Taking a radio through TSA, what's your experience?

There may come up a use case where some of my people may need to take a radio with them while traveling. A radio tech I know at another organization made a comment once about traveling with two radios and that being a bit of a hassle with TSA. So for those of you who travel and carry a radio in addition to one or more cell phones (personal and work cells) and maybe a laptop too. Any issues going through TSA?

Is it encryption? Is it the radio?

Our organization has utilized UHF DMR for a number of years. Recently we opted to add encryption (low level ADP) onto all of our talkgroups. We successfully programmed every radio with the same codeplug, but have started noticing issues. Many individuals say that they try to answer someone when they called them but they cannot hear them. Other individuals state that no one can hear them when they call others. Each time they are getting a grant from the repeater.

These are Motorola XPR7550e radios with a single site.

Thanks in advance.

DM4601e problem as control station

Hi, I have a DM4601e as a control station and I use software for GPS tracking. I have noticed that sometimes (very often) my radio disconnects from my PC. I have checked the windows energy saver but nothing. I have noticed that if I ping the radio at all times (ping -t 192.168.11.1) the radio doesn't disconnect at all, but I can't get the GPS data on the software. What can it be?

Replace business repeater

A friend of mine runs a landscaping company and their Vertex Standard VXR-7000u repeater died. Any suggestions on a replacement? It looks like Motorola has a VXR-7000 but the local dealer won’t return phone calls.

Hey, I don’t know if this is truly the best subreddit to post this in, but it seemed the most related to my question.

My job utilizes digital and analog (both simultaneously) Motorola radios that function with an earpiece with separate microphone and audio jacks. They’re switching over to Zello, which is an app for the phone that has push to talk functionality. Zello can support buttons on earpieces that are connected via wire to the phone.

I’ve seen someone discuss that the way cell phones and two way radios run buttons/microphones are not the same, and that it can actually short the connection through ground to the button and microphone when connected to a phone with typical adaptors. Is there a way or an adaptor that would allow me to use the existing earpiece I have, while connecting it over aux (and then from aux to lightning) to a phone? And is there a way that preserves the push to talk function of the button that’s already a part of the earpiece?

In case there are differences between headsets, the ones we use are also Motorola. I’m attaching a photo of the radios we have and the earpiece.

DP4801

Bonjour,

Merci

Hello, I just received a DP4801e/XPR7550e.

It has the old configuration, and I would like to reset it to factory settings (without losing the firmware). Can you help me?

This thread from nine months ago discusses using IONs as cell phones but didn't definitively answer the question.

https://www.reddit.com/r/MotorolaSolutions/s/zajkinepF9

I have a Capacity Plus system with several IONs. I'm looking into activating WAVE PTX for my ION users. The MSI PTX Brochures say that this eliminates the need to carry multiple devices. My ION users also have company-supplied cell phones. The IONs were purchased in Q3 2024.

Can I make the case that the IONs can replace their agency-issued cell phones because the IONs do everything their cell phones do in addition to LMR and WAVE?

With budget contraints I need to build and deploy multiple uhf fixed reding stations to register timestamps when an event occurs, for multiple boxes, 500 at same time.
So instead of ideally calling an integrator and buying up to date equipment, I must buy used Impinj speedway ipj r1000 readers or similar (motorola (not zebra) FX7500 ). Old, mostly deprecated but still functional. Off course they cannot manage Impinj Connect or modern software due to licensing/vendor limitations.

Truth is that my job is to make it work. There is a python package to manage LLRP `sllurp`.

Question: does any of you guys have experience with that kind of hardware, I must read reader payload, and send it to a cloud rest api endpoint, via MQTT where it can be filtered and stored. As afar as I know the readers are closed, so a machine must be connected to each one, ideally a Linux machine, to read LLRP, process, and send.
What I'm not sure is about the feasability if extracting data wirh python code. Any ideas, opinions, recommendations, criticisms, whatever...

Hey guys I’m pretty far into interview process and it just occurred to me that maybe they test for marijuana lol. I did some googling and see a fair amount of people saying they still do. Can anyone who’s been onboarded recently tell me if this is still the case? And if they do test and see a positive test, is that absolutely grounds for rescinding offer? It is a very corporate supply chain role for what it’s worth (I believe in that western suburban campus, maybe west loop, i have no idea tbh)

Hi,

I have 11 DP4801e radios and a control statin (DM4601e). I tried setup GNSS for get (with the software on the PC connected to the control station) the GPS feed of all the radios. Initially it worked but I always got Channel Busy. I then tried modifying some values. I switched from Location Data Delivery Mode from Follow Data Call Confirmed to Unconfirmed and enabled CSBK data. The problem is now that I can't get the GPS very often, but occasionally, I needed to set the GPS timer on the software from 120 sec to 15 sec (and still very often I don't get the GPS feed back. What Can I do? Somethimes when i force the GPS request manually it works, but somethime it doesn't. I didn't try re setting the CSBK data to off and the Location Data Delivery because if I do this I get channel busy
