The presidential ( VVIP ) train

The VVIP train for India runs for very special important people as in president and for prime minister etc. This video is take on June 2021 when former president travelled to his native place ( kanpur ) on train from safdarjung . This train usually has a pilot train ahead of them ( for clearing route and safety measures running 15-20 mins ahead ) and a back up train behind them in case of emergency. Livery almost resembles maharaja express except that this is a different train exclusively for VVIP people with "India " and " Bharat" mentioned on it.

If you could add ONE station in Mumbai… where would it be?

Every Mumbaikar has thought this at least once during a packed commute.

That one stretch where trains feel too crowded…
That awkward gap between two stations…
That place where one extra stop could save thousands of daily minutes.

Imagine if there was a station between:

  • Bandra & Khar
  • Dadar & Matunga
  • Andheri & Jogeshwari

Would it reduce crowding?
Improve connectivity?
Make your daily travel easier?

Or maybe you have a completely different location in mind 👀

Welcome to MumbaiLocalTrains 🚆 - Share Your Story, Share The Ride

Namaste Mumbaikars! 🙏

I’ve started this community for everything about Mumbai’s lifeline - the local trains. From 7am rush hour chaos to the quiet 1am rides home, from vendors selling chai to that one aunty who always saves you a seat.

This is a space for:

- Daily commute stories - the funny, frustrating, wholesome, unforgettable ones

- News & updates - delays, new timetables, infrastructure changes, safety notices

- Tips & hacks - best coaches, shortcuts at CST/Churchgate/Dadar, monsoon hacks

- Photos & memories - that sunset from the door, the crowded platform, the street food outside the station

- Suggestions - what we wish WR/CR would improve

I’ll start: My first memory is hanging onto the door at 8:30am with one foot outside, thinking “if I miss this, I’m late by an hour” 😅 What’s yours?

Drop your story in the comments. Keep it respectful, keep it real, and remember - we’ve all been that person sprinting for the closing door at some point.

Jai Maharashtra! 💙

Mumbai Local Train Guide for First-Timers (2026) – Routes, Fares, Peak Hours, Fast vs Slow & Survival Tips

Mumbai locals are the cheapest and fastest way to get around, but they can feel intimidating if it's your first time. Here's a clear breakdown of the essentials to help you navigate without stress.

Mumbai's Local Train Network Basics
The city has three main lines:

  • Western Line: Starts at Churchgate → Mumbai Central → Dadar → Bandra → Andheri → Borivali → Virar (and beyond to Palghar). Great for western suburbs.
  • Central Line: CSMT (CST) → Dadar → Kurla → Thane → Kalyan (and further to Asangaon/Karjat).
  • Harbour Line: CSMT → Wadala → Kurla → Vashi → Nerul → Panvel.

Key interchange points: Dadar, Kurla, Thane, Wadala, Bandra.
There are also connecting routes like Thane-Vasai-Panvel and Panvel-Andheri via Wadala.

Fast vs Slow Trains

  • Slow trains: Stop at almost every station. Best for beginners or short distances.
  • Fast trains: Skip smaller stations (e.g., Western fast may go straight till Borivali). Much quicker for longer trips. Look for boards/announcements: “F” for fast, “S” for slow. Platforms are usually dedicated (1-2 for slow, 3-4 for fast at many stations). Always double-check the destination and type before boarding.

Fares (Non-AC & AC)

  • Non-AC (general): ₹5 for short hops up to around ₹30 for longer distances.
  • AC coaches: ₹35 to ₹225 depending on distance. No extra fare for fast trains. Use the UTS app or counters for tickets. Many people recommend the Yatri or Mindicator app for real-time schedules, platforms, fares, and interchanges.

Peak Hours (The Real Rush)

  • Morning: 7–9:30 AM (heavy inward rush towards South Mumbai).
  • Evening: 6–8:30 PM (heavy outward rush to suburbs). Trains get extremely crowded during these times. Tip: Travel in the opposite direction if possible, or avoid peaks altogether if you have luggage, kids, or are elderly. Midday and late evening are much more comfortable.

Practical Tips for Newcomers

  • Use the apps: Yatri / M-indicator — it’s a lifesaver for everything (timings, platforms, routes).
  • For very short distances (5-6 km), a metered auto or taxi is often easier and less stressful.
  • From long-distance stations (CSMT, Mumbai Central, Dadar, Kurla, Bandra), locals are accessible, sometimes with a short walk or share-auto.
  • AC locals run roughly every 30 minutes on both slow and fast services.
  • General etiquette: Move quickly, watch your belongings, and be prepared for crowds.

If you're new here, start with off-peak hours to get comfortable. Locals run from early morning (~4 AM) till late night (~1 AM) with high frequency outside peaks.
