I'm afraid I bought this box second hand because I thought it was cool, and it didn't have the pen inside, so I don't know much about what the actual pen/set is like. I just have the wooden box.

edit: souvenir, toy, novelty. I'm not saying the box is literally from the Romanov era or belonged to a tsar. I just thought it was cool, with the two headed eagle and what not.

Sometimes it seems like Mirror Mirror is the only Australian/NZ kids show from that general era not appearing SOMEWHERE for official streaming 😢

All the other sci-fi(ish) shows from around that general era seem to be available for the curious viewer.

The Tribe and The Girl From Tomorrow are both on Tubi, and Sky Trackers (the teen show Petra Yared was on the year before Mirror Mirror) and large portions of Genie from Down Under and Round The Twist all have been uploaded to YouTube by the actual copyright holders in high quality.

But Mirror Mirror has never popped up (legally) anywhere. Which is such a shame. I wonder if it's a problem with copyright because it was initially broadcast to so many different countries maybe there's a lot of legal tape around which streaming service could make it available if they wanted (I remember hearing they had trouble getting the rights cleared up for the DVD release in 2009, but that could be just a rumour). Or maybe it's because the Gibson Group is retired?

It would just be so nice to see both seasons (if possible) pop up in good quality on YouTube or Tubi or Pluto. Especially since I don't think anyone has seen season 2 in reasonable quality (as in that's not literally a vcr rip from 1998) for more than 20 years.

And even if they could only secure the rights to season 1, it would be wonderful if more people had the chance to watch the 20 best half hours of TV ever...

So many would be fans don't know what they're missing!

Thoughts?

Is that a picture of Alexandra behind him?

I always assumed it must be. Certainly it looks like her. Wondering if anyone else caught that, too, and if they know what picture it is and when IRL it was taken.

Sometimes I like to imagine Jennifer Laam's Romanov Sisters book and Mirror Mirror (1995) take place in the same universe

Because then while the sisters surviving in England in The Romanov Heiress THINK their brother is dead, he's really just chilling in New Zealand wrongly assuming he's the only one in the family who got rescued by somebody British.

I know the fictional timeline probably doesn't hold up at all under scrutiny, but it's still a nice thing to imagine, all five escaping.

I also like thinking that, eventually, in this hypothetical crossover, Alexei/Nicholas sees the old movies Anastasia produced after the events of The Romanov Impostor and immediately recognizes his sister's handiwork.

I'm a sucker for a happy ending even if it makes zero sense. 😁
