at times but no itching or visible sores.

Now for the last one month, I have been having eye pain, blurry vision, light sensitivity. I saw an optometrist and she prescribed an eye drop which isn’t helping. She says i have inflammation in both of my eyes.

My chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, hepatitis came negative many times with urine and swabs both. I also did get tested for ureaplasma and mycoplasma using urine and swab both but I was in between antibiotics like vancomycin, clindamycin, amoxicillin, septra ds, metronidazole. The last time i took doxycycline was 6 months ago.

I have done EVVY, JUNO tests as well. Since i am in canada they dont test for M.Gen. But they seemed to do everything else. I also got tested at sexual health clinics but nothing shows up. I am really worried as i feel like something is severely wrong with me thats not showing up

P.s: i haven’t been sexually active since my chlamydia infection

Hey all. I found this page almost 2 years ago when I had to battle this infection and I’m not going to lie, this page scared me so much when I came across the word “Moxifloxacin”.

As someone with bad health anxiety, long story short, I was going to try whatever it took to not take Moxi. Prior to knowing I had Mgen, I had taken azithromycin for another reason and reading about resistance I was convinced my choice of treatment of doxycycline and azithromycin wouldn’t work as I had taken azithromycin and then I tested positive 2 months later when I did a routine test and no I was not infected after I took that azithromycin as I was celibate at that point.

I went through my treatment plan fearing it didn’t work because so many people on this sub says it’s resistant to azi and knowing I took azi and it clearly didn’t wipe it out, I started to spiral.

I avoided doing a test of cure for 6 weeks but finally got the courage and it was negative. I was feeling pretty good and then a few days later I started feeling itching and irritation down there. I then started to doubt that my result was accurate. I started reading treatment failures on this sub as well.

Long story short, I was convinced I had Mgen and the treatment failed and I avoided doing another test for fear of being positive because I couldn’t handle that given what was going on in my life at the time.

I was like could this be residuals? Could it be BV? So I addressed all that and I guess I did have BV after all those antibiotics but I still felt symptoms. For a whole year.

I was tormenting myself by thinking I had it and i was like I can’t keep living like this. It took some time but with research and reading people’s experiences, I became comfortable with the idea of having to take Moxi because I rather take that and risk whatever than live like this.

I got the courage and did other tests and they all came back negative. Strangely enough, when I accepted the fact I might have to take Moxi and was at peace with it, my symptoms actually died down pretty quickly.

So I just wanted to share my story for those spiraling like I was

1. I know some people took it and it failed but azithromycin can definitely still work for some even if you suspect there might be some resistance.
2. residuals are amplified by stress! If you have to take 2 or more pcr tests for your peace of mind, just do it and not wait a whole year like me and live in torment. They will fade away in time.

For all those fighting this infection, you will get through this!

I was diagnosed with Mgen, but my urologist only gave me 1,500mg of Azithromycin (no Doxycycline). Because of this, I went to a different doctor who wants to run a Macrolide resistance test first and put me on 7 days course of Doxycycline.
The problem is that i finished the Azithromycin from the first doctor on May 5th and this new doctor wants the urine sample tomorrow, May 13th.
Is 8 days after the last pill long enough to get an accurate result of the resistance? I’m worried the medicine is still too active in my system and will cause a false negative or mess up the resistance test. Should I wait longer? I just want to start taking Doxycycline as soon as possible and i don‘t want to wait 3 weeks..

I tested positive for Mycoplasma genitalium recently and I’m really anxious that it didn’t go away. I’ve been celibate since January.

Initially I was prescribed doxycycline, but after taking one dose I got violently sick and threw up, so my doctor switched me to azithromycin once a day for 4 days. I finished the treatment weeks ago, but I still feel like I’m having symptoms.

My symptoms tend to flare after my period. My period just ended yesterday and now I’m having thick clumpy discharge, itching, and irritation again. Last month I actually tested negative for yeast, which is why I’m confused.

I’ve read a lot about azithromycin resistance with Mycoplasma and now I’m spiraling thinking the treatment failed. I’m getting retested Friday, but I wanted to know if anyone else had lingering symptoms after treatment or experienced post-period flares even after antibiotics.

Hello yesterday i went to doctors for treatment for mycoplasma hominis and ureaplasma parvum after dealing with a battle for a month. A week ago i got tested it came back negative for everything but i still been experiencing major symptoms went to doctors and got prescribed a week azinthro and a week Moxifloxaxine and i would like directions on how to take. cause last treatment i took 1g azinthro and started doxycycline same day and i hear that isnt right. Should i wait a day between taking azinthro and moxi?

My doctor (who is sti specialist) said that they don't run tests for Mgen or refuse to treat it if there is no symptoms or just mild symptoms. They claim that there is some chance that its can go away on its own. They claim that Mgen way less harmfull than chlamydia trachomatis.

Not gonna lie it sounds kinda odd to me.
