Great performance at the Blue Gate last night
We went to the Maggie Rose/Molly Tuttle show at night. Having never heard of Ms. Rose, I assumed she was an opening act. That was not the case and we had to endure a 65 minute set of overly loud, forgettable songs by what I would describe as a generic rock band with an attractive female singer. Apologies to the Maggie Rose fans but she's just not my cup of tea. It was loud even with earplugs.
OTOH, Ms. Tuttle was a breath of fresh air. I knew she was a guitar monster from her YouTube videos but she's an excellent singer too and the 3-part female harmonies were heavenly. Her set made up for having to sit through the opener. Her original songs were very enjoyable and we got none of the shrieking we got from Ms. Rose.
The Blue Gate in Shipshewanna, Indiana is a world class 1500 seat venue that features mostly tribute bands and up-and-coming or past-their-prime country acts that can't fill an arena. Occasionally they'll get a big name act like Alison Krauss or Lyle Lovett. There's a performance almost every night so if you're within an hour and see some you like, it's worth the trip.
