local pekins (they’re dumped but they get spoiled here)
these guys have been here awhile and seem to rule the park pond (constantly attacking the mallards, mottled, and muscovies). theyre constantly fed by humans here however idk how good at foraging they are. they seem very happy here so im wondering if its best to just leave them here ?
One of my hens looks like she may fly out of my yard.
As the title says, I have a 5 month old Muscovy trio, and one of our girls (Bekirkawitz) has briefly left the yard a few times recently. She perched on the neighbors roof and fence. I am concerned she will leave and not know how to get back. What should I do?
I do have an aviary I can keep them in short term, but long term I would prefer they be able to roam my sizable yard. I give them daily salad and fresh solider fly larva (our Guinea pigs produce them) and age appropriate pellets. They have multiple baby pools to swim in. Is my only option to clip their wings or should I get a bigger aviary?
muscovy - other duck hybrid question
I like hybrid ducks and read once that a muscovy x mallard derivated breed can be fertile, if the muscovy was the mother and the hybrid is female. Reduced ferility, but fertility.
Has anybody here real life experience with this combination? Because i found it in just a single paper and since most others focus on muscovy dads for meat production hybrids.
What is this "head-bobbing" and "herding" behavior in males?
I see this all the time. The males will suddenly begin to bob their heads and hiss, sometimes while almost herding the females or each other to a certain area. I'm assuming it's a normal dominance behavior, but why?
Help me identify my ducks gender
Hello, i have a muscovy duck thats aprox. 9 months old now, ive had her since the day her egg was laid (parents didnt care for the egg so i had it in an incubator), this whole time ive had this duck, i thought its a female, but remembering how the dad had significantly langer red "nose" than the females (ive had 3 females and 1 male, but dont have them anymore), but their "noses" were also quite big, so i cant tell the gender of my duck, is there anyone who could help me identify? Im including the most recent pics i have (all previous pictures are over 2 months old so the red area on the face was only around the eyes compared to now)
