I am currently reading „Montessori from the Start” because I wanted to learn more about how to apply the philosophy specifically to the younger age group (my training focused mainly on 3-6 years), yet I am a bit disappointed with the lack of suggestions specifically for the age between 6-15 months.

I am currently on the chapter of „practical life” and it jumps straight to 15 month olds and over. I assume the focus on this is because before that age, babies focus a lot on movement and mastering crawling and walking specifically, however that’s not the only area they develop.

I struggle coming up with my own ideas for my 7 month old. I do often offer her safe objects from around the house to explore which is recommended in the book. Otherwise, there was only one activity with a ball and cube mentioned for ages 6-8 months but I am curious about any others. Are there going to be any more mentioned later in the book? Apart from this book, do you have any specific ideas on how to prepare the environment for this younger stage?

Hi everyone!

I'm a mum of two little ones (ages 1 and 4) and I've been working on a children's house bed design that I originally made for my own daughter — because I couldn't find anything on the market that felt right. Most options were either too busy and overstimulating, or so minimal they felt cold and uninspiring for a child's room. And the more affordable options simply didn't meet my expectations when it came to quality and stability — I wanted something genuinely robust, built to last, and just as solid after years of daily use as it is on day one.

What I wanted was something in between: calm and simple, but still warm and genuinely playful — and made from high-quality solid wood that can withstand the wear and tear that comes with kids.

The result is the bed in the photo — a Montessori-style floor house bed in solid natural wood that my daughter Leila uses every day. The low height means she can get in and out completely independently, and the side frame gives security without making it feel enclosed or cage-like.

Before I start a small production run, I'd love honest feedback from parents:

👉 What do you think of the design?

👉 What would you change or improve?

👉 What size would work best for your child — 90×200 cm (single) or 140×200 cm (fits a parent too)?

All feedback welcome — critical opinions especially appreciated! 🙏

Is there somewhere I can buy a floor bed frame and mattress together? I can't find it anywhere and it's overwhelming looking at all the mattress options. I don't know what kind is okay for floor beds. If you can't buy it together then does anyone have any recommendations for a matching set?

I'm looking for a double size bed so I can sleep with him if I need but a twin would do too. It's for my toddler who's almost 2
