Leased a Mercedes EQB300… now stuck paying $800/month for a car they admit they can’t fix

I’m honestly at a loss and would really appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with something like this.

In December 2023, I leased a brand new Mercedes EQB300. Everything seemed fine at first, but by September 2024 the car started having serious issues — the instrument cluster (speedometer/navigation) would randomly go completely black while I was driving.

Not glitchy… completely black.

In November 2024, I got a “Coolant Too Hot – Stop Vehicle” warning related to the high-voltage system.

Since then, it’s been a nightmare:

  • Multiple service visits
  • Repeated “no issue found” responses
  • Full dashboard removal to replace wiring
  • Replacement of major components
  • Software resets and updates

And the issue STILL happens.

In March 2026, I was told there’s basically no fix yet and that one might come in a future software update.

Then in April, I spent 3 hours at the dealership trying to resolve this. We even got to the point where:

  • A replacement car deal was discussed
  • I called my insurance to add the new vehicle
  • They updated my Mercedes app

…and then suddenly they came back and said they couldn’t cancel my lease.

On top of that, every time I had a loaner, I was told I had to drop everything and return it immediately or I’d be charged ~$150/day.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services sent me a formal letter stating that I am legally required to continue making my ~$800/month payments under any circumstance, including if the vehicle is defective, unsafe, or even destroyed.

The letter specifically references the lease agreement and states that payments must continue “even if the vehicle is stolen, destroyed, or does not satisfactorily perform,” and that any issues must be taken up with the manufacturer.

So now I’m stuck in this loop:

  • Dealer → “talk to manufacturer”
  • Manufacturer → slow/no resolution
  • Finance → “keep paying no matter what”

To make things worse:

  • The car has a high-voltage battery recall
  • I can’t charge it safely at home
  • I’ve read charging restrictions in some places
  • I have a young daughter who depends on this car daily

I feel like I’m being forced to drive an unsafe vehicle while paying full price for it.

Mercedes Agreed to Buyback My EQB

Hi everyone, I just wanted to share some data points with this sub about my recall experience as it's been so helpful in deciding how to handle my EQB situation.

For background, I leased a 2023 EQB 350+ 4matic in Nov 2023, 36/12. California. I got the first recall notice in Nov 2025 as I was on my first-ever EV road trip, needing every single mile of battery range. I was lucky to find a dealership to do the software update the next day. I found out about the second battery recall here in this sub. As I live in a city and always park next to other cars and structures, it was a serious concern to me.

The dealer called me in Feb 2026 and offered to get me into another Mercedes immediately, even though my lease wasn't up for another 9 months, no mention of the recall. I had my eye on the 2027 GLC though, so the subject was dropped.

Thanks to people sharing their experiences on this sub, I hired a lemon law attorney (again, CA protections) and the demand letter went out in March 2026. The claim was based on two issues: capping the battery at 80% reduced the car's advertised utility, then the safety risks from the battery. I had to submit my lease agreement, registration papers, mileage, etc. About a week later, MB asked for all service and maintenance records, which I sent in. On the evening of the last day of the 30-day deadline, they agreed to buy my car back.

MB will essentially refund the down payment + all payments made. They subtract a percentage based on the car's mileage when the problems first occurred, which is absolutely fair considering I got two years of use. No refund for registration payments for leases. Next step is waiting to return the car to Mercedes once we settle on a buyback price.

I'm still a little in disbelief that this has happened. I really loved my car, aside from things like the risk of catching on fire, lol. Very grateful to live in a state with such strong lemon law protection.

2023 EQS – Dealer blaming “impact damage” for coolant pump failure… but no-start was 12V battery? Need advice

Hey everyone, looking for some advice here because this feels like a gray area and I’m not sure if I’m being handled fairly.

I have a 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQS with ~43k miles. I’m located in Dallas, TX (bought the car from California, no lemon law claim or anything like that).

Recently, the car had a no-start condition, so I had it towed to the dealership.

What the technician found:

They said the 12V battery was the cause of the no-start

During inspection, they also found:

High-voltage coolant pump fault codes

The pump bracket is bent

Some damage to the pump and hose

They’re calling it “external impact damage”

Now the dealership is:

Refusing warranty coverage on the pump repair (~$1,800)

Saying it’s due to impact

And telling me they need to fix the pump before they can continue diagnosis / get the car fully operational

Where I’m confused:

If the 12V battery caused the no-start, then how is the pump being treated as the root issue?

I reviewed the photos, and there are some minor scuffs underneath, but nothing that looks like a major hit

The advisor said the pump “could have been damaged for a while,” which doesn’t make sense to me because:

I never got any warnings before this

It failed all at once

My questions:

Does a high-voltage coolant pump failure normally prevent the EQS from powering on entirely, or just restrict driving?

Would you expect gradual warnings if the pump was damaged, or can it just suddenly fail like this?

Has anyone seen pump/bracket damage like this from minor road contact?

Is this something Mercedes typically denies outright, or is goodwill coverage common in situations like this?

My concern:

Even if there was minor contact underneath, it feels like a critical component on a 2023 vehicle shouldn’t fail from that level of exposure. This doesn’t feel like a major impact situation.

What I’m trying to decide:

Do I push harder for goodwill coverage

Get a second opinion

Or just pay and move on

Would really appreciate any insight, especially from techs or anyone who’s dealt with EQS / EV cooling system issues.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Thoughts on 2027 GLB with EQ?

My wife and I have been looking at the few 3-row EV SUVs here in the US for a while and have narrowed down Mercedes EQB as one of the options. However, with all things happening with the previous gen EQB, my wife and I are uncomfortable for going with the upcoming launch of 2027 GLB with EQ. As a first time potential owner of a Mercedes, would you recommend one way or the other?
